- ✉️ Briefing:
Separated by the Colorado River, two states face each other: Calonia and Nezonia. The Organization of Western States had attempted, unsuccessfully, for ten years to settle their dispute about the water rights of the river. On May 15 1964 at 1400, the OWS indicated that its forces were withdrawing from the demilitarized zones on both sides of the river. Later on the same day, the new elected progressive national government of Nezonia ordered the "Phoenix" taskforce to cross the river and invade the neighboring state of Calonia. In retaliation, the Calonian "Mojave" taskforce was deployed to seize the Parker and Davis Dams. The two states go to war and they have only one objective: the total elimination of the enemy.
This scenario could be the one of a video game and could even set the scene for a Fallout-like game series, but it's not: it's the "plot" of the military exercise Desert Strike, realized in May 1964. An important training innovation was the creation of an official war cabinet for each "country" to lend realism to the games and introduce a political dimension to the escalation. The simulation involved more than 100,000 soldiers of the US Army and Air Force, while mobilizing more than 900 aircraft and 500 tanks. It was the largest American military exercise since World War II and it costed $54 million. 24 people lost their lives during the maneuvers.
Supported by the power of Irving Force, the video shows the various maneuvers performed during the exercise: river crossing, combined tactics, photo air recon, close air support, air-to-air refueling, and much more! Some of the footage show little known/filmed equipment in the atypical Mojave Desert environment and the whole thing has been carefully enhanced by AI, so I hope you enjoy the video!

Great stuff as always man! Gotta love the silhouette of the 60s US aircraft, like spaceships! 🚀 Speaking of which, have you ever thought about doing a video of the British V bombers or the English electric Lightning?
Thanks for the kind words.
As usual, this can be done but I need good quality sources to use..
@@Sternjaeger I would’ve thought that the British pathé archives would be a good place to start 😃
