    I can’t say that I dislike the split dash idea, but with the “nose” between them and the bars below, I just get the feeling Jacques Cousteau is staring at me 😆!

    Those who have quick quick to comment telling me this is the 2022 bike and not the 2023, ONLY the GT Plus model in the range gets the new single TFT display for 2023, the standard Tracer and the GT retain the split display.

      I've read it and I've apologised, Toad of Visordown seems to now have resorted to misinformation as well as gushing spew on manufacturer sponsored launch reviews. It pains me to think in these days of pre ordering without a test ride or sight of rubber on a showroom floor. How many bikes end up as regrettable purchases finding flaws or quirks glazed over by bought and paid for positive reviewers 😕

    Mine’s a ‘71 plate now with 6,000 trouble free miles. Wouldn’t disagree with anything you say. It’s a very friendly bike. I think the BMW dash is better but the ride and handling are unrivalled at the moment, there’s simply nothing better on the market. This Yamaha looks good. The sports/tourer market faded over the years in favor of adventure bike segment. I'm old enough to recall what I think us the grand daddy of Sports/tourers and that's the late 70's BMW R100RS. A "Gentlemens" highish speed grand tourer. Glad to see the resurgence of this category. The modern motor if this Yamaha surely fits the bill. The dash however,,,well,,,could use some help. 😊 But being a fan of this genre I'm happy to see this bike succeed.

    Great bike apart from its looks. The least attractive of all the bikes using this engine, including the Niken. Better panniers than the last model. Ditto the Niken. Great idea having the exhaust out of the way under the bike. Buell did that first. I have an old Ulysses, and the exhaust is a jacking point. I've come round to quite liking the Tracer's dash, and I hated it at first, so maybe the bike's looks will grow on me.

    I bought one of these new 11 months ago. 5,500 miles later I can say it's a great all round bike. I've done two UK tours and ridden in all weathers. At 1.82m tall I (and many other owners) find the stock screen ruubish. Apart from that my only other issue is that I've ridden it through the winter and despite using ACF50 the finish is pretty poor in places. My five year old Triumph Street Triple looked so much better than this bike does after just one winter. I currently have a claim under the warranty with Yamaha. Unacceptable for a bike costing this much money.

      When I bought my Honda VFR800X Crossrunner, it was slightly more money than the Tracer 900, but the difference between the two in build quality was tremendous. 4 years and 36.000km later, my Honda is still spotless after riding it everyday in Europe in the rain, snow, whatever. I don't get the appeal for the Tracer, it just screams for cheap plastic feeling. I don't know...

    Great review, probably watched 30 of them so far, I'm considering a left over 2022 (they never released a 2023 in Canada), there are some dealers that have them for $13,999 CAD, which seems like a great price for the kit you get (MSRP here was $18,099). My only real worries are the dash, screen and seat comfort...you seems to get along well with seat and screen. Dash I worry less about, although already seems dated for a 2022/2023. Too bad they didn't release a firmware update to get more functionality on the right, but suspect they don;t want to spend another penny on that dash.

      The bikes with the split display have only been in build for a couple of years so it would be pointless modifying the electronics to suit the other display at this point, it’s not something that owners complain about, I like how you can have your own choice of info in large digits on the right, and you notice that in normal use ( rather than on test ride ) you are only glancing at the screen occasionally, in fact the only thing I would change about the display would be to add a fuel range meter, that’s it ( it does have a display for fuel used though, and tells you how many miles you have ridden since the fuel light came on )

The Tracer 9 is 15k here whereas the MT09 is 9 grand. MT10 is also 15k where it used to be cheaper though I can't remember what it was. IF the tourer does not have a shaft drive then it cannot be the best or the perfect tourer. Chain maintenance will always be a pain in the bum. Actually, I'm not even sure if it is that good if you are a commuter and do not have a garage. Doing any maintenance, even dealing with chain is a paaain without a garage, especially if you live in a wet country, like in the UK or Netherlands. Just get a cheap FJR1300, you can lane filter with it with ease. I know, I'm doing it for 2 years now. Or get a Super Tenere. I've had that too for 2 years. Just get a newer Super Ten, 2nd Gen came out in 2013 with a better gearbox which holds the discs without bloody springs that causes annoying vibrations around 3000 RPM. The fix is to get a second gen basket that holds the discs. The upgrade would cost you about $1500. This info is from 2020.

    Given the consistent derision aimed at the Muppet-faced instrument cluster, why would Yamaha keep it on the GT but wisely toss it for the + model? Aesthetically, I dislike the ubiquitous TFT tablet displays but, egad, I certainly don’t want Gonzo the Great staring at me either. And, even if it didn’t freak me out too much, it certainly impacts its residual value and selling it to others who may not be so tolerant.

    9:22 "Cornering lights". I just don't get the point of these, on cars, or bikes. In 40 years of riding all sorts of bikes, I have NEVER been in a situation where I thought "Hmm...what I could really do with here, is some sort of light that comes on, when I go to turn!". And I can honestly say I've never encountered any circumstances (whether driving, or riding), where a "cornering light" would have improved safety. I'd love to see some sort of statistics that show how many accidents would have been prevented, if cornering lights had been in use. They are just yet another silly gimmick, to sell bikes to mugs who don't know any better.

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto  Рік тому +3

      Have you never ridden down a dark country road at night? Turning into a bend where your headlight keeps pointing forward, the cornering light illuminates in the inside of the bend thus showing any potential hazards that might otherwise be unseen. Seems a pretty decent safety feature to me. Here’s an example at 19:00 from an Africa Twin video ua-cam.com/video/lTo1NmTvWEs/v-deo.html

    • @ec9156
