To use the chopping board efficiently, put the thing you're chopping in your offhand, the tool in your main hand, and just hold right click on the chopping board. You'll need this if you want to do anything much with that mod.
Great series so far! I have a couple tips for you: 1. (unless this modpack changes it) cactus do not need water nearby to grow. 2. If your prisoner can't chunkload enough space, or you just don't want to use him, you can go into your inventory, in the top left there is a little button that looks like a map. When you click it, it pulls up a world map (different than the one you've been using) and there should be another button that says "claim chunks." Simply clicking on the chunk will claim it, or with a different keybind (shift-click I believe) you can claim it AND chunkload it. Claiming chunks also make it so creepers can't blow things up.
Have to say I love the winter in this mod, adds to the forest settlement aesthetic and adds to the immersion as well as you need to actually prepare for winter.
You Can Build a Green house over the top of the crop farms., (like Cobblestone/ stone base around the crops, Campfire in a corner of the inside the green house glass on the side on top of the base and the roof add a door on one side to access the green house.) IE. the campfire heat and smoke will keep the green house warm though the winter season Also the Campfire heat a wider area then torches.
Cactus dont need water to grow so you dont have to worry about them having water :) I’d search the water around your house to see if it got a hidden entrance, if not dig your way down and block it up and find the exit from the inside 😂 Worst case scenario it’ll Get a bit of a personal touch 😂
Hey Sjin, to prevent early deaths, you could recruit some mercenary that will fight for your colony for a short amount of time, free of charge or course. Just click the "hire mercenary" button in your townhall GUI.
Another fun video Sjin! Winter can be a pain because not only of the snow, but your crops also grow VERY SLOW in winter. Stock up well so your colonists can survive. Also when using the cutting board, you can put the material in your off-hand and the needed tool in your main hand for max speed processing. No need to swap hotbar slots.
some comments have already suggested solutions to the farms' ice problem, but I usually use a 3 high fencepost with a torch on top to keep everything lit. it also stops the ice from forming like the other suggestions.

The speed colonists level depends on their intellegence stat and the only way to level that is in school or library, which is why you want to unlock those buildings asap, when children are born they go to school til they grow up and wait in the library until a job is opened up for them during this time their intellegence stat levels up, it doesn't matter what their other stats are but when their intellegence stat is high they will level crazy fast compared to those you recruit from the Inn
SJIIIN in the new version of minecraft you can water log a non-full block, basically almost anything that isn't a full cube (like stairs or slabs) can be filled with a water bucket. This should solve your ice problem and also it can make decorations much cooler

Tip for your water sources freezing over: you can place a slab or trapdoor over the water which will prevent it from freezing over, unless the mod makes it freeze over non the less. When a water source is blocked from sky it can't freeze in winter/tundras

Slabs or Trapdoors work, but I recommend Fence Posts so you can place a torch and keep your farm lit at night. Alternatively, you should be able to waterlog slabs or stairs. Just use a water bucket on a slab or stairs and there ya go. A water source block within a block. Due to how in depth the Better Minecraft modpack is with adding little tweaks, this method may not work...

Put oak slabs over the water blocks in your farms. They won't freeze & you won't lose a space to a torch. Edit: Also, the BetterVanillaBuildingV2.52 resource pack makes things a bit prettier but doesn't mess up the vanilla look.
Anybody know the name of the mod that adds the snow effects to things like stairs and slabs? Want to make a colony in a snow biome and that would add SO much to the feel.

I've not used the curse forge launcher, but Multi MC handles things for me. I just download the modpack, the few mods that Sjin has added, and other than the snowing in winter causing graphical glitches, I've not had any issues so far.
The no swimming sign looks suspicious. Go in the water and search the bottom for a way into the other house.

IIRC normal chunk loading doesn't work with minecolonies, and you need an actual player present for them to operate.
Don't forget now, Sjin... Now it's a LEVEL 2 Builder - he can use IRON Tools!

build a calendar and a item frame for the wall to keep track of the seasons.
Half Slab in a a watersource past version 1.13 so you can waterlog blocks to keep it from freezing

You have an Offhand slot. Place the log in your offhand, axe in your normal hand and spam right click to strip the logs fast.

It's the Stay True resource pack. It adds a lot of different flora variance, while staying true to original MC textures.

Minecolonies is a mod, so you can just add it to the Better Minecraft modpack.
