crazy good. i wanna play like him. i listened to (supernatural) Jimi Hendrix one million times but never had the thought i want to play like Jimi. but i listened to Lee for the 1st time today and I wanna play like Lee Ritenour 🙂🙏
Man, you have the number 1 entertainment setup. It is not just the music and your great guitar skills, you also can capture the audience with your aura of happiness and cool style. Congrats to the band, too, for a great performance !
I'm such a big fan of Lee Ritenour, since many years. And this song is one of my favourites, as the whole 'Wes Bound' album is, inspired by Wes Montgomery
The thing about Lee is that he gets the best tone out of his guitars.....and leverages that mellow, full sound from those big, old fashioned jazz hollow body guitars manufactured by Gibson. Guitar tone is almost as critical as fluidity, speed and precision on the neck....so Lee is probably head and shoulders above other smooth jazz axe players.... in that regard. He explains why some musicians and wannabe guitar players will pay a king's ransom to get one of those classic Gibson jazz guitars......just a beautiful sound.
Good evening TO MR. Lee thank you very much As you know in the music industry we lost a great beautiful artist Bobby Caldwell 71 years I loving So I say to you be safe thank you very much I got your autobiography in that put it away thank you very much from your fan I love all the music Damn too many of your concerts love every last one of them thank you
I would play a cassette someone gave me. The first song was “Asa”. I played that poor cassette until it started to fade. It was great driving music. That’s why he’s “Captain Fingers”!! Portrait was the album name.
Here's the thing about Ritenour.....he among smooth jazz guitar players who incorporates a lot of Wes Montgomery octave chords as single note style into the core of his live performances/numbers. So, it can be said he is keeping the musical legacy of Montgomery alive. In addition, he's playing the Montgomery licks on a guitar (Lee's fat old Gibson semi-hollow body) that embellishes the octave chord crisp and clean qualities. Listen to Montgomery recordings and you hear these plodding, muted, anything but clean guitar sound embedded in uninteresting songs/tracks that all sounded identical. I think one can say that Ritenour, above all other alive and kicking jazz guitarists, has elevated the Montgomery technique and blended it in a more upbeat even quasi-funk/rock/jazz motif.
This tune could have been named "Wes-Bound" in honor of the late jazz guitar genius who was credited for putting those octave or harmonic chords that Bumpin features on the musical landscape. Lee, Chuck and other current smooth jazz guitarists all have honored Wes Montgomery with tracks that feature his guitar sound....and this arguably is the best example of Wes sound in Lee's repertoire or catalog. You've got the Wes chords as the melody and also on solo excursions......Anyone still listening to Wes out there?
This man is man of excellence I took note watchin BET jazz back. In the early 90s when I was12. Total. Undeniable Prowess. I. Absolutely think. That if he ain't 1 of the 100 greatest guitar players of all time. According rolling stone i lose all. Confidence or believe. The knowledge. Purported by the publication. He can Wes Montgomery. John mclaughin and all points in betw in our een. Serious flipping powerhouse!!! He is in my opinion an absolute master. And god damn powde r keg of knowledge. There Are tons of really good players in our present time. But a lot of times. Great talent lose track of." The energetic flow " and fully convince themselves that it's all due to their individual leadership and it wasn't event at the helm the steering wheel of everything and yell and everybody do it right because they've so gone off the trail of Truth to their emotional into intelligence and appealing about sensitivity that it's there's a void in the honesty of this person's mind unfortunately but clearly Lee Ritenour really kept it cool this whole time and he did his due diligence in so much as he found a mental balance or meditated in because he's a cool customer taking out all of them, guitar players that you know he's one for the ages
This might be Ritenours best band. Oscar Seaton is so freakin' tight on drums. Listen to his playing behind the keyboard solo. There's always Melvin on Bass and Barnaby Finch is perfect here too.
Agree with you big time. I regrettably don't care for the drumming chops of his son who has been added to his performing band.....I get it in the sense of nepotism, but in terms of keeping up the musical benchmark in quality playing by all players, this has brought down Lee's band quite a few notches. The kid is just not that good. He's had so many interesting, very competent percussionists going as far back as Hillary....and some of these Indonesian/Asian appearances, he had Dave Grusin on keyboards for musical contrast and richness and historical context. Those were the days.....Lee may have wanted to pay homage to the Black jazz guitar guy Wes Montgomery when naming his son, but it might have ended there for his fans.
Melvin is always great and Oscar as well ................. they have a backbone goin' on that would make a freight train take a dirt road just to get a listen
Ritenour spreads the joy in his music, not pain.I've listened to him since 1981. Still love his stuff; why? He expresses hope and joy. 'nuff said.
Yes! I remember his chart hit "Is it you". Thought he was good back then, even better now!

Incredible watching live facial expressions by a talented guitar player surrounded by musicians on fire
I wonder what he's saying up there? lol, as a fellow guitarist, articulating a guitar is no different than speech

Great band at the top of their Game... Lee creates a great friendship mood !
What a great version, Lee Ritenour, seems truly inspired here and the band very tight and funky.
I work in my garden to this song for years. It's the best! Thank you for so many enjoyable moments!;😂

Real musicians yes.
Mr. Lee Ritenour is another distinct musician when it comes to smooth jazz beat...

GREAT musicians, all of 'em!
Top 5 guitarists ever.
Joy and music ...great Lee, great guitar player and composer. Great sounds.
Brilliant Performance of this "A Little Bumpin"--great sound quality.
I think the video and audio are a little out of sync but takes nothing away from the pleasurable listening.

Lee is fantastic...
Barnaby Finch - keyboards
Oscar Seaton - drums
Melvin Davis - bass
Lee channeling that Wes Montgomery guy in his music.....those octave chords....that's what it is all about.
