    Imagine my surprise as I went on vacation with my new boyfriend with the last name Tipton, in 2001, as we started touring this area!!! SO many Tipton graves. We had no idea either, just came to the smokies and Cades cove by chance! I found all this out recently when I did our genealogy. I had stood on that land! Walked in the Tipton barn! The marriage didn't sustain but we made some Tipton descendants, and I'm bringing the Tipton kids to their ancestors home land later this year!!! They're 11, 8, 8. They're gonna love this!!! William fighting billy Tipton is my ex's 5th Great Uncle. Thanks for the great video!! Can't wait to bring the kiddos, I hope March isnt too busy/cold!

      @NCMemoryMakers  7 місяців тому

      Yes, Tipton was a very popular name in the early days of Cades Cove.
      The Tipton place was actually featured in a movie, called "The Dollmaker".
      Glad you enjoyed the video. Hope you have a safe and enjoyable trip with your kids. March can be warm and feeling like Spring, or it can be freezing with snow.
      I'd definitely check the forecast a few days before you come.

    So glad to see this video come up in my recommendations! Love to visit Cades Cove and just subscribed. Isn't it amazing the things you can only learn from people who've lived there and their descendants? Thanks for sharing what Mr Ledbetter shared with you.
    If you've not visited the Cades Cove Museum in Maryville, it is most definitely worth a stop. It is chock full of personal items from Cove residents. I was the only visitor there for most of the time and had the unbelievably good fortune to visit there when the great-great-great grandson of John and Lurena Oliver, Stephen Weber, was volunteering. Got a personal tour of the museum and backstory on many artifacts. It was the most priceless experience I've had on my visits so far.

      Thank you for sharing. Yes, the museum is definitely something we have talked about doing and want to do. It was great to have Mr. Ledbetter accompany us through the Cove, and point out many things we would not have known otherwise.

    Derrick and Shawnie. Thanks for another great video.. you know how much I love Cades Cove. WoW that bear encounter sure was something. I wonder what was up with that white truck. Very rude not to pull off and to hold up traffic.

      It's odd, but when people get to the Cove, they just seem to think they are the only ones there and can do whatever. By the time I got the camera on him, he had started to distance himself a little bit. But he was literally right there in front of the second car, and was clearly one of the ones causing the problem.
      Yes, I believe Cades Cove is one of the most beautiful places on the planet. I always enjoy being there.

    This was a great video!! God's creation is magnificent. I loved the bear right slobg the road. This happened to us on the parkway below Townsend. The bear crossed the road right in front if us and we were the only ones around. I watch all your vlogs, but husband is usually the one that comments. We are planning a trip to the area in January and hope to meet y'all then.

    Also we are praying for you Shawnasi for your back issues. I have degenerative disc disease. Sciatica issues. Spinedolthies and spinedolthosias. I highly doubt I spelled those correctly. But it's basically severe arthritis So I understand what your going through.

    Just letting you know what the coins on a grave mean... a penny means you visited, a nickle means you were in basic together, a dime means you fought alongside, and a quarter means you were there when they died. Hope that helps 😊

    Seen where you was riding in back of your truck and noticed that you have a soft shell topper how good are them and what do they start at price wise thinking about getting one but no reviews on them that I can find

      I really like mine. We used to have one of the heavy tops when our boys were still at home to help us get it on and off. But it became too heavy for just my wife and I, and these are much lighter. I also like the fact that it folds down in the back. I don't even have it on right now, and that is another reason I like it. Not very difficult to get on and off.
      I paid about $850 for it, but it's been about 5 years.

    • @NCMemoryMakers
      @NCMemoryMakers  11 місяців тому

      I haven't actually looked at their website lately, to see how much they have gone up in price.
      You have to enter what type of truck you have, to see which one you need. You can then choose which color. We ordered ours online through their site.

There is a channel I think you would love in his playlist he has a series on the cove with some people who lived there with more of the fascinating unknown facts. It’s Donnie Laws his channel is wonderful. You would find it very interesting to continue to learn like I did. More unknown cemetery’s and a very interesting cutout rock sink on the side of a hill from a spring. Check it out when you have a minute.
