I think grass being planted and cut is being over-analyzed. It keeps soil from washing away, keeps you from having a mud pit when it rains. As to HOAs, read every single word before you sign it. They can put outrageous conditions in the contract and once you sign, you're legally bound. People have lost their homes over HOA practices.

mine thankfully ended up not being bad, no rules on what you can or can't do with your house or property, but our sub division has lots that are around 10 acres so you generally never even see your neighbors. there is a yearly due, but it's to maintain the road since it's a private road and not a county owned one. but that's it. once a year pay into the road maintenece, other than that they don't have a board or go around to peoples houses making sure they stored their garbage can in the ideal location, nothing silly like that. lots of people have chickens or horses. neighbors had a cow for a few years.
mine is not the average hoa experience though, staying away from hoas completely is solid advice.

I grew up on Long Island not far from Levittown. Our home was in a housing development built in the early 1950s primarily for veterans of WWII who were getting married and settling down. (my parents bought the house before I was born which was 1955). There were 3 styles of houses with different modifications available to create more a varied appearance. Everyone was having babies so there were tons of kids our age which was great because there was always someone to play with. One of the biggest chores we had once we were old enough was to cut the grass. I didn't particularly care for that but now that I have a home with a huge hilly lawn lawn I have to admit that I enjoy standing back and admiring my lawn when I'm done. My older bother still lives in that neighborhood 2 houses away from the one we grew up in. His lawn is fabulous.

NEVER buy a house in an HOA unless you are okay with their rules. They can control everything about the outside of your house, basically anything that can be seen from the street. The reason it exists is to keep the houses in the neighborhood looking uniform, but it is incredibly restrictive and can be costly if you break one of their rules, whether you knowingly do it or not. They can control grass length, the color of the paint on the outside walls, the color of drapes hanging in your window, whether you're allowed to grow produce or flowers and which types, whether you're allowed to have livestock, .... and the list goes on.

When my son and his wife lived in Texas, they knew nothing about HOA’S. You have to pay monthly fees and some have worse rules than others. They were given a palette of colours they could choose from to paint their house ( they could not deviate from this. They could not grow their grass more than x number of inches. They were even told when to have the8r Christmas decorations up by and to have a “ tasteful “ theme. ( I don’t know what happened if you weren’t Christian)? If you break their rules, they can fine you, and in some cases get you kicked out of the neighbourhood. My son and his wife now live in N. Carolina and they made sure to buy in an area that was not controlled by HOA.

Thank you ! Dandelions, my favorite flower. Great for bees, and are edible from roots to flowers. Full of antioxidants and a great many other vitamins and minerals. The South resorted to eating them during the Civil War and they saved many from starvation. Too many have resorted to spraying and poisoning them and killing off a great many bees in the process. I’ve learned that my HOA is much, much, more lenient than a lot of people’s (according to comments from other videos). In mine it’s really just about making the neighborhood look nice but you can still be original with how your house looks up to a point (you couldn’t have a bright pink house). But otherwise it’s just basic stuff and no one really cares. Plus, I get free access to a big rec center, library, and other things.

HOAs are an organization that governs how a neighborhood can look and how the members do things. They often have rules about the color of the house and they would have to get permission before changing the color. They can be really strict and a pain to deal with. Here the cities often pick up the trash and to get it picked up you have a cart to put it in and in this HOA, they had to make sure the cart had been pulled back not long after the trash had been picked up. I had lived in one where we had a concrete driveway and the one car I had had an oil leak in it and so some would leak on to the driveway and they would write us a letter saying we had to clean up or they would.

I live in Florida. There are communities that have HOAs and I'm sure they have rules requiring lawns of grass. The city of Cape Coral does have laws requiring grass lawns and there are laws limiting how tall the grass can grow. That being said, most cities don't require grass lawns. Some people even have concrete lawns so they don't have to mow. If you do have a grass lawn here in Fort Myers Florida, you're not allowed to let it become overgrown and too unsightly. That basically means if it grows to about 2 feet tall you get a warning from the city and if you don't mow within the allotted time, the city will send a crew to do it for you and you will be charged a fee. More than lawns the city and county ordinances deal with messy yards. Trash and old junk cars and appliances, etc. are only allowed in certain areas.

I live in a Homeowners Association (HOA) in Florida, and they have strict rules to reside here. The control the color of the paint of the homes and everyone is required to keep their home and property very neat and clean. If you fail to obey the laws for the HOA, the HOA can force you to move out of the area and they will sell your home. Each HOA has its own rules, but they all are strict. For example, you cannot do major repairs on your car in your driveway. You can only do minor repairs. You must also clean your driveway of the skid marks made by the car tires. Finally you cannot park commercial trucks at the home without covering the entire truck. When I say truck, I mean pickups and vans used for a business. I also cannot park my car in the street in front of my home at night. There are more rules but you must understand them all before trying to buy or rent a home in my neighborhood. Trucks larger than pickups and vans cannot be here after dark at all.
People who choose to live in an HOA do not want neighbors who do not want to maintain their homes correctly. They want a nice quiet neighborhood.

  • @ESUSAMEX

Yep. In America, homeowners are required by law to keep the law neat, clean, healthy and short. Failure to do maintain it correctly means heavy fines and harsher penalties after a warning or two.

What are HOA’s and what are they for? Well, a Home Owners Association is used to help ensure that the homes in it are kept at a certain standard to maintain home value and provide a service to the association. When you buy a home in an HOA, you sign a contract to follow the rules of the association, but not just as they are now, but also changes to the rules as well. A board of people are elected to run the HOA and that board manages the HOA, any assets it has, and updates the rules of the HOA. So if you have a great board, you have a great HOA, but if not, you can be in a world of hurt.
HOAs can be a great benefit. Many maintain community property of the HOA such as parks, pools & club houses, but they also make rules about the look and maintenance of a house/property. Color, land use, etc. Anything they want, that is legal, and visible to the outside they can write a rule to control it and a punishment if broken, which can be as simple as a fine up to forcing the sale of the home.
Many HOAs are just fine and work for the betterment of the entire HOA, but some have people who just want everyone to conform to their standards and don’t really care about anything else… Power Hungry Tyrants.
But you can choose to buy in an HOA or not. It is a choice, and being in an HOA can keep your home value up and supply some nice community perks.
I don’t want to get stuck with a set of rules that can change at someone’s will. The city has rules, but they are way more relaxed and easy going. The more rural you get the less rules affect you.
Enjoy you and the family videos.
    Thanks!

HOAs are horrible. Yes there are rules and you sign the contract when you buy your home in an HOA. You also pay for it. You also have to deal with complaints and rules including if you can park on the street, lawn maintenance, if your garage is open, what color your front door is, if you have a play swing in your backyard or a pool, noise, visitors (yes guests can be regulated) and so on. HOAs are horrible and you have to pay for them. You get a gate at the end of the street as security and you have to pay to live in a nanny state. F that!!

Maybe it's a "dad" thing, but my father did everything and more to keep other breeds of grass out of our yard. We were in Florida, and St. Augustine Grass was popular, but other types were "moving in." He'd spend hours pulling up "fake" grass. I didn't care, as a kid, what grass was in the yard, as long as I could tumble and play in it.
I have 2 HOA stories. The first home my husband and I bought was in a townhouse community (2- 3 stories, attached in rows of 4 or 5). There was a lot of "common" spaces between buildings, around the front, etc. Somehow, I called "not it" too slowly and became president of the HOA for 5 years. I hated it. However, our "rules" were broad, and the HOA fee was crazy low compared to others. Other than midnight calls for things I couldn't help with, that HOA wasn't horrible about rules. However, our second home is in a city/neighborhood (3500 residents). Instead of an HOA, we have a Architectural Board to approve changes to historic homes. One homeowner wanted to change their stoop stairs to a rounded shape, as one of their walls was rounded. The Board said "no." So they painted their house yellow with purple spots (the Board doesn't have rules on paint colors) until the Board gave in. They made their new steps, painted their house back to a normal color, and all was well in the world. Search "Avondale Estates Pox House" to see what they did.

Think of HOA as basically a ruling body on the local neighborhood street level, but the most annoying, verdictive people somehow always seem to become members of the ruling body. HOA starts out as something that could be helpful but can turn very toxic depending on who moves into the neighborhood or which neighbor you piss off knowingly or unknowingly.
Why anyone would join an HOA is beyond me. Home owners have enough stress dealing with local city bureaucracy, they don't really need to also have a neighborhood level bureaucratic body to deal with as well. To add insult to injury, you pay a monthly fee to the HOA to be micromanaged.

  • @ronsaunchegrow7418
    @ronsaunchegrow7418 4 місяці тому

When you buy into a property with a HOA you will have some community rules that you will have to follow. Though it isn't a surprise because you knew that you were buying a property with a HOA before you bought it. There are plenty of properties available without a HOA that people can buy and only have to abide by the rules set by the local government(town, city, or village). Rules vary from HOA community to HOA community, as do the HOA fees and HOA amenities. The rules can change in some HOAs if there is a governing body that can vote on changes to those rules. From my experience, as one of my properties has a HOA, rules are not set in stone in an HOA. My dad was elected President of his condominium complex HOA, so he could bring up proposals for relaxing or expanding the rules for the HOA that would be voted on by people in the complex that also pay into the HOA. If a quorum of residents can not be met then the board takes a vote on the proposal. HOA, no HOA, it is up to you they work well for some people and not for others. Know what you are getting into with the rules and decide if the extra amenities that are sometimes offered with an HOA are something that is an added benefit to your living wants and needs, read the contract before you buy the property.

Yup… HOAs are a nightmare at times. Not all are bad, just most. But it can dictate nearly everything about your home… the color of the house, the height of the fence, how many cars you can have parked at your house, the color of the flowers planted around your lawn… it’s insane. The biggest issue with most bad HOAs is that the people in charge are power-hungry… to say that they only care about fining other homeowners for their own personal amusement is an understatement.
Honestly… if I had a choice between a cheaper home in an HOA or a more expensive one without… I’d rather pay for the most expensive one.
That being said, there are some HOAs where it’s basically small fees to help pay for snow removal on sidewalks and maintenance of a neighborhood playground… you just have to read the contract and fully understand it before signing it.

People are afraid that if your house is only a few feet from theirs and they go to sell, you have a junkyard, farm animals, etc. Your yard looks li8ek a 3rd work country, their property values go down. Now if you live in a more country setting, maybe secluded a little bit, you do what you want. To a point, you can hunt, hang the carckus out, have the car up on blocks, leave stuff all over the lawn, not mow or even have a lawn... No one cares and can do anything even if they did care.

Bruh, if you can buy livestock you're not in danger of an HOA. Those are pretty much for residential suburbs. My parents have lived in the same place since 1988 and their HOA has never caused a problem. They keep a large housing division looking nice and keeping things safe. But you could defo not have livestock there, lol. That's more for a county property which is what you want.

I think its just important to check the HOA bylaws and ask around some other residents in the neighborhood. I would never tell anyone to stay out of my parents area, but perhaps, because its such a big development, its not such an issue. There is too much too deal with for little people to get a little power and go mad? That would be a worse issue in a smaller community I would think.

Out west grass lawns require plenty of irrigation because most of the west is dry. Lawns out west as a whole look like crap compared to the east.

HOA are for people that think every house should look the same. Great for those snobby people that cant have their neighbors fixing up a classic car in the front yard. Bad for anyone that might want to use their property for anything other than a status symbol. HOA rules are not set in stone. The board can change them. But they rarely ever get relaxed. The rules almost always get stricter. The board is full of nosey, opinionated people. Buying in to one is paying to be ruled over by your neighbors.

'Grass doesn't do anything' Grass serves the purpose of keeping soil in place. It is easy to manage for a lawn and looks nice too. I don't want a corn field in my front yard.
I am not a fan of the neck beard that is narrating the video. I know sarcasm and condescension are popular with these new types of humans, but that is why we are in the state that we are.

Agreed. Just one more example of UA-cam hubris, where their thought process go something like this: “I’ve had this thought, so the thought must be my opinion, after all, my opinions are always right just by virtue of me having them, so I believe I’ll make a self important, snarky op ed video, so I can continue to stroke my ego.” Go pound sand, ya twit.

It's not a very good representation, only the larney gated communities, HOA's and golf resorts (country clubs) tend to have immaculate lawns and landscaping, you can come upon some pretty unkempt properties just about anywhere.

I was born in 1955 in Levittown, New York. My parents owned the 5th Levitt house built. I have no idea why this guy says the houses had no plumbing. Within 10 years just about everyone added on to their houses, added fences, plants & shrubs. They were affordable nice houses. No one ever mowed their laws once a month. You mowed them when they needed to be mowed. This video stinks. Looks like someone put it together the night before it was due. What a hack job.

HOAs are the Karenification of home ownership. Neighbors don't like how long it takes you to put away the rubbish bins? You don't mow the lawn at the right times? You want to paint your front door a more welcoming color? Used to be you just dealt with the quirks and idiosyncrasies of your neighbors, or had a polite conversation if it was a serious issue. Now? Busybodies and Karens TELL YOU WHAT YOU CAN OR CANNOT DO: CONFORM! OBEY! COMPLY! People who think they have the right to tell others how to live deserve HOAs, the rest of use must not move in where one is in force.
