We actually just rewatched this movie a few weeks ago. The reason Velma’s wardrobe changes is that they’re brainwashing the monsters into looking and behaving like average teenagers. It actually makes a lot of sense why Velma’s wardrobe changed while her soul was out of her body, it wasn’t her. She was being changed to look more modern/with the times. And immediately in the next scenes after she gets her soul back she’s back in her usual attire that fits her personality more.

2 cool facts abt this movie that are pretty well known but still fun:
    1. A couple of years after this movie, Matthew Lillard became the main voice actor for Shaggy Rogers

These Scooby-Doo fans seem to not realize the amount of fame that both FPJ and SMG had in the late 90s and early 2000s, where they were staples of their genre. It's like they think of Scooby-Doo as being the reason that both actors are even famous and that it was responsible for them becoming a couple. This is obviously completely wrong, as they were both typecast as stand-ins for high schoolers.

Movies don't have to be 10/10 masterpieces in story and visuals, they just have to be fun. It really runs with the fun aspect, cranks it to 11 and it comes out to a great movie. It's like A Christmas Story. It's very 'cringe', but since it KNOWS it is and rolls with that aspect, it comes out to a great movie.

So, according to James Gun's Twitter, Velma was supposed to be a lesbian eyeing Daphne, who was bi, Fred was gay, and Shaggy and Scooby were stoners. The movie was then changed after a couple parents were "outraged" at a local test screening. So i hope that highlights some stuff. It was supposed to be an adult comedy but had to undergo several re-writes in order to please the conservatives who wanted their kids to go and see scooby doo

Well, actually the Mr. Bean's character already owned the island/etc, Scrappy took over. He said something about Scrappy showing up for an "Audition for our evil elves" or something, but it was like half-mumbled IIRC so it's easy to miss. The rest of the Scrappy plan is a bit odd still. Also, I had this on during work so sorry if I missed you mentioning, but the other reason they had Daphne in that really fun fight scene is she was played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, who played Buffy, and this filmed/released was during the show's run (IIRC Buffy ended in 03).
My mom and I would watch both this and it's sequel (which is admittedly better in every single way) so many times when I was growing up. I still love them and they are the best kind of dumb fun. A Pup Named Scooby-Doo was rerun a TON until like the mid-00s, especially in the late mornings. It was commonly my "I'm home sick" cartoon as a kid.
Also, I'm pretty sure the filming was all done before 9/11 happened, which is why Scooby could do *that* and not get stopped by airport security. People forget (and I barely have any memory of it myself, honestly) that a lot of airports used to be SUPER lax.
Linda Cardellini (Velma) would later voice Marcie in the '10s series Mystery Incorporated, who was a villain/rival of Velma's, then later a friend with *implications* that was later confirmed by creators to be intended/written to be Velma's girlfriend but had to tone it down as well.
