    I posted a video on my own channel recently on the subject of ‘sticky buttons and surfaces’, in particular concerning my Maserati. Italian supercars from 10 years ago suffer from this, particularly in warm climates. The shiny coating biodegrades with time. Being too enthusiastic can actually remove the markings as well... as I have found out to my cost! 🙄 .. Great vid as always my friend!👍👏

    The dirt you're cleaning off will be dirt and skin cell deposits that build up over time. When cleaning the buttons you need to be careful not to use too much pressure otherwise you risk rubbing the lacquer off. Your Jag has not been well maintained and that build up of dirt will also be on the indicator/wiper stalks. The ideal tool to aid with cleaning is an electric toothbrush. It gets into the crevices and lifts the dirt out. The ambient lighting should be easy enough. I fitted a set into my Jag and after some adjustment, I set the lights to the same colour as in the door card's.

    I have this on several buttons of my 2014 XF Spbrake, I had assumed that some one had touched the buttons with brake fluid or some other muck on their fingers during a service.
    Are we saying this is general degradation of the standard Jaguar finish??
    Thanks for the video, by the way.

    • @carfanfan
      @carfanfan  Рік тому +1

      I'm afraid it will get worse. Especially if the car stands in the sun often. The supplier that made the buttons for Jaguar made them for Mercedes-Benz as well. So all cars from 2013 to 2017 had thos issue. If the buttons were supplied by the same supplier. There was never a recall because it wasn't safety related, but there should have been an extended warranty on these.

    Thankyou for the video. I own a 2011 XF in Australia. In 2012 I made a claim under warranty re sticky buttons. Jaguar did no honour the claim as they said they had not seen the issue before so it must be due to some chemical inbalance in MY SKIN. I was not impressed!
    Now you see this issue everywhere. Must be alot of people out there with chemical imbalances.

    • @carfanfan
      @carfanfan  Рік тому +1

      Lol, manufacturers will stoop to anything to get out of a warranty claim. Thosnis a first though and I find it quite insulting they would blame your anatomy for causing a defect in their product.
      Mercedes-Benz has the same issue as the same supplier supplied manufactured their buttons. They clearly didn't do hot weather tests properly because you and I live in the same part of the southern hemisphere where summers are really hot. Colder places like Europe haven't experienced this as much as we have. Some States in the USA have though, Texas, Arizona, California, Nevada. All struggling with sticky buttons.

    • @carfanfan
      @carfanfan  4 роки тому

      Hey there, my driver's door is also a bit stiff to open. Basically, they wear with age. WD40 will in fact harm the micro switch inside the handle mechanism. Don't spray anything in there. Also, dirt will eventually get on WD40 and stick to it and make matters worse. The sticky door issue is something that's been with these cars since new.

    I used Isopropyl alcohol on mine, trying not to leave my care wreaking of the stuff in a strict Islamic country was another challenge, but as careful as I was, rubbing some of the paint off was unavoidable.

Once you have the codes you can tell what's wrong with it. Check the air mass meter and that the plugs is properly plugged in. If it is, it could be a fault Air mass meter. This sits on a pipe that leads into the air box where the air filter is situated.

    • @carfanfan
      @carfanfan  4 роки тому +3

      Hey Brant. I can definitely recommend the XFR. Power galore and practical. However, make sure it has FULL service history. Otherwise you will be in for some big bills. Make sure the brake discs have enough life on them still as well as the pads, not cheap to do. Also, if there are rattling noises coming from the front of the engine while it's idling. That means the supercharger couplers needs replacing and if you can't do that job yourself, the labor will set you back quite a bit. Buying these performance sedans 2nd or 3rd hand means the previous owner has enjoyed the life out of it so keep a look out for that. 😉

    Did they ever fixed that sticky button problem? I have a 2015 Jaguar XF (last production year for the X250) and my buttons are still in perfect condition. Thought sometime near the end of production they manage to solve the sticky button problems on their cars, but even after sending it to the dealer for servicing and sending to an upholsterer they commented that they had never seen an interior of the XF in such good condition as they usually have sticky buttons. Not sure wether my car had a better part fitted or it’s due to how I take care of my car (no food and drinks allowed in, hands always clean)

    • @carfanfan
      @carfanfan  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Izan. The later models won't show signs yet of this. Jaguar never fixed it and should have held their supplier responsible for this. Mercedes have the same issue as they used the same supplier. The supplier probably doesn't even exist anymore. Hot weather and standing in the sun alit causes the deterioration to occur quicker. If your car is garaged all the time, you could save yourself from having to go through this 😉

      Hey. I would say that 2016 is worth 16,000 Euros now. That's what I got for my 2016 XF when I sold it in June this year. They deprecate like rocks sinking in the ocean, fast. That dealer was trying to screw you my friend. I was fortunate when I bought mine last year because they dropped the price from €45,000 to €21,000. So I lost €5,000 in a year's worth of ownership.

      These are mostly fads followed by all manufacturers. They all copy each other so as not to be outdone by one another. Piano black is thankfully retreating from car interiors. What were they thinking with that? Fingerprints and smudges galore in a luxury car interior is ghastly. As touch screens start to replace buttons, I think we'll see a phasing out of them in future cars as electric cars start to take over ;)

      Personally, I haven't. But thanks for the idea. It's worth a try for anyone struggling with this and people are still struggling with this issue. I see it coming up often on UA-cam car videos, especially Maseratti.

    Painfully long. 10 minutes into the video before addressing the title subject. Chould have been a 2 minute video.

      Ok, I've cut all the crap and shortened the video. Happy now?
