    BJU English was a huge win for my reluctant writer (also 5th grade) this year. We switched to it almost halfway through the school year but were still able to complete it this month. We skipped all of the grammar lessons because she was doing a separate grammar curriculum that was already working. We also combined several lessons because a lot of them do not need to be split into separate lessons. Something to look into if you haven’t already!

      Thank you! I’ve had lots of people suggest this as well. It’s on my list.

    Oh man, time management has been the biggest lesson for sure this year with my 5th grader. I think its ao important and it really is not an intrinsic skill for every kid. But it has gotten better for us with time! I'm also stuck on writing next year. I feel like writing is such an individualized topic, and there are SO many programs out there. It's hard to pick!

      We will keep trucking along. I agree it’s definitely not in her natural nature but she has done so well. Only up from here. ❤️ Writing 😩

    Thank you for this. My son is going into 5th grade next year and this will be our first year homeschooling. I appreciate the review of the different curriculums.

    What a great video! We’ve been considering MBTP literature guides. Have y’all tried any other ones like progeny press? If so, how do y’all like them in comparison? Thanks for sharing!

      Yw! I haven’t used Progeny Press. I have looked at those a few times. They were recommended in the comment section of one of my videos.

    I just recently started coming across your videos and enjoy them so much! I binge watched some yesterday!
    I have a rising 6th and 2nd grader! They both were pulled from public school November 2023. My oldest is a reluctant writer and needs work on grammar, but is a strong reader. Do you have any recommendations with lower price points?

      I'll be curious to watch what you choose for math! I will have a second third fifth and 8th grader. We've been using homeschool curriculum in our private school the last 3 years but we are homeschooling next year.

      I haven’t used these before but do know some homeschoolers who have found these very helpful. The critical thinking company has a grammar specific book. Grammar for the Well Trained Mind, and Evan Moor and Spectrum have grammar books for each grade level as well. You can also check out Cathy Duffy reviews online for not only grammar but all other subjects for homeschool curriculum. 😀

      What curriculum have you all been using?

    • @primaryadventuressnow
      @primaryadventuressnow 2 місяці тому +1

      @LifeofTillmans we have been using bju for English and reading, abeka science/health, horizons for math, zaner bloser for penmanship, and for spelling I used the moffat girls off of TPT, and an awesome Little Learners social studies unit off of TPT. (That's what I used at my private school I've been teaching at the last three years.) I homeschooled prior to teaching and used most of the same resources. I am returning to homeschooling next fall....and plan to use MFW Exploring Countries and Cultures, zaner bloser for penmanship, horizons math, BJU English/Reading/Spelling, and Aplogia Zoology 2. I am not using the Ecosystems book with MFW though, we are using Adventures on Planet Earth with the MFW. I am hoping to instill a return in LOVING for learning together again as well as in science. My kids are 2nd, 3rd and 5th. We are unsure what we plan to do with my 8th grader. I am trying to be very open-minded and flexible for him. If he homeschools with us, he will do most of the brand of same curriculum except he loves Saxon and he will do his own science. Likely God's Design series.

      @@LifeofTillmanswe started out with TGTB LA and it was just too much! I have a 2 year old in the mix, as well. We then started using Miacademy and I thought things were going great because both boys seemed to like it until I realized they weren’t retaining anything, and it was like pulling teeth to add anything else to their plate other than their online work.

    Hi! How much time per week did you put into the moving beyond the page lit guide?

    • @LifeofTillmans
      @LifeofTillmans  2 місяці тому +1

      Depending on how fast your child reads would be the determining factor. Usually my girls would spend about 30 minutes reading and then another 20-30 minutes on the lesson for each day. When we do the studies we stop some of our other ELA components to allow for the time change.
