It is loosely built on a very old folk tale. A girl falls in love with death and realizes that she will age very rapidly but she still chooses him. Meanwhile Death makes "his change" but she is now lost to him the opposite way. I have been told that the story is early christian so fighters/soldiers should not seek death in battle just to get to Valhall (where only those that die in battle go in the old norse mythology). Some say it is even older than that, and meant that viking fighters should not seek death in battle for the above reason. .... and you know I love your reaction. So true to the art you react for. And this story and the music and the cinematics really stirs something in everyone. You two reacting differently but still in unison!

The music video is actually an excerpt of a short film, maybe 20 mins or so. The story is a bit longer, but basically the same. One interesting thing about the short film is that Eivør plays the mother of the young girl, so there are 3 generations of women living in the house in the beginning.

I looooove this song so much! And the Video for me is one of the best ever made! What a beautiful but tragic story! I experienced this song live in front of me and it was nothing but epic! So glad to see Eivør in more and more reaction videos ❤

Thank you ! ... Glad you enjoyed it ...
I do like how the end was left open for interpretation ...
Live versions ARE great as she expounds with the vocals ( very high notes ) toward the end
that weren't included in this studio version ...

Being speechless is a common situation after listening to Eivør.
Good news : it works with any song of her, so be prepared, it won't be the last time.
As many said before, now you need to listen to this song in a live version, because the second part is epic when performed on stage. The live from 2012 is excellent, the Sofar version is an acoustic version where the vocals shine even more, or the live at Nordic house 2020 to hear how it sounds in recent concerts.
I also like to introduce a Norwegian artist to you. Her name is Susanne Sundfør and she's a very talented singer, song writer, lyricist and musician. Her vocals are at the highest quality.
Any song can be recommended, I suggest "It's All Gone By Tomorrow (Live At Parkteatret)".
But it could be as well "The Brothel live" or "Undercover Live" or "Rome (Live at Parkteatret)" or ....
My favorite being "Mountaineers (Live from the Barbican)" but this one starts in a very dark mood and may be more difficult to digest for many people.

If you see what you see only metaphorically for reality, then this is not really a love song, but a song about depression.
A depression in which one deals more and more with one's own death in one's mind and even makes friends, in order to finally commit suicide in the end, because one considers death to be better than the life one lives.
Basically, the woman here lives in a lonely place only with her mother and she dies. What comes is depression and no one far and wide to help her. She falls into depression and commits suicide out of loneliness.
Have you seen Eivør - Falling Free live?
If not ,you should and we with you.

@@deepbluehue3 Obviously, Eivør's idea was different, otherwise this video wouldn't exist. Because visual language tells the basis of the song in a supportive way.

It’s a nice song and the video is good but nowhere near as good as the live performance.
