You can do that using custom number formatting. Select the cells that have the date, hold the Control Key and press the 1 key (this opens the 'Format Cells' dialog box. In Numbers tab, click on Custom and use the following format - MM/DD/YYYY

If I delete the dates from the column, all the blank cells become highlighted. Why is that? The cells should be highlighted only the cell value > 5. How can I fix it? thanks
Depends on where the condition is. Open the conditional format and see the 2 that are in the worksheet and move one above or below to affect the order of preference. You can also uncheck the true in the last column there to suit your needs.
It refers to the format that decides how the day part of the date would be shown. D - Shows day value without leading zero DD - Shows day value with leading zero DDD - Show day name is short format (Mon, Tue, Wed...) DDDD - Shows day name in full (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday...)
I want my conditional formatting to highlight weekday 5 which is Friday so I used the same formula =WEEKDAY(D2,2)=5 but it highlights every Thursday instead. Any idea why this is happening?
I figured it out. This happened when I selected the entire column including the heading. When I selected only the date range, I got the result I wanted.

What if the holiday is a Saturday or Sunday? Will it highlight with blue or orange?
Depends on where the condition is. Open the conditional format and see the 2 that are in the worksheet and move one above or below to affect the order of preference. You can also uncheck the true in the last column there to suit your needs.
