Yes!! This has been the most comprehensive look that I have found. We had already decided to move forward with starting MCT, but this has definitely removed any doubts about whether or not we’re making the right decision. Thank you!!
Wonderful poems by your daughter! We started Island level this year, and have loved it. My son didn't like Grammar Island because it was new and he needed practice for it to "click", but once it did he really is enjoying Sentence Island. I've been surprised/impressed at how well he's doing his daily sentences.
Thanks for going through this level! We decided to do MCT but this helps us navigate how to do it. I bought almost all the books on ebay so much cheaper. Im just looking for the literature book versions now. We start fully homeschooling next year and your channel has been amazing to watch!
Thanks for the walkthru! We have done pieces of the first level, but we never quite stuck with it for my eldest. However, I think it may be perfect for my middle, who prefers a slower and more in depth pace thru fewer books than her brother. I love how you tweaked the schedule. 😊
I am so thankful for your content. Im just starting homeschooling and my son is going into 6th grade and my daughter is going into 3rd grade. I love all of your videos ❤
In your opionion do you think just doing Grammar Voyage and Practice Voyage as our grammar review starting middle school would be beneficial/not confusing? We already have other L.A. components we're using and loving but grammar could use some tweaking and brush up.
If you need more grammar, go for it! I'm a fan of FrankenCurriculum. Use what works. I think this could be hugely beneficial. I like that all of MCT revolves around the grammar piece as the central thread. If you have pieces that work for the rest, but need more for grammar, give it a shot!
Thank you so much for doing this-it’s so helpful to see how you are implementing this program. I love the idea of MCT but my eldest just sees it as a waste of her time-she wants to just “do the thing,” rather than get into all the nitty-gritty of grammar and composition, which kills me, but I have to follow the child on this one. I have started Poodle with my younger two and I’m hopeful we can continue to make it work!
That's where I think MCT shines. It doesn't insult the kids with having them repeat ad nauseum. It gets in with big ideas and gets out. I do recognize that's all in perception, though. If you have a learner who is happy with their path, I wouldn't change it.
We loved and completed the Island Level in 4th but then enrolled into a private school. What level would you recommend for our now 7th grader? Would it be okay to skip Town and jump into Voyage?
What I would do, and did when we started, was just go as fast as she was able through 2 levels in 1 year. This way, if it was remedial, that was ok just move faster. What was new or needed more instruction, we just took at her pace. MCT is such a different method of teaching. The grammar is just repeated with each level for additional understanding. The writing builds this way: island=good sentence, town=good paragraph, voyage=good essay. If you feel like your learner has a firm grasp on paragraph, you could skip it. You could also consider ordering the Voyage level whole and then just adding in the vocabulary and writing from the town level. The vocabulary also builds. For example, in the level 4 vocabulary 20 words each lesson with 5 from Caesars 1 and 5 from Caesars 2.
I can't recall if it explicitly listed when to use which marks or if it was taught through the use of them. More so the understanding of sentence structure than a formulaic approach. I will update with RFP response when I have it.
RFP says: They all teach punctuation, but at increasing levels of complexity. You really can’t have grammar and writing without punctuation woven in at every level 😁 Then said that explicit direction is given in the Island Level, but not sure which book. They said they'll get back to me. So, I'll get back to you when I have the info.
Ok, whoever is running the IG account over there is on fire! Here's the response: Ok, so I have your answer! The grammar books have all of the punctuation rules embedded in them. Level 1 covers parts of speech, parts of sentence, clauses, and prepositional phrases only. The rules are very basic at that level because they only get into one type of phrase, but the MCT style 4-level sentence analysis has punctuation baked in as the final step. By Level 2, every type of phrase and clause is introduced and they learn the punctuation rules for any type of sentence structure. For example, when they learn about what appositives are, they learn that they must be set off by commas. This is why punctuation and grammar are taught as one. In some of the higher level books there are punctuation quizzes and appendices, but at every level punctuation is covered in the fourth level of four-level analysis. I know this is confusing wording because Level 4 books and four-level analysis sound so similar!
Does this help give you a better idea of the MCT program? How to use it? How to approach it simply?

So great to hear! That's my goal!🥳

It took us a while to love it, too! I totally get it.
Her poetry is fantastic! Great work!
Thanks!! I'm proud
This is an amazing review and walk through on how you are using it. I may reconsider this one. Thanks❤
I'm happy to share! I know that a lot of people find it overwhelming (

I'm so glad they've been helpful! Welcome to the homeschool clan!
We’re starting the Poodle books in the fall with my second grader, so I’m so glad you’re covering MCT! You make everything sound so doable! Thank you!
If it wasn't, I would quit😅😅

My first instinct was to say, "I'm a tweaker!" Immediately recognizing the flaw in that I'll choose: I'll modify anything!
@@MakingEverydayMagic LOL 😆
Thank you for such an-depth walk through! It really helps!! How would you compare MCTs literature component with Mosdos?
I prefer MCT. I feel like Mosdos is checking the box. MCT truly expands a love for literature, analysis, and discussion.
Awesome, that makes me excited and a bit more confident going the MCT route. Thanks again!
Mosdos did us no wrongs, but we didn't love it.

That’s weird with the delaminating. We own levels 1, 2, and 3 and have zero issues with the books breaking down. They are all in perfect condition.
I know my kids can be rough on books, but the student level MCT books are the only ones it happens to. 🤷♀️
Thank you for the walk through of this level!!!
Happy to share! There's not enough info about MCT out there.

I hope this makes sense😅
I am planning so start my then 3rd grader on Island next year. Do you remember which book teaches punctuation?
I do not. I know in Poodle, it was the 5th book. I am going to ask RFP and see what they say.
I can't recall if it explicitly listed when to use which marks or if it was taught through the use of them. More so the understanding of sentence structure than a formulaic approach.
