Learning Veggies VS Fruit Snacks: Making Learning Fun for Better Results
In this video, we dive into the concept of Learning Veggies VS Fruit Snacks - comparing how fun, engaging learning (like fruit snacks 🍓🍉) tends to go down easier and lead to better results than traditional, tougher learning methods (like vegetables 🥦🥕). Just because learning is hard doesn't mean it's effective! We explore how making learning enjoyable can foster a better understanding, motivation, and retention of information, and why “fun learning” doesn’t mean less valuable learning.
If you’ve ever struggled to get through tough material, this discussion of Learning Veggies VS Fruit Snacks is for you! We’ll talk about strategies to make learning more exciting and why it’s important to focus on methods that truly resonate with learners, even if they seem less “traditional” or “difficult.” Learning should be fun, not a chore!

    OK, big question - do the videos have captions, and if so, are the captions correct? That's my big challenge with using video math lessons (or any kind of video lessons that included numbers or unfamiliar terms). Sometimes there are no captions, or other times the only option is the auto-generated captions, but they aren't quite right, which could be a huge problem in math (wrong numbers, etc.). Thanks for checking if you have a minute!

      I just checked. There do not seem to be captions. Most all of the information is written on the worksheet pages shown, but the Mr. Denison commentary is not captioned.

    Denison was a game changer for us! We were using Math Mammoth before that and it was AWFUL for my son. He was stressed and confused and in tears daily. We did the trial week and he was actually excited for math and asked to start with math each day. He's gotten 100% on every assignment/test so far compared to the 50%-70% he was getting with Math Mammoth.

      @@lisaroper421 we stuck with it for 5 months😩 he was public schooled up until that point and wasn't familiar with conceptual math. My younger son started in MM 3 and did fine with it, but preferred Oak Meadow Math 4 so he switched over to that.

      @@lisaroper421 I'm glad there are so many options out there to choose from, but I wish the process of finding the perfect fit for each child wasn't so expensive😂 we started off the year with one line up, changed history curriculums after 2 months, then realized the science was boring them to tears, math was a daily battle/breakdown. They had a little vacation and I took that time to look into Oak Meadow and a few other curriculums, printed out a few weeks worth of samples, when the vacation was over we did a full week of Oak Meadow samples(and my oldest also samples Denison for that week) and they loved it, it was the first week we had zero tears and everything flowed so nicely. My oldest is a reluctant writer, he doesn't like to put forth much effort in learning but his week with Oak Meadow he was writing paragraph long responses and enjoying the science experiments, he was excited to talk about what he was learning/reading. It was like he became a different kid entirely. One of the many reasons we chose to homeschool was to encourage a love for learning/reading in our children and the curriculums we started off with were giving us the opposite effect.

    • @MakingEverydayMagic
      @MakingEverydayMagic 3 дні тому

      Yes! I totally agree that it feels like a lot. Here's basically what we did. I will also link a video. If you search here, I do have a video for every level. AAR gets long the higher you go. I broke up the lessons by ending every week with the story. So some weeks was phonics lesson, reading. Some weeks was a 2 phonics lessons, then the reading. We would pre read the story outloud the precious weekend for the bedtime story, work the lesson together, play the cut out activity, then I would usually give my child a highlighter to choose the words she wanted to read. I would alternate and read the others with her repeating them. For the story, especially in levels 3&4, I didn't make her read the whole thing. We usually started reading together and then I would point to a page for her turn. She never knew which page was coming. We would read the story 3/4 times over the week. It worked best for us when I wasn't making her do it all herself. She still learned by repeating and reading together.

    When I listen to people, I realize that for the most part people want more or less the same thing and don’t realize it. People are just afraid of different extremes. Like banning abortion in every single case even if it’s life threatening vs allowing it to happen at full term. Or allowing every type of gun vs a forced gun buy back. Taking away trans rights vs allowing kids to transition with drugs and surgery. The list could keep going. The media makes it seem like the extremes are the alternative and the sad part is you really can’t trust what you’re even voting for. I will hear a politician say one thing then the next day I’ll see a video of them clearly saying the opposite.

    A little off topic but I recently learned we are allowed to “Undervote”! We don’t actually *have* to vote for everything on the ballot. Makes me feel better about voting bc I don’t want to feel like I’m being forced to choose one or the other when I don’t agree with the policies of either. I refuse to vote for either of the 2 that are trying to get the spot for our district bc they both are horrible and I won’t associate my name with either of them. It’s So important to look into these candidates and see what they really stand for, and what they’ve done not just a D or R next to their name. I won’t vote for anyone that is agreeing with censoring speech, so Troy balderson won’t be getting my vote, and neither will Jerrad Christian. They both suck and will Both vote away our rights.

    It makes me so sad how families are torn apart by a difference in views. My sister, her fiancé, my mother-in-law, father-in-law, brother-in-law and my step dad have different views than my husband and I have. None of this has affected our relationships with them though. We will have conversations sometimes about political beliefs, but they aren’t hateful, and we come away with understanding though neither perspective is usually changed. My sister’s fiancé had one instance when she got hateful about political stuff and we had a conversation about differing opinions and respect and haven’t had another issue since. When I worked, my manager and I had polar opposite beliefs and we had some of the best conversations about our opinions. She had told me at one point that whenever she needed a different perspective she wanted to talk to me about it. I think having conversations about hard topics is a lost art. You should be able to have a civil conversation. Hear someone out and say, “I hear you. This is where I am coming from.” And come away with understanding. A hard conversation doesn’t have to change minds, but all the hate, regardless of party affiliation, needs to end. In the end every one has their opinion and they are entitled to hold firm on the beliefs that they have. But you don’t have to be a nasty person about it. These are hard topics, and I am glad you’re using your platform to encourage empathy, and listening instead of “vote for this person”. 💕

    I systemized everything as that's the way I earn. Systemizing and automating other people's company 😂. At home I say no for everything which is in early morning as that's family breakfast and if we wake up relaxed without clock we happy all/most day. Other rule we have if you own it take care of it. This makes laundry and cleaning way more easier especially I try to buy my son everything red, orange and green and my daughter blue, pink and yellow. Way less arguments Your color your stuff your responsibility 😅. And yes we are on a schedule but instead of time we do order. Like breakfast, refreshing self and tidy own bedroom, moving outside, learning from books fruit project like art, or science experiments, moving outside, / swimming, lunch , quit time, ( work for me) walk, dinner, boardgame, reading time, sleep, only one fix is the Saturday swimming and athletic class. Otherwise we are flexible just do things after eachother

    What are your thoughts on this please… Denison only has Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, and Advanced Alg & Trig (which is between Alg 2 & Pre-Calculus). My concern is after speaking w/ Mr. Denison, he has NO plans to write a Pre-Calculus course. Pre-Calculus is the course I am wanting to get my children through in high school for college prep. We will need math for 10th and beyond. In my very loose plans we will likely choose one of these options: the last level of Denison, MUS Pre-Cal, dual credit, or a consumer math. It really depends on the directions they head with their post homeschool life.

    I love this! It’s amazing how simple changes really can change how our days go, and change our moods for the better. I’ve been making all our bread products for a year and a half now (bread doesn’t need 17 ingredients) and I’ve been doing sourdough for a year now. There is something so stress relieving for me and it feels so great to make something and know I’m feeding my family healthier bread products. If you haven’t tried sourdough English Muffins yet, do it! It is my favorite to make (and eat lol)! My husband and I do date nights every Wednesday, at home because we have littles, so we do our date after the kids go down. If you want something different you should check out The Adventure Challenge. They have mini dates you can do at home or other couples ones that will send you off doing other things. We try to do one once a month to every other month. They foster connection and push you to do things you may not normally do. It’s fun. I love the idea of tandem cleaning! It really is so important for our kids to not only learn how to clean properly but feel involved and a part of the family. I’m going to try this!

    I say, get rid of/sell the embroidery machine. It's not serving you, so no need to keep it around. Let it go ❄️

    If seeing the embroidery machine causes you to feel guilt - SELL it. I went thru this with a huge stash of craft equipment that I wasn't using - and feeling guilt. What a relief and a weight off my soul when I finally found it all a "good" home. I really haven't missed the stuff and the attending guilt.

    Thank you for introducing me to Knowledge Crates a few years ago. This has been a wonderful experience for me to share with my granddaughter. We love the mix of books, art and science. It is definitely worth the cost! My son and DIL decided to homeschool her for Kindergarten and I sent them to Timberdoodle for ideas. They ordered the elite kit and they are having a wonderful time. Thank you for all of your wonderful research and thoughtful reviews.

    Shanna!!!! This is such a great video! This is my second year homeschooling my 11-year-old, and I have learned so many awesome things from watching your videos. Last year was a little rough, especially after being in public school for four years. But between the things I learned last year about my specific child, and things I’ve learned from you (and many other amazing homeschool mamas on UA-cam) this year has going so much better! I’ve incorporated a lot more fun, I’ve incorporated more one on one time with her, I’ve incorporated reading with her more, I’m trying to be so much more involved this year rather than just handing her stuff and telling her to do it. We have had such a better time so far this year! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Also, the beginning items on this video, the life skills, totally on point!

    I started my kids on Zaner Bloser earlier this year, and I wish I'd started it sooner. The same goes for Math with Confidence, it's leagues better than our previous math curriculum. I just didn't know how many holes the old curricular had until 2 years into using it. Knowing what I know now, I would've saved my time and money and gone straight to Math with Confidence.

    Your trip looks amazing! We have been to Disney World/Disneyland several times, but not since they got rid of FastPass. Did you guys buy any Lightning Lanes (Multipass or Single Pass), and if so, do you think it was worth it?

    • @MakingEverydayMagic
      @MakingEverydayMagic 17 днів тому

      We did do lighting lane multi pass once for each park. I think the most value you will ever get from your ticket is going in the off-season. We were able to ride every single ride available using the multi pass. If you understand how to use it, you're short on time, you can budget it, it's totally worth it. That being said, it's the first thing I would skip to save. We did not opt for any of the paid individual lightning lanes.

    I took my kids to Legoland Orlando this spring, and we loved it. It was their first true theme park, so I was worried one or both kids would get overwhelmed. They both did great. That said, I don't think we'll go back because it's both cost prohibitive, and they'll age out of a lot of the rides. I would say Legoland Orlando is best for kids in the 4-8 age range.

      We did all 5 books in one year. I think like 32 weeks. One chapter a week. You can easily skip the last 2 and prioritize the first 3. If you really just want a hard fun dose of grammar, try book 1. Each MCT level recaps the same info but with a more complex understanding.

    This was our first year homeschooling and about 4 weeks in my kiddos got the opportunity to take their dream trip(to a family farm for 3 weeks to learn how to run multiple farms/businesses) they were ECSTATIC. They had the best time, gained amazing life experiences and business knowledge, visited historical sites/museums and had an all around blast. I dont regret it at all, but it did throw things out of whack for a bit😂

      @@MakingEverydayMagic Totally! Once they came home and we returned to our school routine it was glaringly obvious our curriculum choices weren't working for their personalities/lea rning style. So I decided to have them try out the lengthy samples from Oak Meadow grade 4 and 7 and oh my goodness, they LOVED it. Our days flowed so easily and naturally and they were enjoying learning. My older son has always given bare minimum effort in school and he was actually writing lengthy, thought out responses to questions and enjoying the readings/assignments. He was working independently and staying focused, it was like he did a complete 180! I had originally wanted to start with Oak Meadow but got talked out of it by various homeschool groups, and the price was a bit scary. Hindsight is 20/20, I spent just as much piecing together and supplementing other curriculums that they just do not jive with.

    Please anyone!! We are new to Texas and fairly new to homeschool. I have a first grader. But finding social studies and Texas history for her has been my biggest hiccup. I’ve started studies weekly but like u said it’s seeming to be our least favorite. What other kits can you recommend for this level. I need something all set up this year and ready to roll. We have had some unfortunate family events and I don’t have a lot of time to plan right now Something online would be ideal Please help. Am I over analyzing social studies?!?!

    We are currently using Jacob’s Algebra (a very solid Algebra 1 program) for two of our kids. It is rigorous for sure and I am planning on switching them to Denison for geometry next year. I am looking forward to something more simple. Our kids are in grades 7 and 9 and are at least 40% of the way through this book/course (we worked over the summer). They are solid and/or advanced math students, so I was hesitant to switch to something that might be “too easy”. What do you plan to do after Algebra 2? Or have you thought about that? I’ve been thinking about precalculus through MUS, but we’ve never used MUS before.

    • @MakingEverydayMagic
      @MakingEverydayMagic 27 днів тому

      By then, I'll meed math for 10th grade. It would either be the not yet released Denison Trig, MUS Pre-Cal, a college dual credit course, or a consumer style math. No idea where her path will be pointing by then.
