Its not the system; Its the demography
it is the system, chinese table tennis only changed to what it is in the 90s
zhen kang Bong I disagree. China has massive funding on table tennis just like how the US has massive spending on basketball or football. When you have so many people playing a single sport in a country, only the best survive and the best can’t mess up or they get replaced

@@tonioyahn6898 lol..if its only depend on the demography then india , indonesia brazil etc all these contries must be good at every sport. i dont deny the demography is one of the key reason , but it wont simple be the only reason, its must be based on the effective teaching n traninng system , also backed by massive funding , same as any exellent business money+tech+management=leading n competitive company.
Instead of showing the handshake at the end of the match, they switched to a camera that points at the viewers. Thanks for that....

Zhou Yu is young and played very well of course, but you know what's amazing about Timo? We've seen Timo do his magic against so many different opponents, over so many years, against players of so many generations and playing styles, and he appears to be always improving and showing us new tricks. Yes, he didn't win this time, and maybe he doesn't win very often against the top Chinese players these days, but I think this longevity is what makes watching him, and the likes of him, like Samsonov or Federer (yes, I know it's a different sport), really enjoyable, even if he doesn't win.

Hats off to Timo. Other players at his age would not even be close to his level on his bad day.

Please don't forget that the highest aged pro player in the current time is Samsonov and he is 42+. The trend of European players to play still after 35+ is very common. Whereas Chinese team always have fresh young players ready to replace the pro in their top forms.
ZHOU Yu is very much underrated as he is always in the shadow of Ma Long, Xu Xin and Fan Zhendong. Given the chance to play more international matches, Zhou Yu's ranking would surely improve dramatically. He has proved himself by beating Timo Boll.

i find it quite nice that they pair/match up lefties with lefties. it’s not everyday you see a match that has both players on the same hand (let alone playstyle). there’s usually right/right or right/left. but it’s almost mesmerizing to watch two left handers play together. loved this match. legends never die💓

I agree completely! As soon as the last point is won they always cut away to the crowd, or the coach, or the team. I want to see the reaction and interaction of the players. Who cares about the crowd?

Kind of sad, TB could have had this one...
Zhou Yu's movement and tactics isn't the best among Chinese players, but his shot quality is simply amazing.
He generates power mainly from his forearm and wrist acceleration, almost like a penholder. Not spectacular looking body mechanics but the ball only cares about the racket speed and angle at the moment of impact. And he seems to have that Bruce Lee's one inch punch like acceleration just before impact.

Despite having good and spinny shots, Boll is too slow against these younger Asian players. Samsonov, who is an older player, is very strategic and very controlling.
(Zhou isn't as fast as some other Asian players)

He is very good, but he is not such good like FZD or Jingkun- maybe. I remember him in final Polish Open / my country / 2012 where he played with Wang Hao ;ua-cam.com/video/qtmdXaH6LN0/v-deo.html. His advantage is that he plays with his left hand. He got amazing technique as every Chinese table tennis player. Zhou Yu fighting for his life and relevance within the CNT. You gotta beat Boll. That's the standard. Zhou Yu gave it everything he had. Sure did it the hard way. He should go down the line aggressively more often. And Boll exposed Zhou Yu's wide forehand many times.

Its funny that how ZY is not improving over all these years as like the chinese national team has given up on him. The only reason he took the win against timo is cuz of timo's injuries.

Poor Timo.... i respect him but i think he should take a rest for a year like Ma Long did due to injury but without injury and see if can once and for all win something, he’s falling to longevity and not gaining titles unlike Ma Long so this is a sign of retirement despise having skills and knowledge.
He is, not playing on the world tour till October iirc. He did it last year too, and performed wonderfully at the world cup.

Yes, instead of T05 on both sides he's using T05 hard on forehand and dignics 05 on backhand

he won great points with his backhand but has made many simple mistakes receiving too

Timo style can not follow the Milenial player which is very fast and strong 😥

If Timo loses, it is due to one of the following reasons:
(1) injury
(2) age
(3) ball
(4) opponents using boosted rubbers
It is NEVER EVER due to the opponent being better !
or Timo had one eye closed.
So many unforced errors in the game now due to the crappy polyball and it’s weight.

Boll does NOT lift ball HIGH enough or BARELY, JUST barely to the legal limit height! ONE step JUST below an unsportsmanlike player and TRULY warrants warnings and duct point for NOT lifting ball HIGH Enough when serving! Someone SHOULD convey ITTF for Ball's service, questionable highly, conduct!
