  • In September 2018, I traveled to Santa Cruz to take part in a Qi Gong Teacher Training with Qi Gong Master Lee Holden.
I thought that it would be especially helpful for other yoga teachers to know how compatible Qi Gong training can be with yoga and to learn how to apply some Qi Gong into your yoga practice or classes.
For those who are new to it, Qi means "Energy" and Gong means "cultivation." It is an ancient Chinese practice that helps to create and circulate vital energy. It is similar in some ways to Tai Chi, although there is a significantly shorter learning curve to pick it up and feel the benefits with it, so I find it perfect for beginners.
    In the interview Lee shares:
    - What is Qi Gong?
    - How can it be applied to yoga, meditation, and other systems?
    - What are the main benefits?
    - What is Qi Gong flow?
    - How he became the producer for the "SuperHuman" film coming out soon.
    - How to become "Superhuman".
    - How to use technology to share ancient wisdom.
    - Is a 5,000-year-old practice still relevant today?
    - What is Qi Gong "alchemy"?
    - How does Qi Gong mimic nature?
    - What does it mean to "push the river"?
    - How yoga teachers can offer more to their students.
    - What is the best way to practice with Lee directly?
Lee Holden is an experienced instructor in Qi Gong, meditation, and Dao Yin and has worked to bring the ancient Taoist teachings to western culture. His work has popularized qi gong through books, classes, workshops, video courses, online programs, and PBS programs.
Holden has been acknowledged by the International Chi Gong Association (2009) for his ability to make the esoteric Taoist teachings accessible to modern students without compromising or diluting their essence. He conducts training and certification programs in traditional and medical qi gong and continues to study with qi gong masters in Thailand, Indonesia, Moscow, Japan, and China.
A licensed acupuncturist, Lee Holden practices in Santa Cruz and Los Gatos, California. In addition to his international teaching and private practice, he works as a stress management consultant to corporations, including Apple and 3Com.

Thank you very much for this interview!
i am doing Lee's Qigong since about 10 years, from Germany! First I rent a DVD video from a library. Now I'm doing the exercises every day with Lee in UA-cam or with relaxing music for myself. I am very happy to find this beneficial teaching!
Thank you very much for opening Qigong for my mind Lee!!!

Lee's videos have helped me with energy and relaxation. I move to the videos in the gym, by the dock, in the pool, at the airport, in hotel rooms and more. I 1st took medical qi gong in Gettysburg, PA. This is a great talk. As you learn to interview you might try to not clap, it's distracting to the chat. Thank you for posting this!

Lee's qigong is truthfully the first practice i've been doing with real JOY and LIGHTNESS for about 2 years now... LIVE-SAVING to say the least.

I started Lee's 10 min. morning qi gong (2013), every morning without fail over a year now. He never ages. Now I really see him, still looks great. Thanks Lee.

Qi Gong makes you age in reverse! Good for you to keep up the training with such consistency. That's the secret to success!

I recently finished the Tier 1 Holden Qi Gong Instructor certification. I work as a physical therapist in Portland, OR and run a breath work program using capnography to help people better understand their best breath. I really appreciate the practice of Qi Gong as way to practice that work. Thumbs up to both of you for putting this interview together. Nice work.

Hi David - I actually met you at Sarahjoy Marsh's studio. I was in the 300 hr Yoga Therapy program last year. I saw that you also know Nick Lofree who I met in Santa Cruz at this training. Small world! Maybe there's some room for collaboration!

Fantastic video showcasing Lee's amazing ability to explain Qi Gong in down to earth terms. I am always astounded by his delicacy of expression and explanations that cut right to the heart of our human experience, offering hope where there was none, and a path out of the emotional confusion that surrounds so much of the chatter and chaos of this world. Lee's teachings fill me with hope and are making my life better from the inside out.
