Really enjoy these interviews Ryan, especially the one with your Dad. The backdrop scene behind the tractor and your Dad reminds me of my Grandpa’s farm nearby.
I have learned over the years how similar alot of our stories are. Hard working precocious kids taking on a lot of responsibility. Best line a vocation is who you are not the job you have. Two most miserable year of my life was when I sold cows and equipment and took a third job to finance my young wife's nursing school. Which became her vocation and kept us going when times were lean.
Sorry I am late watching the video. My Dad was trying to get me started in high school and 82-83 was rough and he said he wasn't going to loose anymore money so he went out the grain farming business. We were red guys but we ran a lot of Deere tractors and equipment for others. I'm 10 years older than you and me and my Grandpa had some hogs and beef cattle and I kept growing up farming and I full time farmed till I got married to my first wife and I went to work on the railroad and farming and I still farm mostly hay now days no livestock and I have 4 more years till I can retire from the railroad and I am going back to raising cattle as I will have the time. Thanks so much for sharing your story. Cherish this video. Your Dad was a lot like mine wanting to farm with you as mine with me here in Virginia. Dad helps me sometimes as he enjoys driving the tractors. Hope y'all have a great year Ryan.
Thanks for sharing your family’s history with us. I admire your determination, you’re right, farmers are born to farm, it’s who they are. I truly enjoy your channel, keep it up!
You know it’s funny you got along great with grandpa and you and dad got along rough. Same story with my dad and me. My kids adore dad and we get along now but for a while we sure didn’t. Great story. I enjoyed it.
Thank you so much for making this video, it really hits home for me. I’m the 5th gen to farm too but the “farming gene” skipped a couple generations. Went through a very similar situation as you with my folks, long story short, still farm a little bit, started up a milk hauling business and love to hear the old farmers tell their stories and wish more little guys like us could make it farming a couple hundred acres and some livestock. Thank you so much for what you do!
Videos like this make me want to interview some of the old heads that I know in the trucking industry. Would be neat to document some of that history before its gone. Keep the videos coming!
When your dad talks about his military time there was a big army base at Phu Bai that wast attacked by the Vietnamese during the Tet Offensive in 68, if i remember correctly he said he was there from 69 to 70 however there was alot of fighting that took place in that area
You might say these are tractor stories, but they are so much more. They are priceless people stories. Thanks for making and sharing them!
What a great family video. Thanks
Treasure this video. You get to hear history first hand. Don't ever forget it, because it isn't just history, it's YOUR history! Great video!
This video is a really nice talk between you and your Dad. You are lucky that it is now a recorded entity
Great farming story. I love listening to these stories and talking tractors.

His laugh when you mentioned fair pigs was great. There’s a lot of wisdom in this one. Thank you again for sharing.
