- From humble beginnings, and with the winds of expertise beneath his wings, Jon Stewart became one of the greatest television hosts of all time. Let's dive into both the controversy, the successes, and what makes him so darn appealing.

a man who can cry about the loss of his dog on national tv is a real man to me
You’re goddamn right.
FRRRRRR
One of the things that sets him apart and makes him more relatable is that he reacts to the news with us instead of telling us the news. He lets the clips speak for themselves and then builds his point from them. Everyone else is uses the clips to prove their point.
and tell us his biased propaganda ideas
@@mahaffer71 yeah, how dare a political satirist have a political opinion
@@thompsonnoel Satire as cover for propaganda. You can have political opinion, but when its clear to put an idea and being a hypocrite at the same time. Its can only be propaganda. JS did the same thing as Trump valuing his property at a higher rate than what it was worth.
@@mahaffer71 Trump misled lenders by inflating the property value of his business assets which is fraud. Jon Stewart found a buyer willing to buy a house at a high market value. Property value and market value are completely different things. Then again, It's understandable to have a problem with that but if you do what you have is a problem with capitalism.
That makes you a cool cat!
It's not the same as Trump. Trump overvalued the assets in his property in order to get loans easily approved, things like square footage, even, and then undervalued it when he was reporting for taxes . Jon Stewart simply sold it at a higher value to a private entity who accepted that price. Nothing to do with Trump in the slightest.
This was just lovely. Thank you. Most of us who revere Jon Stewart recognize in him that his intelligence, courage, integrity and humor are special and unmatched. He remains a force for good in our troubled world and we who trust him to tell us the truth are grateful to have him back on the air.
Amen! 👍🏼
Jon Stewart and John Oliver are two of my favorite John's. Oliver cover things you didn't know were such a big issue, and Stewart covers things already being blasted at us. They are both great and touch on important topics but in a way that is funny and makes you think.
John Oliver is an English worm.
The clip where he was talking about his dog really hit me in the feels.
The clip of him pinning that medal hit me, but prob not in the same way. 😕
I’m sitting next to my fur-baby leaking from the eyes as I watched that 🥲
@@tmoney142that’s interesting. Never thought of that. That’s weird, huh?
As an Australian, I rarely saw any of Jon Stewart's Daily show other than a few clips where he confronted the likes of Bill O'Reilly, or later appearances on Colbert. Having seen a few of his recent programs, I have to agree that he's the best TV host I've ever seen. His intelligence and sharp wit is always tempered by humility and compassion, and I think he's a true inspiration to others.
It's said that: "Great leaders are people who don’t seek power but take responsibility because they have the capability and empathy to help others." If Stewart was encouraged to run for President in 2028, he'd A) Make a great president, and B) Avoid any Biden Administration baggage.
commie enabler
Also Australian. Asian, not particularly political but Jon Stewart meant a lot to me growing up and means a lot to me today. Wish America would pick someone like that to be president. He'd be like the best of Bernie Sanders and Obama and deliver his zingers better than Trump.
@@CastorRabbit Our best hope at present is Harris and Walz. Longer term, AOC or Jasmine Crockett would be good in those roles.
@@andrewstrongman305 I don't want Trump to win but in every other appearance other than the debate, Harris has annoyed me for some reason. I think it's her speaking tone. AOC? You were better off with Hillary. Jasmine Crockett? Never heard of her.
Stewart 2032! Let’s let Kamala get a full turn ☺️👍🏼
among his many talents, perhaps the most noteworthy to me is jon stewart's skill as an interviewer. he executes a delicate balance of all the tools in his toolbox -- doggedness, curiosity, clarity, humility, seriousness, and humor -- and does what few interviewers take the time to do: diffuse a defensive subject by asking if they feel his line of inquiry of unfair or misguided, and try to find a place where they can offer insight instead of just empty, safe platitudes. he's the only interviewer i've seen keep obama on his heels, while the whole time never letting the mood get adversarial. we're lucky so much of his work is immortalized on film, so the future may continue to be enlightened by it
As a foreigner, not fluent in english, I never watched US TV show. We don't have them, and I didn't really care about them (not my country, not my culture, you know...)
With what is happening since Trump, and especially with the current presidential campaign, I started to watch everything I could get on UA-cam that talk about that. I started to see old Daily show episodes (with Trevor Noah), and just a few months after that John Stewart came back. He is, by far, my favorite host of those kind of shows.
Many are really biased and act like they're going to give a lesson. It's really annoying when (like me) you try to understand what is happening. And I say this while being against Trump, and still sometimes I feel it's too much. Stewart is fair, honest, professional and also extremely funny, really he is just as perfect as it can be for his job.
I can also see a lot of potential in Jordan Klepper, when he tries to be neutral. His interview to put Trump supporters in their own contradictions are just a jewel ! John Oliver is also good, but not as much as John Stewart.
(Sorry if I made any mistakes, I know it's good enough to be understood, but still)
Your English is WAY better than my ANY other spoken language. It's a wise idea to understand what your possible enemy is saying, especially if it is Donald Trump.
This is the most AI comment I have ever seen. Corngrabulation.
Jon told me everything I need to know a long time ago about ripping apart cable news and being cynical about everything they say. Taught me how to care about fact check and reality versus what the media wants you to know. And unlike what your many people are told, it's not just Fox News, it's all of them
You're right but Fox News would even lie and tell you the sky was purple if it could help the GOP. At least MSNBC, CNN and every other one has at least some morals when it comes to journalism. It's why during presidential elections foreign countries go-to's are usually ABC News and CBS News. Fox News is not even considered as a true news outlet anymore when it comes to politics and CNN has also started to loose their credibility in recent years when they start showing even more clearly what side of the Democratic party the bosses at CNN prefer
Making me want to rewatch old episodes just to learn how he conducts himself so well with different people. Thank you😄
I remember when Craig Kilborn announced that he was leaving the Daily Show, my friends and I in high school were *HIGHLY* skeptical that anyone could fill his shoes...
He (Jon) immediately won us over. Jon Stewert is the man!
John and Conan are two sides of same coin. One is smart funny. Another is complete crazy funny. Both legends. Only late night people who are actually funny. Both need to be saved for eternity.
It's hard to think of the funniest interview Conan ever did but the old one with Tom Petty way back in 1999 still gets me going. "I like your boots. "you want one?" takes it off etc. Who gave it to you? Ah,.... Bruce Springsteen, no I don't remember but it's served me well" well you're going to have to limp off the stage then my friend etc. it was priceless.
Oddly enough, the guy who’s complete crazy funny is the Harvard alum.
It’s like Conan’s personal mission has been to bring Harvard down with his behavior, which makes Stewart’s smartness even better!
Stewart truly is a blessing to humanity, thank you for this excellent piece 👏🏽
I was so glad to hear that he was returning to The Daily Show in time for the presidential election, which like the last one, is (once again) the most important election in our lifetime.
That was really good. Both as a story and as a bit of production. Impressive.
Stewart is like a modern Mark Twain, with his inimitable style and unique wit. I don't know he's the best TV host of all time, but he's definitely in rare air.
ive grown to be more pessimistic about this world and seeing how fucked up it can be. only time i let my guard down and felt calm was when I was watching Jon Stewart, I genuinely can relate to him and love him for that. I hope he can reach out to my generation more so and guide those who watch him to have a better outlook in this crazy landscape we live in.
Maybe not a better outlook, but happy to see that there is someone out there that genuinely understands the struggle that isn't just out for ratings, which has a soothing effect.
When there's a Renzy video, I click. "If I fits, I sits".
I would love to see a "part two" of this, that goes more in-depth about how he's not only basically made the landscape of political satire, but also made a great impact on what's followed on the foundation he's laid, going further in on what you touched slightly here, with the like of Carrell, Colbert and especially Olliver, who I think has made the most success and kept on this track, albeit in his very own style.
Great work as always.
The goat is fairly accurate thank you. He also makes you safe so you can relax. You're not 💔 broken. This is some scary crazy shit. And I've heard john say something similar himself. People just want truth without agenda without strings. I'm paraphrasing. Add to that a mischevious twinkle and your feet don't touch the ground. Irresistible. What a guy. What a human.❤hi from kayl in nz.
Couldn't have said it better myself. He is the GOAT.
After 9/11 I was searching for so many answers. He provided all of them. I am proud to say he has influenced my ideology.
Brother you need more subscribers this was phenomenal
thank you! :D
He has the right number of subs for now. His growth is organic. There are channels with millions of subs averaging 10k views with 100 likes. When his time comes his audience will find him like me from East Africa.
John Stewart is someone I have been following almost my entire life! And this video was probably the best tribute video I’ve ever seen! not just about John Stewart but in general. This is probably one of the best most well done videos on UA-cam! Fantastic job by the creator! Fantastic! Keep up the good work friend
He is genuine, Fiercely intelligent, and caring.
from about 2001 as a Brit The Daily show was my source for news of what was going on in america.
i recently lost my dog of old age, and seeing that clip of him talking about his dog really really impacted me just now
🙏🏼
I loved watching daily show and Colbert report when I was in high school. My god I can’t believe how long ago that’s been. Glad Jon is still here and still awesome.
This was just brilliant. Edited, written, and presented. Side note, while John has the delivery, credit should also go to their writers as well 😊
Jon always credits his people (employees, 9/11 workers, veterans)!
His common sense, his kindness, his sincerity, his honesty, his humility, his humor, his honorability. He's how you want to be, how you wish others would be, for themselves and to others. Like, if this was the moral and behavioural norm, we would have so much less madness and suffering. And because Jon exists, that reality seems possible. For me that's also part of it.
I was too young during the first 16 years of his show but he came back around the time i started watching the news and there's something so authentic about him, and you can feel he cares. just makes the news a lot more palatable.
Can't tell you how refreshing it is to watch a positive video. This is the second one of yours in a row and I am impressed. Great job. Keep them coming.
Wow. Great video. Solid writing.
I remember thinking back in '98, "Wait, Craig is leaving the Daily Show??? How will they replace him....?"
I also remember sitting in a classroom on 27th street in nyc and seeing the old Jon Stewart banner from his first show on a balcony with other studio debris.
One of my favorite DS jokes got cut off in the video.
"Dick Cheney's hunting partner and best friend....seasoned within an inch of his life."
Jon Stewart is one of the finest men walking the earth.
That was such a cool vivid image of the early days you painted. He must’ve thought it was gonna get cancelled asap 😭
@@Renzy_YT I also remember he had been offered a much bigger gig hosting a show out in LA but turned it down bc he didn't want to leave nyc.
It was a shock to hear such a different pov, that he didn't just follow the fame and money, but instead chose 'basic cable'...and full creative control.
The Wayne's World of politics.
His best Alumni is absolutely John Oliver. The two are very much on that same playing field of keeping it straight when discussing nuanced topics but inject enough comedy to make you feel more optimistic about the terror you’re having to listen to.
John however I do think has an unmatched charisma. Where his badshit energy matches the badshit thing he’s talking about. That’s what makes him enduring and I think the reason why the Daily show continues to struggle to find a future without him is fundementally because they want to look for another John, and that person doesn’t exist. I would 100% not be surprised if they offer him the job again. He does well on TV, and online too. The man truly is unmatched in his craft.
P.S - Samantha Bee was also very good and deserved better.
And Jon is the best comedian inspired by George Carlin who’s the GOAT.
I agree! And I think Larry Wilmore, too, did a fantastic job. I was so pissed when his show got cancelled.
HE CARES. That’s what different about him. 🥰 we are so lucky to have him helping us to keep our sanity during this 2024 election
He’s willing to stand up for the vulnerable and call out the bullies who target them. He calls out nonsense spin and obvious lies that cause harm
I think a good person to do one of these on would be Norm Macdonald. I've been looking through his stuff, and I see this real sweet guy who hid his intelligence greatly to let others shine and have a good time. It also worked out that you showed Norm briefly in this.
He's a priority in the stack of topics I wanna do. I'm sure I'll get there in due time but I don't wanna do a topic that's unanimously loved/praised at a scale like Norm's without it being a longer video, and I usually do 15min+ once every few videos to avoid topic fatigue/phoning it in. It'll happen forsure tho!
@Renzy_YT I'm glad to hear that. Can't wait for. Meanwhile, I'll just have to keep up with whatever projects you post in the future. It's really great stuff.
I mean the joke he made about the Brandon Teena and the fact he sexually harassed and assaulted women shows he wasn’t that sweet, please discuss his whole legacy not just him being a comedic darling
@audramcdonaldapologist3676 I don't think you understand his full life there. You mention his comedy, which was always harsh and meant to get the crowd uncomfortable. It was meant to be entertainment. It has absolutely no correlation to his actual character. You wouldn't say an actor is a terrible person if their on-screen character beat someone in the movie. It is the same for comedy. When they're doing their acts, they are more so putting on a character. Bo Burnam is a great example, as throughout some of his earlier shows, he would have pre-recorded audio that he would have conversations with as though it was a character of his show. You can't judge a comedian off of their jokes. Jokes will never truly represent them. That's why when I say he's a nice person, it's because what I have heard people say about him when he is not putting on a performance. Andy Reichert had a great instance of this where Norm talked to Andy's sister an hour and a half before a show because she was nervous and distraught in life. He even said that his sister felt comforted by Norm as he was going in depth in their conversation and trying to help her. So yes, despite his jokes like the one on Teena, I would say he was a sweet and nice guy.
@@Rking534Yeah, I never get that people conflate a performance with the performer. A good example not perhaps that well known in the US is the actor David Tennant (Dr. Who is a UK institution) who is famous for playing villains but in real life incredibly generous and agreeable and ... has a true moral compass. Also happens to be, according to me, a great stage actor who knew he was going to give up his privacy when in that context he became really well known in Britain, wouldn't talk about his family for years until recently, went into therapy for anxiety. He said I just think there's a lack of decency and kindness in the world and if I had any advice to give anyone it would be show up, learn your lines and don't be a jerk. Works for me.
Man, you brought me to tears! In a good way 🥲👍🏼 LOVE LOVE LOVE me some Jon Stewart!! Thank God for him, God bless!
Literally the first video I’ve ever seen from you and you have me crying like a baby. Well done my friend
Jon is EXTREMELY POLITICAL in a way where he believes every single thing he says and stands for, he does the work to fight for it, and it comes from a place of deep empathy and care for his fellow human beings. It seems almost antithetical to his role as a "Hollywood" talk show host, but it's something people value. He does not prevaricate, he does not hide from criticism and he does not stand by hypocrisy. He does not think politics is about standing with one party and staying there, but with the consistent and active work for the sake of those who need it most. It's why he isn't afraid of criticizing people he ostensibly shares politics with, because his principles matter more than teams or parties, and those he criticizes are more likely to have betrayed those principles and politics before he did.
This was wonderful to watch. ❤ Thank you for that, I needed a smile today. Well done 😊
i got emotional a couple of times
im not american im an african arab muslim and i love this man and his ability to bring ppl together for the better
im also a cat mom and the part about his dog got me in tears...
there will never be another jon stewart
I am 21 years old this year, I have never heard of this "Jon Stewart" until this year, where his 2024 political coverage popped up in my UA-cam feed.
I can confirm that Stewert isnt simply capitalizing on nostalgia or a loyal fanbase, he genuinely does have a way of connecting to audiences that is exemplary and unique.
The fact he understands the average American "can't take it anymore" 😂that's it for me, thats why he's so relatable, he just gets it
This was an incredibly well made video. The music, the pacing, the voice, and the choice of clips were all perfect. True kudos man, amazing work
Another great video man!
Love the longer videos, keep it up 🔥
Thank you for posting this. John Stewart is selfless and seemingly without ego. He's brave and capable enough to speak truth to power. John's the type that would never play the "party line" and lie to people knowingly. As people on Fox do all day and all night. We need more John Stewart's!
His speech to Congress with "do your job" hits me every time. The dignity of his rage and sorrow is obvious. Also why he was and is so good. He believes in what he says and has an impeccable moral compass
He is that good.
I missed him like I missed the young man I was when I first saw him.
The most trusted person, and the best journalist, in America. One of the greatest Americans of all time. Deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize.
You made me shed some tears, god damn.
Phenomenal video.
BRO WHAT you should have WAY more subscribers, Im bingeing all of your videos… these are top tier
in a video about Jon Stewart, hearing Alan Alda's voice was something that i was not expecting
Wonderful presentation worthy of him. Thank you.
Jon Stewart had been a legend, but upon his return he became an almost greater legend than before.
I love that Bill O'Riley thinks that he's John's equal. You can't compete with a guy who's playing a different game. Should have run for president
Never heard anyone say bill Maher name like that
Yeah; there’s usually a prefix of an exasperated groan…
i never really knew who jon stewart was before this, but now i love him
Just been recently rewatching his stuff after I heard that he was coming back for a little while. Gotta say, he is exactly what America needs right now.
Jon Stewart is a bad ass!!!! Hell yea! Respect ✊🏼
The only news host I watch!
Long live John Stewart!
I love that man with all my heart. Great video, thank you
Jon Stewart was a constant that slowly but surely made me feel (rightly or wrongly) that if I missed reading the news for a day or so, I’d find out the most important things when his show aired. Did I believe he is/was a legend?! Oh so very much!! Do I miss the back and forth of the Daily Show to the Colbert Report? Ditto. But time goes by & we not only got Jon on serious issues again for a few yrs before he came back on Mondays, we got Samantha Bee’s show, Stephen Colbert’s late night show (where he no longer has an alter ego), John Oliver’s Late Night Tonight show that is just AMAZING!! We had Trevor Noah for 6 (?) yrs, I believe, who was fantastic as a replacement for Jon but really, I don’t see anybody really “replacing” him in my head. Jordan Klepper’s pieces from the Trump rallies in particular have been unbelievably great & Desi Lydic does a phenomenal job for all hosts that are taking turns right now. There are so many classic pieces from Jon’s days: his pizza rant; his discussion of climate change w the ridiculous Congressional group that needed remedial info at his desk; his piece about how there are so many things CNN will get back to on their 24/7 network (one of my all time favorites); his piece on racial discourse; his numerous parodies of Glenn Beck that were spot on; his debates w Bill O’Reilly that I always felt he won; his takedown of Crossfire which included his casual mention that Tucker Carlson was 35 yrs old and wearing a bow tie; his response to the 9/11 attack; his never- ending fight for the first responders to get health benefits from Congress. Oh yes, and his piece about how Mark Sanford should shut up (God killed Michael Jackson and you are still calling press conferences!!) I will forever love him. He remains the very best!! 🥰
This TV producer agrees! 👌🏼 video btw!
I'm supposed to be writing a report right now. Instead, I'm binge-watching your channel, Ren. I haven't seen half of these shows and the ones I could see, I wasn't very interested in (eg Step-Brothers). You do a great job dissecting what is going on whether it's a movie, a television show, an actor or a personality. I can't help but to keep watching. Great work. I don't understand why you haven't got donkey-loads of viewers. I'm sure you will eventually.
What an awesome comment, thanks for watching!!
Get that report done, the channel will be here :D
Jon Stewart is that good. I am so glad he’s back. Welcome back Jon Stewart!
That was awesome - great job putting it together. He's one of a kind. No getting around it.
I appreciate these videos that appreciate people who should be appreciated. Good going sir.
What he did this November 5th should be put in history books. Before anyone spoke before the nation to help, HE WAS THE VOICE PEOPLE HEARD.
This man helped raise me through the TV and provided a way of looking at the world that has guided me well beyond the content he covered. If there was ever someone I could say I look up to, it's John Stewart. The most impactful person in my life until my son was born. When my stepfather was watching O,Riley or Hannity, or the other natzi, John was putting things in context and being a guiding hand through the noise.
You can't fake integrity and a serious passion for justice that Jon has. It's irreplaceable.
Got damn I'm 33 and I feel like I needed my parents to sign a permission slip for me to go on this feels trip
Beautifully edited video. You've earned a new subscription.
I can't tell what breaks my heart more... Dipper, or the 2010 - 2015 pictures of the first responders. 💔💔
Thank you so much for level headed and generally positive content. So many videos out there now farming negativity for clicks, it’s kind of taken over commentary UA-cam. But your videos manage to capture the same niche but in a fresh way that doesn’t leave me feeling like my brain rotted lol. I haven’t watched too many but the videos of yours I’ve watched I feel they left more of an imprint on me than the typical negative skewed ones.
One of the nicest comments yet, thank you for the kindness and support!
soon enough your channel will be up in the hundred-thousands subscriber count. high quality videos every time, keep up the good work
thank you for the kind words! I'll do my best brotha
Hes also possibly THE only left wing comedian that is respected by the right wing media. Not loved......but respected.
Other then that he is very intelligent and very kind at the same time. He is constantly making fun of himself in his delivery with awkward pauses and silly ad lips. But most importantly he showed true genuine emotion on several occasions such as 9/11. People remember that
“Tipper”….I am ruined
I cried like the whole video
another near 20 minutes of a video that is definately worth getting an angry red number in a bell in the top right of my screen. Average length and quality both keep increasing. Keep it up my dude
The title of this made me worry we lost Jon.
fantastic video.
I adore John and Conan O'Brien and I think it's because if a shared trait they possess: authenticity. For John, it was his emotional truth (I know that's a loaded term but just go with it) and Conan his genuine kindness. Add to that their quick minds able to pick out obsurdities expeditiously. They had very different shows back in the early 2000s when I discovered them, but you felt like you were being entertained by a friend, not an entertainer.
What do you mean „we got used to him“? I started watching the Daily Show in 2006 and it was my window into US politics & culture and I watched him religiously. When he held the Rally to Restore Sanity in 2010 I flew to DC for the weekend to participate. As a random German guy who simply adored Jon. One of the most unreasonable and awesome things I did in my 20s. So glad he‘s back 🥹
It’s so goofy that they think he doesn’t have an audience since he attacks both major parties. What do they think Gen-z listens to? The youngest generations equally hate both parties & it’s rare to find an show that isn’t afraid to be honest abt both sides
Trump is in a whole other category of con, grifting, stealing, lying rape and hate, then Any President in the history of the United States
John Stewart is just that GOOD! He is a legend. Great video.
What it all comes down to a sincerity....... Like when you hear a wonderful song that was both written and performed by someone who deeply felt and believed in the lyrics, that is how Jon Stewart comes across while trying to impart sense to the senseless American masses.
Pleading Sincerity.
I didn’t watch the Daily Show until after his return, so it definitely isn’t just nostalgia, or a loyal audience. He really is that good.
I also think releasing full segments of the show on UA-cam helped with their views.
Jon Stewart is one of my favorite public figures ever and I'm not even American. He brings such an important reasonable smart and cultured voice to mainstream television and has consistently proven that he is a good guy doing good work. And of course never fails to be incredibly hilarious ! I wish he could know how much he is loved and appreciated globally.
John Stewart is, and will always be the best. No question.
Thank you for making this
...Jon Stewart was fortunate to have Tipper, we were fortunate enough to have Jon Stewart.
How do you create and release quality content so quickly? Truly impressive!
He’s just one of the best! He’s a great guy, he’s smart as hell, he can interview anyone, and he DOES things that he believes in. He’s just a great person!
My parents watched Colbert and Jon Stewart when I was too young to know what they were talking about. As a kid, I liked Colbert because I found his delivery funny. As an adult, I find Jon to be absolutely remarkable and I'm probably a more avid viewer than my parents are now.
Also we're Australian, I don't really know why my parents watched these shows
there are good people in Jon's space ( namely the others on daily show, Desi is pretty good) but no one other than the great Norm McDonald has the Charisma and bi partisan respect, that Jon brings in
The only problem with Jon Stewart, is that I want to see more of him doing the news and the interviews. He has been on fire since he came back, definitely taking a little something from his Apple TV show.
He is the best in so many ways. I really missed him and so happy he is back.
Him and Conan have always been my favorites.
Renzy.... 🙌
You never fail.
Without a doubt, he is a unique, talented and inimitable Person. No one can replace him. I'm glad he got into the Daily Show for presidential race at least once a week to support Kamala Harris. He is our treasure, our national pride.
Thank god.
I love Jon with all my heart and it wasn't until I was an adult that I realized what a great gem he was then, and I cherish Mondays now because of him. But to me, he will always be second to Craig Ferguson.
There will be. Because he's inspired so many
I think a good example is John Oliver. His style is very different but he works hard on using his platform to bring forward issues that the everyday people wouldn't think about. There is a reason "the john oliver effect" is a thing now.
His greatest talent is inspiring others.
Look at all the BIG talents that catapulted their careers on his show.
AND they genuinely LOVE him. That is the respect I have.
