Inspired by the Chautauqua adult education movement, UniverCity refers to a series of multi-day cultural programs planned by Ball State University for the benefit of the Ball State and Muncie communities that began in 1988 and occurred again in 1990, 1992, 2000, and 2002. Events included talks and lectures given by scholars, artists, advocates, and other speakers as well as artistic performances, cultural demonstrations, and panel discussions and were held both on and off campus. Themes for the five UniverCity celebrations were "An Agenda for a Living Planet," "Uncommon Ground," "Touching Home," "Time to Time," and "Celebrate Community" respectively.

Amazing to see. Nobody like Reed - deep respect and recall for the way things were, musical and otherwise. Appreciated!

don anderson Don, your name is on Reed Martin’s 1998 banjo CD as having done the recording.I’ve been visiting Reed periodically to play the banjo together with him. Although Reed’s final CD contains 37 songs, I’ve read that he actually performed around 90 that were recorded. I’d really like to talk to you about that recording session. Could you shoot me an email at banjoplayer100@gmail.com?
      Thanks

So rare to find a useful banjo lesson on UA-cam. Thanks for the upload and special thanks to Reed for the lesson.

One winter quite a few years ago, I broke my leg early in the ski season. I was out for the season. I bought a banjo, and was gifted Reed's 'Old Time Banjo' CD. His home phone number was on the back cover. I called him. Reed not only took my call, but shared more than any beginner/ stranger deserved, including mailing me his personal CD collection of favorites (at his cost), sharing many technique tips to get me started, and even a follow up phone call or two. One was a voice message (live) recording of a tune I had asked about. Forever grateful, I'm lucky (We're lucky) to have a person like Reed in our midst. Oh yeah, inspirational, generous, and entertaining too!
Never met the man in person, but this video almost gives the sense I've known him since I was a kid. Thanks and Thanks.

This is amazing to listen to being from near Bloomington and hearing the living history he has accounts of! I’m so grateful to hear these stories that would otherwise be lost ❤
