The ONLY bad part about a Hobo Shoestring video adventure is when the video ends. You inspire so many people, including kids. You are a gift to this community your legacy lives on. Thank you 🇺🇲🛤
In the sweet bye and bye you're gonna find Shoestring waiting for the Golden train . I'm going to miss you my friend. RIP Mark. See you there someday. 😊
Hi Shoestring ,world famous Hobo ,there is not one bit of ugliness in you brother quite the opposite you bring a ray of happiness and hope into mine and probably a lot of other peoples lives 🇦🇺👍
Shoestring, I hope you know how much value and joy you bring to so very many people. We all ride the rails vicariously through your travels. Stay safe brother. Blessings from Oklahoma P.S Happy 6th Birthday Luke!!!
I have that pack. It is the Marine ILBE (Improved Load Bearing Equipment) Gen 2. Best way to tell between gen 2 and 1 is the tan padding vs the black padding for gen 1. Its designed by Arcteryx and mafuctured by Proper. There is an assault pack that goes with it and clips on the back. There is a corpsman version as well which is even bigger and even a predecessor that is huge and are pictured to be on donkeys when the "horse soldiers" went into Afghanistan. The ILBE didn't last long though, as the design was before the next round of body armor and the pack didn't ride well with the plate carriers and were soon replaced with the FILBE pack.
I'm probably subscribed to about 500 channels here on youtube, i get more excited to get a new video notification from Shoestring than i do any of the rest of them
i never ran across him and this is my first shoetring vid just today but i still get a little choked up. not too much but still. i think its bc i can hear the good hard truth in his voice. and you dont hear it too often
Glad to see you back on and taking it easy out there on the tracks and seeing the wheels going over the tracks and the boards were moving, another great video just be careful and have fun seeing the country, Thank You very much Shoestring.👋🤠✌️ 🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🇺🇲💨
Shoestring sure does know his Rail Lines, he's a wealth of knowledge.. Your a great American brother Shoestring an Old School Gem.. Safe Travels brother
Hey Shoestring, I live between Sandpoint and Bonners Ferry in a town called Naples. Glad to see you made it this way. It’s Going to start getting colder and wetter at night in a hurry. If you head north and start camping be aware of grizzly bears and moose. Stay safe
I love it when Sir Shoestring starts off trackside at camp.. I haven't watched this yet tho looking forward to it. I'm out western NSW in Australia looking at railways and 'Grainers' big arse menacing looking American Pride vehicles seem to be on the rise out here with RAM trucks on the increase. I think they are sold here now.. I'm starting to monologue..
At the 1:30 mark, when you point the camera up, the draw there. My wife's grandparents owned most all of that land. Her Grandpa was the one who would break the Budweiser Clydesdales that you would see on tv. Another cool thing about Bonners Ferry. That's where a lot of the hops are grown for beer as well, but that's on the other side of town, and my best friend is the head mechanic for all the equipment. It's crazy to see on your video a place that I'm frequently at. I hope you enjoyed it there.
I got cancer surgery in my leg end of this month at Shands in Gainesville Florida, but soon as I recover I'm heading out too. I just ordered more 96 gallon trash bags. They're the best hot weather bivy bag there is. You can even ride a nice flat lip porch grainer out of town looking like trash bags left on deck. ✌️
Pinched nerve is nothing to joke with. I’m recovering from surgery back in May. Docs removed a piece of bone that was putting pressure on the nerves. Got titanium rods and screws in my neck. Physical therapy daily resistance training etc. So far so good. The last thing to return to normal is my hands. Still have pin and needles and my grip is back 100%. Best thing about my surgery? I quit smoking! Been a smoker since 1972. Can’t smoke because the nicotine can cause a reaction that slows down the recovery process. Love the videos. Looking like you’re going hit 200k subscribers soon 👍🏻
I'm tramping to cancer surgery in Gainesville Florida end of this month. Tumor trying to grow under a siatic nerve. You rite, nerve pain will make you want to die. But some of the drugs make you the living dead too. Make you walk rite into fire without a thought.. Best of wishes, keep living 👍
Hey Shoestring. So glad you made it through my hometown. I've lived here most of my life and always heard that familiar "duh duh duh duh" sound echoing across town. I knew it was the train passing over something and making noise, but I never knew exactly where. I just learned today that it's because of the four-way you talk about at 7:40. This is a nostalgic sound of my childhood. Thanks for solving the mystery. I always love watching your travels. Keep on keepin' on.
Standpoint is a spectacular location and I have good memories of the place from years ago. Used to run the old highway bridge for daily PT-what a picture perfect Lake Pend Oreille. Stay safe.
Hey man thanks for showing that diamond up close. I have seen them on google maps satellite view but never up close. Wondered how they would pull it off but the actually cut grooves in the steel. Makes total sense now. As always great video.
Lake Pend Oreille is Idaho’s biggest, at 43 miles long with 111 miles of shoreline. It’s also the deepest (at 1,158 feet deep, there are only four deeper lakes in the nation). Dug out by Ice Age glaciers and located amid three major frontal ranges of the northern Rocky Mountains.
Great to see another video. You live the life so many of us dream of. Although I do occasionally take a short ride life does not allow me to spend much time on the rails. Thank you for giving me the knowledge to be able to do this.
0:55 Looks like a white birch to me. 18:00 My bag is very similar to that and I added on to it. Spent $85 brand new all-in. Amazing what you can find now days.
I like how you show everyone the little things we have to do to survive like the Water Key to get a good bird bath going. You be good there Shoe my boy! Keep them rails hot & ride'n'em a whole lot! Keep on truck'n forth!
Great video Shoestring! I've had trouble with my right hand not working right for quite some time, mine is pinched nerves in the neck, can't hardly even sign my name anymore, I hate that feeling, hope yours don't flare up on you alot! Safe travels out there and Happy Rails!👍 And Happy Birthday to Luke!🥳
I worked as a ballast cleaner operator, those cross tracks, man they had to be dug by hand. It always and i mean always the hottest of days. But it was the 80s and working the tracks was the best job ive ever had.
Des Moines Iowa here. Moved here from Colorado not all that long ago. Lived close to Stobe's neighborhood back there, RIP. I see you sometimes go through that Boone Iowa east west line back in the day. I know alot about Wyoming which I used to see alot of in your older vids @HoboShoestring Stay safe and Godspeed brother 👍🐕🙂👍
you said it minnihopeless. love it. you got great weather shoestring. enjoy this cuz we sure are. and thanks much. head shower lookt refreshing. god be wit cha,,,
You've inspired me Shoestring. I ain't riding the rails, but I am going nomadic in my vehicle. Time to live a little, and branch out from the white picket fence .Thanks Shoestring and God bless!
Sorry to hear about your shoulder. I have almost the exact same problem and I decided to try stretching by finding something to grab on to and, and then leaning away using my body weight to apply pulling pressure straight out to the side. Sort of the same direction and motion you would use to set a dislocated shoulder. I do that when I get up and before I go to bed, just for about 2 minutes. If it starts to hurt or tingle anywhere I just ease up a little. It's been getting better for me every day.
Thanks for another great video Shoestring !! Ride that train 'till it run out of track, can't wait for the riding video and scenery it will bring us. Hope the arm gets better:) 8/2/2024 RIP Shoestring........Thanks for all you shared with us.......Bye.
That was sure funny you taking a shower for your beer sorry beard. One gallon idea in the sun , I should try that around the house. I fell off a ladder and september’s that month for me. .see if I heal ! You know you’re bless’d when you have one good side to lay on. Things will change forget it and see what’s happening later ‘cause if it’s real bad it will change. Hap birthday, Luke you’ve got the greatest best friend ! That pound sign like shape of the cross tracks, was sure noisy. Smart water is the water you have in your possession, take care shoe string
I'm allergic to ragweed too. Some fool next door where I use to live planted it Infront of their house. I told them I was allergic to it and they so it's so pretty when it turns. I almost snapped that jerks neck. I said so you like planting weeds around your house? She said it is not it's shrubs lol. I went to a town meeting and the next day they told her to pull it up not cut it pull it. Sometimes people are so uncaring and stupid. Love ya ShoeString stay well and safe my friend.
That’s always a strange feeling riding through that refueling facility in Hauser. Spokane is where I seem to have issues, dang it! Thanks for the video.
Great video Brother. I was looking closely at the crossover and I was surprised to see all of the loose bolts. Of course you cannot report it because they will get you for trespassing. But that seems like it has a big potential for being a site for an derailment. I guess that when the railroad workers watch your video, they will see that it needs some attention. Obviously the scenery is amazing and your knowledge is always on point. The golfers didn't seem to mind you being on property and making a video. Here's some interesting history. The locomotive that was parked there is a GP-39-2. Not so special so far right. Well it was originally built for the Missouri Kansas Texas (MKT) as part of a 3 locomotive purchase. They were GP#'s 1210-1212 however the MKT numbered them 361-363. All three were built and delivered on April of 1984. Before UP reset it's locomotive numbering scheme, they were originally UP#'s 2360-2362. According to the UP roster information that I could find. The MKT purchased a total of 6 of the GP-39-2's and 3 GP-39N's in April of 1984. I was not able to find any information on the GP-39N locomotives or how they differed from the other GP-39 loco's. Looking forward to seeing some daytime riding and hearing some more knowledge. Stay safe and "Drink Water."
I got a good chuckle as soon as this video started. The place where you were sleeping is the exact same spot I was at with a railfan buddy of mine back in late June. Perhaps one day I'll luck out and see you sometime.
Stay safe those trains are dangerous! I remember when I was 18 catching a freight train to Kalamath falls Oregon was a crazy adventure we got on a rear engine!
Hello Shoestring, I'm sure you must have been through here numerous times, but I don't recall you ever mentioning New Orleans. We would love to see you over here. a lot of people who ride the rails stop here and hang out. I'm sure you would get red carpet treatment from everybody. I live next door to the St. Louis cathedral in the French Quarter and could put you up if you wish. Give a holler, and be safe out there...
You've got to love hearing diamonds getting pounded by a freight, nice shot too, an adventure either way even if You didn't catch out yet, entertaining and always interesting watching Your video's Man. Hope Luke had a great Birthday and always like seeing those locomotives moving tonnage!🛤🚂
First RR tracks that crosses each other. Very cool!! I can listen to that track sound all day long! I live right along the CSX tracks, one mile from the Ohio/Pa line. We have trains constantly

OH WOW ... my Dad who is now passed away and lived very near Sandpoint, lived in Sagle, ID maybe 10 - 12 minutes away I think. He had a resturant there in Sandpoint for a very long time called "The Hydra." It was sold a year or two after his death. I believe it's still in operation and open in 2023. Not sure. Beautiful state and I was amazed at the age of 21 back in 1990 how beautiful that area was. Very beautiful.
Keep on chugging the rails of heaven beloved brother
Godspeed Mr. Nichols, Thank you for all you gave, and have given.. You will be missed..✌

OH WOW ... my Dad who is now passed away and lived very near Sandpoint, lived in Sagle, ID maybe 10 - 12 minutes away I think.
One of your fans put it succinctly Shoesting. We sit here in front of the computer screen and live vicariously through you. Be safe
