Great interview. Your mom is lovely. I had a real culture shock coming to the US as a student. Gained 15lbs (freshman 15) and never could get them off.
Thank you for sharing! Your moms experiences made me laugh out loud. I can see how the portions here in the US are and how they are different. It is nice to see your mom in this video. I hope you two can make more and show what kinds of foods she went back to making when she realized that the American way of eating wasn't ideal.
You two are so cute. I still don't understand why I was raised like we were French. Both my Grandparents are gone now, but my Grandpa was Finish. I think my Grandma may have been French but both of them American and lived in the US their whole life. Now this was way back in the 70's-80's. I do feel things in general were better as far as everyone eating together as a family. Really enjoyed this video.😊💝💝
Yes, I remember when I went to New York for a city break and we went to a famous cheesecake factory. The piece of cheesecake that we had to share lasted 4 days!
This was wonderful! I loved hearing it in French, and the stories were so interesting and true. We could learn a lot from other cultures if we pay attention. I hope your video inspires everyone. It certainly inspired me. Thank you so much for making it. 💗
Loved this video! As an American, 33 years old, I’ve never eaten dinner at 5-6, or really known anyone who has, this wouldn’t even be enough time to cook dinner since many of us don’t get off work until that time. In our house and growing up, we would do the same as you..a snack after work and then dinner at 7-8. Thank you, mom, for sharing your experience! I hope the American fast food culture isn’t invading oversees too bad 😢 it’s horrible, hence the obesity epidemic here. I live in a rural town and it’s honestly scary, maybe 1 of 50 people is a healthy weight, very sad, it almost looks like zombies walking around because everyone’s is having to sort of waddle with amount of weight on their knees. I hope you’re videos continue to reach far and wide!
Thanks to this video (the bit about the French schedule of meals), I've started making it a point of having a proper "goûter" between 4 and 5 in the afternoon, which has allowed me to delay my dinner until 7 in the evening, and presto, just like that, all my problems are now solved! I am no longer rushing home after work because I'm starving, I am taking my time to prepare dinner, and most importantly, I am better able to resist the late evening snacks being had around me: ice cream, cookies, crackers, etc. The goûter has been a total game changer! I feel like I have finally gotten it right! I have always eaten very healthily; balanced meals and unprocessed, whole foods were nothing new. But the eating schedule is! I think the main reason we end up having early dinners in North America is that our lunches are simply not substantial enough, so that both parents and children are literally starving by 5 pm and a goûter would not cut it. Having a stiff breakfast (2 fruits, 1 hefty portion of oats or bran cereal with a cup of milk or soy milk) and a complete lunch (fish or chicken, an egg, generous vegetables, carbs, a fruit) and having a goûter (a latte and a piece of toast with jam), will ensure that you will not ever be starving and will be able to enjoy your lighter dinner later in the evening, bypassing the snacks. - - I wish you could make a video with your mom on the topic of the goûter: if you have it, when you have it, what you have, how often, , etc :) Bonne continuation.
I find all your videos so interesting! I love all things French - and your channel is another one of those things!I grew up eating around 6pm and still eat dinner around that time. I rarely want snacks after dinner and really don't feel hungry except for maybe some chocolate. My husband has ice cream every night around 10pm, but that is the only snack he has. I think we both try to eat a lot of veggies and fruits and not eat between meals. We always eat together - and especially when my daughter was small. It is so important to eat together as a family.
Lovely video! So if you finish your dinner around 9pm...what time do you go to bed? Just wondering as it is quite late into the night. Also do you tend to have a later breakfast?
I found it so comforting that your mom said she could cook the French way while purchasing from American super markets! Do you, or your mom, have any cookbook/website recommendations for vegetarian food the French way?
Ha my dad has the same story about the pancake butter except he thought it was whipped cream and he stuck the whole glob in his mouth!! 😂 we are from canada though so you wouldn’t think it would be that different but it really is, such huge portions! (And amounts of butter lol)
My husband and I recently went for ice cream. When I saw the size of my cup, I was stunned and my jaw dropped, so much that the ice cream shop worker laughed at me. Thankfully we lived nearby and could take the remainder home. I had ice cream for days!
I love listening to French people speak. Such is so melodic, so lyrical. And, although I think I can understand French middling well, I remain thankful for the subtitles. 😊
I love these videos with your mother - so great - thank you! Growing up as an American we would snack after school but that would usually be something healthy and dinner was at 7 -7:30 depending when my Dad came home and we had home cooked meals and sat down for supper - my dad was from Kansas and dinner was called Supper - and we sat down and ate as a family - and we all ate the same thing - my mom is an excellent cook - and we were all lean growing up - we had pizza and junk food on occasion but my mom took good care of us and her food was always the best. I am always surprised to hear that other families don't sit down to dinner together and eat different things - that is just strange to me and I wouldn't associate that with American Culture - Americans at least when I was growing up - everyone would have dinner with their family - dinner was so important during the weekday we would talk about our day and enjoy delicious food - we really loved each others company - I have great childhood memories of having dinners with family - its important to spend time as a family together without cell phones and distractions
I’m born and raised in Canada but so many times people would harass me about not eating much when doing out. The really sad reality is I was eating a serving size and not finished the rest because the portions are ridiculous. It’s sad that it is seen as strange when in fact the strange thing in America is the portion. Also it’s so wasteful. 😢I never finish a plate when going out. It’s too much.
@@Edukalebylucie LOL It is a turkey stuffed into a deboned duck stuffed into a deboned chicken and it is intense. My family made them a few times when I was a kid.
Wonderful to have your mom join you. Your mom is correct in her observation. It's too bad there are so many Americans that eat so unhealthy. May I ask where you lived when you were in the US?
What a lovely video thank you!! Its too bad Americans don’t sit around the table and have a balanced family meal, like the French. This contributes to alot of problems with children.
Great interview. Your mom is lovely. I had a real culture shock coming to the US as a student. Gained 15lbs (freshman 15) and never could get them off.
Glad you enjoyed and yeah, quite the culture shock!

Glad you enjoyed it and yes, that's a great idea!
As an American I still have questions on how/why our portions are big 💀🤣
Hahaha good to see it's a universal thing 😂
So nice to hear you speaking in French 😊
I love your Mom and her perspective!

I really enjoyed this video. Your mom's stories were so funny and cute. She's such a sweetheart 🥰 I'm also glad you spoke French for this video 🤗
Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed it!!
She was referring to the size of US chicken and Turkeys and said that they will not fit in French oven.
And the enormous potions in restaurants.
Thank You Gals. It shows that beauty and sweet disposition run in Your family. Cheers from Poland 😍
Thank you!!

Loved this video! Thank you. It helps me remember why I want to emulate the French way of eating into my family life.

Aww thank you

I was stunned by all the processed foods in the US. Here in Europe, we pretty much make each meal from scratch.
merci pour cette vidéo en français xo

Most French people I know go to bed around 11 PM, and have breakfast around 7 PM!

c'est antinomique ^^

Merci! Ià trying to improve my french so this was a lovely surprise. I was surprised how much I picked up.
That's awesome, hope it was helpful!

Wish there would of been English subtitles because I love when you and your mom do vids together!! ❤️
There are, just hit the “CC” button at the top of the video (it may be at the bottom if you’re watching from a computer)
@JenFilipTattoo Awesome! That's great didn't know that could be done..Thank u!! 🥰
Really interesting topic, and loved hearing the French!

Fantastique. Etant Allemande Trilingue 60+ je tiendrai compte des vos conseils

Ravie que ça puisse être utile! Et oui c'est une très bonne remarque ça!
Now I want to learn French 😂Great job 👏
Étant Québécoise, quand je suis allé dans un resto en France, j'ai été surprise des petites portions. Je m'attendais à une grosse lasagne à la Québecoise. J'ai eu un petit carré haha
Wish ! understood French :/ I love your mom videos :)
I'm also laughing about thanksgiving. Have you heard of a turducken? I'm now thinking it might be too big for French ovens.
I have no idea what that is 😂
@@Edukalebylucie LOL It is a turkey stuffed into a deboned duck stuffed into a deboned chicken and it is intense. My family made them a few times when I was a kid.
Love it!

We lived a year in Atlanta and 4 years near Chicago!
I love that you said you would speak very slowly, but, not exactly! 😢
May I ask your thoughts on intermittent fasting so celebrated by the Americans?
Of course, I have an entire video on it!! ua-cam.com/video/1lKiQ4RNlEE/v-deo.html
As an American, the amount of soda they give us is honestly ridiculous! It needs to half the size!
The only people I know that eat at 5 are grandparents lol
What a lovely video thank you!! Its too bad Americans don’t sit around the table and have a balanced family meal, like the French. This contributes to alot of problems with children.
Mom and daughter look so delicious
Kiss to mommy
Don't overlook how many calories the French burn by being smug know-it-alls.
if i compare myself , it it regular
better education , better food , better healthcare , better cultur , better life expectancy
good day
