I used to be stationed at Honington in the early eighties the old home of 12 sqdn Bucs I remember the film with the Vangelis soundtrack they showed us recruits in the careers office , there were still a few "one way trippers" which they used to practice load on exercise in the hard shelters , I was an FOA guard making sure no one interfered with the bomb jockeys while they did their stuff ! Saw the fox tail in the front wheel well which bought it all back , I demobbed the same time as these old girls did along with the Victors of 57 after Granby .
@@stuartburgess2409 nice one I was there on the 2 bucc sim simulators and the Martel Simulator which was used in that Vangelis film great film and happy Honington days!
What a beauty. A million thanks to the people who keep the old girl alive and protect her. The jet engine roar was pure raw power and music to my ears. Thanks for sharing this video!
Nice to see this lovely aircraft .( Back in the day my Father wrote the manuals for the South African Buccs ! he would have loved your vid . ) such a delightful shape . ,back when things were made using curves !
What a fantastic vid, must be one of the most underrated aircraft ever except for those that deployed and flew them. Great insight into the work that keeps these beauties going. Thank you best regards Mike
I was part of a crash guard that was mobilized after a Buc went down in a field in Germany. We were all armed and told not to let anyone near the wreckage. The jet had been on the range and was returning to RAF Laarbruch when it went down. I can't remember the cause, but i heard one of the locking pins for the folding wings failed. Maybe someone knows more about this fatal accident that happened in the late 70s early 80s.
lots of reasons for them going to be fair. Notwithstanding the metal fatigue issues that were beginning to cause major problems and the loss of several aircraft and crew, the RAF had to make some difficult decisions to essentially keep with the Buccs or the Tornados but they couldn't keep both and the Tornado was a better all rounder.
GR3 more modern aircraft, and while it was better in some aspects the Buccaneers had other capabilities where the GR3 wasn't as good. At the end of the day if you have to go with one platform due to cuts as the RAF did have to , you choose the best all rounder.

Id love to do something like this my dad used to work on them fleet airarm
TBAG are always keen on potential volunteers
When the fella went up the arse end where the lox bottle was that's where we imported illegal stuff 😅
surely not :-)
Always fascinated me that the undercarriage seems to cut the engine in half, just seems no room for the gear
compact design, got to fit on an aircraft carrier
It was a mistake to get rid of them😢

GR3 wins hands down lol fixed wing every time
