I remember back in '94 hearing this for the first time and buggin out cuz I had just bought the Donald Bird album that sample came from. I just kept listening to it and marveling at the magic of hip hop taking such a tiny sample and making an amazing jam.
From which Donald Bird song is this sample taken? Must have been great to discover Beatnuts used that, unless you wanted to bring out a track using it 😅
Was at a hip hop event at UBC in Vancouver. They handed out free tapes and Cd's. I got a tape, Don Jaguar I believe. My friend a CD. He asked me to trade because he didnt have a CD Player. Best trade ever, anazing Album.
This came out in 1994 and again and again 1994 was and is the best year in Hip Hop. This is Hip Hop when it was just ripe. Nas, Biggie, Scarface, ILL and AL Skratch, Tupac and Thug Life, Bone Thugs n Harmony, Wutang Clan, The Dogg Pound, Above the Rim soundtrack, New Jersey Drive soundtrack, Da Brat, 69 Boys, 95 South, Outkast, Eazy E, Too Short, Spice-1, M.C. Eiht, Lords of the Underground, Tribe Called Quest and so many others. Great talent from the Westcoast and the East Coast and the South. Common was out as well and even Master P had a good album that came out in 1994.
This video is so legendary you will never ever see a helicopter flying over the city like that. Over the river yes! Over the sky scrapper no, unless you the cops
I grew up listening to Beatnuts in Japan. they are the BEST. This track is one of my most favourite. I listened like 100000 times... 2021, still sounds fresh and amazing.
I just discovered this on Spotify bruh that Jazz Bass is beautiful, this is a perfect example of why the 90s is the last great era because they still had Soul 🤙🏿
If you can't look back on the music from your era and feel nostalgic, then you're missing out. Just something to think about when you call your elders "old"! #nowigetit
I love the "hey!" that is placed in over a curse in Les' and Fash's verses as if it's some square offended at the language. It's a unique way to create a clean version, idk if I've ever heard it done that way anywhere else.
One of my favorite Beatnut joints ..seems like when they mixed it back them they released it with main melody a bit lower volume and some of the background fizz up front ...may be just me ....but super dope how they infused that live keyboard “New Jack Swing” sound on a hard core record.
So when he said I hope they pass me by um like the farside, that could also be relatable like lot and his family. Not every man is taught or equipped to fight off some candy porcupines. But being prayed up and watchful. Hiding your jewels at times is important. That doesn't negate learning self defense like David or Sampson. But there are times you or God hides you.
