The vibe in the 90's was just magical, before social media, before 99% of people even had mobile phones, Before you could google anything, the world was still such a mysterious place, every day was a new adventure, everybody had their own unique style and vibe since nobody was copying what they seen on social media everybody was more creative and less influenced it was so pure, going to a new area or city truly was an adventure you never knew what kind of people you would meet or places you would see, Your homie would give you a tape with new artists you never heard of, you had no idea who it was but it sounded fire, Nowdays with social media, smart phones and google, the world is now so small, that sense of adventure and mystery is no more, most people are sheep, and every city you go to everybody walks talks and looks the same. I feel blessed to have grew up in the 90's, The feeling and vibe was truly something else.
You pretty much summed up what I don't like about living in the current era. Every part world is getting more and more the same, and doesn't feel magical, exciting and mysterious like it used to. For example in the Balkan region like Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia.. They have some good old-school rappers, maybe you won't understand the language but it sounds good.. The 90s was a golden age, the music was next level, the real hip hop and proper rock and roll, the skating, the baggy clothes and the overall more chill times.
Kind of weird that the 1890s was also the Golden Era of the last century, though the first decade of the 20th century....and then came an upheaval that turned the world more shitty and destroyed the dream and changed everything forever. WW1 happened and ruined the Golden Age. So what catastrophe is due now 100 years later? Somehow I doubt COVID is enough yet. Or maybe it's just a general kind of nosedive we have already begun.
I remember when i used to walk the streets of brooklyn in the 90s and used to hear the dudes from the corner appartment buildings sitting in the front steps listening to this mixes smoking weed and drinking flavor drinks laughing joking around. it was different it was chill with good vibes.
As a little kid in the 90s, two things associated me with this style of hip hop: Street Fighter and anime. Now in 2023, I crack a smile hearing these beats as they bring me back to a time hip hop was tied to two of my all time favorites.
Even though im only 16 this music gives me such nostalgia feelings. Been listening to 90s Rock and Hip Hop now for a few years already and nothing else can give me what I get from that music.

old school real hip hop is just amazing. It's like a time machine. Listening the first song i cant stop visualizing an urban sunset, old cars, brick buildings and parking lots
This whole mix reminds me of working on my uncles Volkswagen in the winter when I was younger. We always use to work on his car in the cold garage listening to his cassette tape boombox. Me and my boy were parting out his Honda last winter in my garage listening to this mix and it brought me back hard to those times with my uncle. Love this mix. Let’s knock and stop worrying about all this bullshit we have today
The picture for this video is a work of art, grimey as hell, emotioal, deep....captures the survival hustle nature of New York in the 80s and 90s. My props go out to the photographer..the way he put that broken chain link right in my eyes makes me feel like im there.
Other than Mad Vibes, I never heard of a single one of these artists and grew up always searching the fringes of 90s rap - Black Attack, Arsonists, Visionaries, etc. What an unbelievable compilation. Much appreciation and thanks.
same here i grew up digging heavy on this stuff and mad vibes the only name i recognize. props to nicola for digging some truly rare gems. can you share more please?
This channel singlehandedly taught me to appreciate hip-hop. At least from this era, in this style. Never cared much for it before, but there is really good music here. Ive been sending people this way every opportunity i get every since then.
It really is, dude. Couldn't have said it any better myself. Lots of wisdom in this poetry, over incredible instrumentals sampled heavily from old school R&B and funk... has helped me through a lot.
Man back in the late 90's a friend of mine gave me a mixtape he made while in New York, it was like Friday night hip hop thing, with a lot of rare stuff. Unfortunately that tape got ate, and never thought I would ever hear or be able to find any of those songs again. Crazy enough, several of those songs on on this list. Amazing list man!

I'm only 19 but weirdly I feel the same, life seemed better in the 90s, simpler. Make your own fun, not consumed in all this social media bullshit. Being more present and living.
In the decade of the 1990s I read every issue of The Source, Rap Pages, 4080 and pretty much every magazine that covered Hip Hop culture. Watched Rap City religiously, listened to plenty of college radio stations that played underground content. I was about as much of a dyed in the wool Hip Hop head as there was. And I can say other than Mad Vibes I've never heard of any of these cats. This is true, rare underground Hip Hop. Salute to my man Nicola for this top flight compilation!
No exceptions in genres, the best period for all music was between 1965 - 2000. Rock, pop, disco, Motown, hiphop, R&B, soul, New Romantics, rave, D&B, jungle, Chicago house, acid house, electronic, break, funk……..the list goes on, it will never be repeated again in this “system of things.”
So true, 90's Hip-Hop was the best! And in general the 90's was amazing, the movies were better, sports like basketball were tougher and just simply put life before social media was so much more real.
When the very first track takes you right through your home town... you know it's going to be a good time. Big up to the ones that take that same journey through route 4 over the GWB to get your kicks or see your family like I used to do once upon a time!
I'm on that Kind of HipHop almost my whole life..started with 8 listening to those Tracks and even nowadays I get goosebumbs bro...another LvL of Perfection!
I graduated HS in 1995, joined the Marines, and by 97 I had already seen like all the Mediterranean countries. Hip hop was like a universal language everywhere I went. The 90s were good. Internet wasn't really a thing. No cell phones. People were different then. You didn't have anything besides your wits and guts. Thats how it went down man.
Damn man. Night and day from years ago. I’m 38 and I grew up in the Gangstarr, Wu, Biggie, Tribe, Roots, etc. days. This blows everything out of the water these days. Kids nowadays have no idea. This is a great mix and I’ll admit I don’t think I’ve heard some of these. Absolute fire man. Nice job! Thanks for the memories.

This playlist is crazy. I'm a hip-hop HEAD and this is mad refreshing. People don't understand how essential the old school essence is. You know how long I've wanted beats like this to rap too?!?... for the looongest hah. So it's bitter sweet for me cuz I wanna rap over it but I end up just listening humbly/respectfully. Good post! the vibe is up 4sure.
🤔Really? From listening to your music you don't sound massively influenced by the old school essence...more like the early/mid 2000s. And there's plenty of beats like this to choose from here on UA-cam, you just gotta search for them. I'm an rapper as well but my music is nearly 100% reflective of 90s hip hop
This is how it was and should be..Old skool early to mid 90's deep/dark old-sampled melodies and simple beats....very East Coast: Pete Rock/Diamond D/Dilla/D.J. Premier/D.I.T.C.-Style:)....
the cool part about east coast for me is that it is so versatile. you got the dark, hopeless underground shit or by guys like mobb deep, than you got nas whos a little more juvenile and happy. but you also got guys like biggie and jay z who are just about balling and messing around. and if you consider detroit east coast still, which it culturaly is maybe, there still is people like d12 who also have this kinda exagerated, irony kinda rap.
none of these songs suck wtf. usually in hour long compilations i skip to see the best songs and download them separately, but THIS vid didn't make me skip! nice compilation youtuber! kudos
I cannot believe that I have not heard a single one of these tracks!! Thank you so much for making this! I am going to search most of these out on vinyl to add to my collection.
It was an honor to have grown up in the 90s, and its a privilege as a 33 year old to discover what i missed while living through it... this shit makes the music in 2021 easier to tolerate!

that place is huge, probably not seen this considering the hustle n bustle. Nice to see an authentic comment. Really intrigues me how people grew up in such a unique time in history. I am born in the 90s but I wasn't old enough to be able to say I grew up in the midst of it. @@andreykh1835

Im 40 jears old and the 90s is the best Time for me
The 90s was a golden age, the music was next level, the real hip hop and proper rock and roll, the skating, the baggy clothes and the overall more chill times.
I call that time 'the Renaissance of hiphop'.
Makes me wanna watch 'kids'...
music was siiick but there was so much bullshit going on, in the ghettos, in afghanistan ih mexico. rough times tbh
@digital sprite everything changed when the fire nation attacked
What a wonderful music. I’m 42 and I feel like a child listening it. 90s is a golden period, I understand it only now. Thank you, great MCs!

@@NicolaArmellin thank you good man, peace
Kind of weird that the 1890s was also the Golden Era of the last century, though the first decade of the 20th century....and then came an upheaval that turned the world more shitty and destroyed the dream and changed everything forever. WW1 happened and ruined the Golden Age. So what catastrophe is due now 100 years later? Somehow I doubt COVID is enough yet. Or maybe it's just a general kind of nosedive we have already begun.
I'm 44 and yup..yuh bruv

As a little kid in the 90s, two things associated me with this style of hip hop: Street Fighter and anime. Now in 2023, I crack a smile hearing these beats as they bring me back to a time hip hop was tied to two of my all time favorites.
Exactly! Very well put.

Other than Mad Vibes, I never heard of a single one of these artists and grew up always searching the fringes of 90s rap - Black Attack, Arsonists, Visionaries, etc. What an unbelievable compilation. Much appreciation and thanks.

This channel singlehandedly taught me to appreciate hip-hop. At least from this era, in this style. Never cared much for it before, but there is really good music here. Ive been sending people this way every opportunity i get every since then.
Old school hip hop is like healing the sick. Medicine for the soul.
Nice to see someone listening to this jam in 2021 :)

Rap/HipHop (and people) have changed drastically . Oh how I wish we could all be back in the ‘90s again ; when things were simpler .

I don't think any era will ever come close to the 90s just untouchable. 💯
It won't. 90s Hip Hop was untouchable.
So true, 90's Hip-Hop was the best! And in general the 90's was amazing, the movies were better, sports like basketball were tougher and just simply put life before social media was so much more real.
I wasn't born at 90's, therefore probably can't really say if this is true, but early and mid 00's were pretty good?

Yo, check out my ‘90’s hip hop playlist!

Rollin' Over You might just be the GOAT hip hop track ever laid down
This is how it was and should be..Old skool early to mid 90's deep/dark old-sampled melodies and simple beats....very East Coast: Pete Rock/Diamond D/Dilla/D.J. Premier/D.I.T.C.-Style:)....
@TOC ????....
Just Sum Guy the west coast is still the best coast
If HipHop was always this and had no variation it would be boring.
the cool part about east coast for me is that it is so versatile. you got the dark, hopeless underground shit or by guys like mobb deep, than you got nas whos a little more juvenile and happy. but you also got guys like biggie and jay z who are just about balling and messing around. and if you consider detroit east coast still, which it culturaly is maybe, there still is people like d12 who also have this kinda exagerated, irony kinda rap.
