She is looking more beautiful with each episode, Steve. I have the highest respect for your photoetch work, especially on the paravanes. I would have given up modelling after completing only one, for sure. The precision you are achieving with your work, also with your painting, is really outstanding.
Steve, I have to thank you, having watched your Hood build, I have now gone back to her after 3 years. The main inspiration for this has been your demonstration of soldering. I had never thought of doing it before, but your experience opened the door for me. I am amazed at how easy it actually is once you get a bit of practice. Keep up the excellent work!
Coming along great for sure...Those gratings are RAL 7016 anthracite grey like steel decks or rubber black like you are using....hawse reels on superstructure are for fire hoses and hoses should be red like life preservers...One paravane on forward section is placed wrong in instructions so watch for it as you press forward...I think starboard side by forward secondary turret on bulkhead...
Another comment on colour, just if you would like to add a few colour splashes to your model as you further proceed: The lifebuoys/ rings were initially painted in RAL3010, which is a very bright red (look up RAL 3020 "Verkehrsrot" for a modern equivalent). After a while when they were repainted, they could show up in different colours, however. The meshes that you added around the anti aircraft mounts are actually deck extensions that only had some supports below, so you could basically see through. They would have been painted in RAL 7016, a dark grey ("trittfeste Außendecksfarbe"). Please let me know if you are interested into further details. If so, I could pm you some further hints on colours and details coming from German primary sources and the book about the very accurate model I quoted last time.
@@TheModelShed Thank you for your quick reply Steve. I will compile a set of detail information for you this week and hope this will be useful for your built.
Can these parts get any smaller ? Nice work on the paravanes, they came out great. Did you put a coat of clear on the deck beforehand ? You didn’t say anything about it this time?
Hi John. They were used to cut the moorings of mines. They were deployed over the side using a rigged boom attached to a cable. I guess the plate and wings did the cutting, the whole device kept at the correct incidence by the aerodynamic (or should that be hydrodynamic) shape of the device.
I'm struggling with Tamiya paint colours may I ask what colours you are using. I'm getting different colours from all over but I really want to get it spot on are as close as I can thanks
I use XF66 for the hull and XF19 for the superstructure. Boot topping is rubber black. The hull bottom is a mix of hull red brightened up a bit with XF7.
On the life ring brackets, the piece that you cut off is folded to make a j-shaped hook that holds the top side of the wing
Yes I get that Mac but it’s overcomplicated and the same configuration can be had without the excess folds I think.

Dave that’s great to know. I learned a lot myself about soldering during the Hood build so it’s nice to know it helped. 👍
The Pontos detailed paravanes really add fine detail to this area of the ship, so worth the effort. Looking forward to the next episode.
Thanks Alan - not sure what that will be yet🤔😬

Thanks Casey I’ll check those details out.
Enjoying watching the ship take shape Steve. But if some of these PE parts get any smaller you'll be working at the molecular level!
They’re eye testing for sure David 🤪
The black boot is where the holy stones for deck cleaning hit the bulkhead
Interesting thanks Kevin 👍
Great stuff, really loved the black skirting detail
👍
Fantastic work on the detail steve, especially the paravane miniscule parts
Cheers Jerry 👍
Holy Moly i need a magnifying glass to see!! Amazing Job!!
Cheers Michal 👍
The work you do is fantastic. amazing work with the photoetc. Thanks
Thanks Rich 👍
Good results on those delicate paravanes Steve. They look great when mounted and painted on the side of the superstructure.
Thanks Ron 👍
About to start my painting.
Just the basic photo etch and wooden deck.
Great to watch your work great work
Good luck with it Peter - enjoy 👍

Thanks for that information Klaus I’d be interested to hear from you - any details to add to the accuracy of the model would be welcome 🙏
@@TheModelShed Thank you for your quick reply Steve. I will compile a set of detail information for you this week and hope this will be useful for your built.
Superb Steve, will you add any details inside the aircraft hanger?
yes Gary the Pontos set has the hangar rails so I’ll be fitting them
BIG THUMBS UP
Thanks Colin 👍

No Evan I didn’t this time - I hope it doesn’t come back to bite me 🤞
Some of them parts are so small I can't see them without a large lighted magnifing glass while wearing a pair of readers.
😵💫😵💫
Nice work Steve, what are the paravanes used for, seen them on many ships but because of my limited knowledge of ships , I have no idea...

@@TheModelShed Thanks Steve.👍
What do you decant your superglue into when doing the photo etch?
I just use a bottle top Christopher - nothing special.
the brass sheet you show your self cutting out the parts from, is for the front deck waterways. do you have the instructions for the rear deck?
The sheet has the waterways for both front and rear superstructure decks.
@@TheModelShed mine has only for the front deck section

@TheModelShed Cheers thanks for the help mate...
What is this tube thing you are using with the ca glue
Not sure what you mean Paul but I used a piece of fine brass wire at one point on the ladder - is that what you mean?
is that detail set need for agora bismarck ?
It’s designed specifically for the Trumpeter kit - I don’t know anything about the agora kit.
@@TheModelShed ok tyvm !!
Fantastic job how are you spelling the work ?
Sorry Russell not sure I follow?
Sorry if I did not my self clear , iam trying to find out more info on the part you were making in the last episode which you call a para vein ?
it’s a paravane. it was towed on a line from the ship and the cable it was attached to was designed to cut the moorings of mines.
Thanks for taking the time to reply much appreciated 👍
