The timing light is a Sears Craftsman Vintage Inductive Timing Light Model # 161.213400 manufactured from 1972 through the 1987. I still have mine too. ;-)
Casey Winningham; Your posted detailed, precise information including model number is excellent ! Had purchased my Craftsman Inductive Timing Light also in 1977 along with my Craftsman tool sets at the local Sears Department Store. Also used them to assist me with my tuning, maintenance, repairs, examination, investigation, troubleshooting, purchase with each, every used car including the first in summer 1977 [1973 Opel Manta]. That Inductive Timing Light was certainly valuable, inexpensive, always reliable, durable, accurate throughout the many years; still. Even brought it and tools overseas to my residence [moved from USA 31+ years ago]. All The Best, Sincerely @MidwestStreetCarsAuto @JustinSheareer; Great, well edited video Jackie and well detailed, described, explained comment Justin 🙂 Clearly many that watch this video, seemingly those on Your channel have used, owned, bought this same Craftsman Inductive Timing Light too; thus posted their information. Sadly, as with all valuable Craftsman tools, products, they are not longer available [NLA] as with Sears. Mine were always good, valuable, useful, though not the top level as those professional level tools.
Ok so on the date of the timing gun…It’s late 70s early 80s craftsman. I have the identical version. It should tell you a date on the side of the craftsman tag. Or the patent date. But I can find out a more specific date with the model numbers. Loving the channel, and enjoy watching the two of you banter with each other. Thanks for sharing with us. Ps. Jackie I absolutely love your dad’s car. I’m glad you had the chance to rescue it.
I have that same light. The trademark on the box says 1978. Mine still has the box and instruction sheet. It was my dad's. I also have a red and black Craftsman timing light from 1973. They both work.
I used one at 13 in 1985 exactly like it was my father’s. Worked amazing I use it until 1995. I believe I loaned it to somebody and never saw it again.
That exact timing light was a Christmas present from my Grand Parents in 1982. It wasn’t cheap back then. I still have the box and the instructions as well, and have used that light without fail for over 40 years.
" I Big Blocked my whole life before you ok." Lol, Ms. Jackie making it known she's BEEN all bout that big block life. So cool watching you two do the damn thing.
Yep, the old 1972 Craftsman timing light. I still have and use mine I got from my father. It's in the toolbox of my off-road recovery vehicle. The dang thing has even been under water a couple times, but still works.
Hey Big Chief, how you doing man we miss you. I went to auto shop in 1976 and '77. This is the exact light my instructor used and that I also purchased for my personal use. I still use it today. Hang in there man. Love the project

Through that car I met Arnie " The Farmer " Beswick. Good sir , a vintage big block requires a vintage and old school timing light. If memory serves me correctly, that looks to be 1979-1981 if that helps... long before you two youngins were born lol. Seriously it is sooooooo amazingly awesome and wonderful to see the two of you getting dad's Nova up and running and sounding quite healthy. I cannot wait to see either Miss Jackie or her sister knocking the dust... and rubber off this beautiful old girl. Not going to lie, I'm pretty certain that I will be shedding a few tears to see either one of them ripping down the track... Lord willing beating the pants off of their opponent. I know that this means the world to them getting their dad's car not only up and running, but winning once again. After everything that has transpired... and the way it all transpired. This will finally bring a huge smile to their dad's face when he sees his baby(ies) running down the track. Much love, prayers, and giant Newfie kisses from upstate NY.🙏💜
When the nova started up it made me smile as you could imagine the omission that car brings to you both. Fingers crossed it all goes smooth through to the first test. Good luck guys.👌
I literally have that same timing light in my shop and use it with sporadic success on my papaw 71 Camaro. The balancer slipped so now I do it by ear. How cool! Thanks for taking us along for the ride! Edit: mine has a clip and springs not the fancy plastic hook on deal. Got mine in 1985 I believe
It warms my heart to see that old Craftsman timing light putting in work,I have one just like it that was my Dad's.I remember him using it in the early 80's when I was a kid and It still works great today.
Hey Chief!! It was the good old 8-bit Nintendo that had the Zapper to play Duck Hunter. Remember Gun smoke?!? It was a Western theme shooting game. Now you know 😉 Take care guys ...and cats 😄
I have that identical timing light! Used to be my dad's so not exactly sure what year it's from but it's been around since before I was born so at least 38 years old. Mine is also equally as melted btw...
I bought that same timing light in 1982 when I got out of high school and I still have it somewhere and it worked when parked lol. Im Gonna find it and put back in use or display great video love it
I have the same timing light. My grandfather gave it to me in ‘99 when I started tech school. I can remember it being in his garage when I was a little kid.
Thanks for the awesome entertainment. I have the same timing light i bought it new back in the mid to late 70s when the others would quit working i would bring out old faithful and never let me down still works to this day. God bless and as always be safe.
Lol I have used my Dad's Sears timing light (accept it's the dial back model) since the late 80s. Pretty sure he bought the kit in 78. Have the compression tester and dwell meter/tach that all still work. I bought a modern high dollar light I used for 18 months and it stopped working. Went back to the Duck Hunter
HI SORRY BEEN BUSY !! GREAT TO SEE YOU BOTH OF YOU BACK !! THE TIMING LIGHT IS FROM 70 TO 80S HAD A DIFFERT ONE FROM THE 60S THAT HAD HAD WHEN HE RACED IN MICHIGAN FROM 58 TO 64 ON WOODWARD WITH A 58 CHEVY !! 348 MADE TO 409 BEFORE THERE WAS A 409 AND IT WAS A TRI POWER IT RAN 12.28 IN 58 . HE HAS A 72 NOVA WITH A BIG BLOCK AND ITS RED TOO . NICE TO SEE YOU GETTING READY TO HAVE THIS NOVA GETTING READY HAVE A GREAT DAY TODD FROM MICHIGAN .
That timing light is from the 80's and 90s i had one for the longest time. They were sold at sears and extremely common in the household performance garage. Very good light and reliable.
That old timing light is the same as my old Craftsman my dad got me for Christmas back in about 1984 . I upgraded to a Ferret in about 1994 that has a dwell and Volt meter with advance. It' has a digital display. Made in Kalamazoo MI. I like it. Bought it from NAPA of all places.
I have one of them. They started making them in the mid 70's mine is from Early 1980's. She is correct about being able to take them apart, you can take them apart to replace the bulb in them. They (mine) uses a strobe light bulb just like you use in the older style police strobe lights (before they started using Led). Yall both are correct as they are extremely tough and reliable timing lights. I mainly use mine now for timing my VW stroker motor.
My Dad had that same timing light when I was a little boy I’ve still got it put up. I remember it in 90-92 watching him set the timing on the old Beetle
I have the same TLight handed down from my Grandfather. He had that thing since the 80's when I first started being his "gopher". Thanks for bringing back all those memories.
I do believe Jackie has the talents to build a race car, by herself. Everything but the HEAVY lifting. Miss Jackie youre giving out hope that there's women still out there that could maybe, aquire your skill set and tradecraft. Or atleast become interested in the sport like you are. Thanks for the inspiration. You, Tess, Alex Taylor and Brittney Automotive Are "Dreams Come True"
I had one of those timing lights! I bought it from Sears @1980 when Sears was the place to buy tools for the hobbiest that couldn't afford Snap-on. It worked great for years till someone borrowed it... forever
My dad had the complete craftsman engine analyzer set. It's early 80's. My stepbrother lost the damn thing or pawned probably Southside OKC or in Norman a couple of years back.
Timing light is early 80’s. I have 2 of them and they both work, Big block and small block. Tools back then were built to be used, break, fix and use some more.
No better way to honor your dad than bringing that Nova out and getting it running correctly. Those lights were from the 70s up until the 90s then sears came out with the adjustable advance dial in the middle but looks the same as that. Those adjustable ones are great. Sunpro actually makes one that looks just like it
That's an early 80's Craftsman timing light. I've still got my Dad's predecessor to that one, that makes that thing look new. It doesnt even Have an inductive pick up. You use a crazy ass long spring that bite the top of the plug, stands off the plug cap and you bike the spring with an alligator clip to signal the light. Doing this at night is interesting, quite the light show as the spring arcs all over the damp engine bay.
I’ve always loved the Nova I owned one 25 yrs and it kills me i sold it. Beautiful Nova your Dad will be happy your upgrading it and working on it. RIP
I have the exact timing light and it’s always put back in the box after each use. Was my pops and that’s how he took care of his things. Guess I followed his steps. I love that light too. Anytime I use his tools there’s no other feeling like it.
Ahh man chief and Jackie got plans for the nova can’t wait these 2 are awesome chief is the street god he can drive tune and knows how to get down love these 2 favorite people to watch on UA-cam
In 1983 I built my first motor with my Fathers help. I Used that same timing light. I have it in My shop now. My father was a bracket racer in the late 70's and early 80's I have never not known him to have any other Timing Light but that one. so If I had to guess I'd say early 70's
I have the same timing light exceptt it is an advance version with an advance knob. I will look on the box when I get home if I remember believe it or not I still have the box that came in when I bought it on eBay.
I have the same timing light with the cardboard box it came in I just went to work on a truck and asked him if he had a timing light and he had the same one also and he had the box still too
Probably mid 80s on the Sears n Roebuck Craftsman timing light. I have my dads adjustable one from like 88-89. It was the only one that would pick up signal when you use a MSD ignition. In fact, lol, i can be like Justin said, one for each hand. I inherited my step dads. Timing 2 engines at once! Lol
Craftsman induction timming light C-83 XC is the part number ebay has lots of them cheap! Lol my dad had one and i will always keep it still works and its atleast 1980 cuz he had it before i was born so probably late 70s
I bought a craftsman timing light new like that in 1986 and again in 1992 but in 95 I bought a snap. On with advance dial on the back ! Snap on ever since
That timing light is the model #2134 and it looks like production years were late 70s to the mid 80s. Also there is one on eBay right now with the OG box for like $35. P.S. that timing light is older than me LOL. Great video guys!
My dad turns 70 this year- he raced in HS and into his early 30’s. He had the same exact timing light- when I turned 15/16 and starting racing I used that timing light- I’m thinking that lights from the late 60’s. I know they’re incredibly durable as I put many love dents in a square body fender with that damn light when working on my first truck 😂
I had the same timing light. My grandfather gave it to me when i was 16 n got my first Car and built a small block in his machine shop. That was 91 and it was an ancient dinosaur compared to his Snap-on. Lol
I have the same time in light from 1974 and the dwell meter that went with it too my dad bought it brand new and we use it on our flat bottom V Drive on a dual point distributor
Your dad would be so proud to see his car getting so much love and care from you Jackie and Chief thanks for making us a part of seeing it back to racing soon you guys are killing it on the videos
Man I am so glad to see yall are getting the nova running and doing the up grades I'm sure Jackie's dad is looking down with a smile from ear to ear saying that's my girl I know yall will really put yalls heart and soul into this car and it will be even better. Good job guys

My dad has that same exact timing light and it still works perfectly 😂😂
I had one of those timing lights. bought mine in 1984. It worked so good it grew legs and walked out of my garage one day into someone else's garage.
Nice doc holiday reference😂😂👍
That timing light is from the 80's and 90s i had one for the longest time. They were sold at sears and extremely common in the household performance garage. Very good light and reliable.
13:50 I feel attacked 🤣😂
lololol
I have the same craftsman timing light! It belonged to my grandfather, he bought it in the 70s... i still have it now, and it still works PERFECT!!!
You, Tess, Alex Taylor and Brittney Automotive Are "Dreams Come True"
thanks gary! i appreciate it! 🙏🏼🙏🏼
I had one of those timing lights! I bought it from Sears @1980 when Sears was the place to buy tools for the hobbiest that couldn't afford Snap-on. It worked great for years till someone borrowed it... forever
Got one!! I used it on my 73 grand prix. With a 400 pontiac. Also had the dwell meter that was from sears also. So I would say early 70s .
Bought mine in 1986 from sears still have it today then upgraded to the one with the daily on the back to tune for nos made it more easy
My dad had the complete craftsman engine analyzer set. It's early 80's. My stepbrother lost the damn thing or pawned probably Southside OKC or in Norman a couple of years back.
Dad’s looking down smiling.
Aloha🤙🏽
Timing light is early 80’s. I have 2 of them and they both work, Big block and small block. Tools back then were built to be used, break, fix and use some more.
No better way to honor your dad than bringing that Nova out and getting it running correctly. Those lights were from the 70s up until the 90s then sears came out with the adjustable advance dial in the middle but looks the same as that. Those adjustable ones are great. Sunpro actually makes one that looks just like it
Late 70s early 80s we had one exact to that my old man was all about craftsman great to see yall using one lol 😅😅
Chief...Jackie keeps looking better each day now i know what you were seeing...👊Girl knows hot rod's!!!
I've had that same light with the dial back feature since the mid 80's, still works perfect to this very day!
That light was made between 83-86, I have one my dad gave me and he remembers getting it around that time
Great job and attention to detail both of you. Your Dad would be proud. The car sounds great!
Love to see the upgrade on Nova. Chief made it look easy to do wiring
Yep my dad has the same timing light. And it's never failed us even had to use it when mine wouldn't work either.
I had one like that. My grandfather gave it to me in the late 80's!
We have one from the mid to late 80'S with the advance dial. It's my backup light and still works
I have the same timing light exceptt it is an advance version with an advance knob. I will look on the box when I get home if I remember believe it or not I still have the box that came in when I bought it on eBay.
I have the same timing light with the cardboard box it came in I just went to work on a truck and asked him if he had a timing light and he had the same one also and he had the box still too
Listener 12 here. Love watching you two away from the TV show. So much better to see what's really happening.
I have one of those that I have used since the mid eighties and is still the best timing light I've used 😁
70-85 I know I'm in the ball park and yes they made them to last unlike the crap we buy now days. Love the program guys take care.
Snap on ever since
I have that exact same timing light, believe my Dad picked it up in the mid-seventies; it still works!
Had one of those timing lights. Pretty sure that's late 60's model .
The music alone in this video is a vibe!
Big Chief and Murder Nova will break the internet I would love to see it at Jimmy Dales & Poland’s small tire gangster race at yellow belly
I have the same exact one, it was my dad's and he passed away Dec 7 2000 an I got his tool box, and I used that very same timing light still lol
the timing light is from the early to mid 70's. I bought one exactly like it in 1975
So good to see ol red get some love n almost had a tear laughing about the timing light.... cheers guys 😅
That timing light is the model #2134 and it looks like production years were late 70s to the mid 80s. Also there is one on eBay right now with the OG box for like $35.
P.S. that timing light is older than me LOL. Great video guys!
I have the exact same timing light and it’s gotten me out of binds aswell when the old snap on failed me
Your Dad would be proud of you Jackie, keep making great videos guys love em.
I have one my grandpa bought in 1972 and it still works. Not sure what year sears stopped making it
Gotta be early 70s..ive still got a Penske light alot like that..dwell meter too!
I got the exact same timing light. it works.
Lol
I finally bought a msd timing light and its dead steady with them multi spark ignition boxes. Pricey but worth it.
Jackie is the LEGACY that drives the LEGEND!!😮
I have the same time in light from 1974 and the dwell meter that went with it too my dad bought it brand new and we use it on our flat bottom V Drive on a dual point distributor
1970 sears I bought mine still works. Been dropped, draged. I survived my son.
I believe that timing light is early 70's. My old man bought one when he rebuilt his 67 pontiac Sprint. Im pretty sure that thing will never fail u....js
I have a few of the Sears steel case. But dial advance lights someplace new in the box.
