FINALLY! So glad you guys decided to check out Shalamar, one of the baddest groups of the 80's! Now you gotta react to these two hits of theirs: "A NIght To Remember" and "Make That Move". Jodi Watley, the female singer in the group, has some great solo hits like "It All Begins With You", and Howard Hewitt the lead male singer also did a lot of backup vocals for other groups like the song by Klymaxx "I'd Still Say Yes", another awesome tune!
Please check out "This is for the Lover in You" and "The Second Time Around" by Shalimar. Howard Hewett is one of the most underrated voices ever. His vocals are smooth and flawless! Sends chills every time I listen to him. 🤭❤️
The female member of the group is Jody Watley, who had her own solo career in the 80's with some excellent dance tunes. I just love that sweet early 80's funk/soul/R+B stuff. You're right, when disco died it just allowed groups and music like this to come to the forefront. Disco was awesome, but it needed to go because it was killing everything else.
Being a 90s kid, Shalamar is one of my fave ever bands. My dad i remember always had it on in the car. I now have all of their albums downloaded on my Spotify. There are so many Shalamar iconic songs!
Love Shalamar. They were really popular in the mid to late 70 into the 80's before they left to do solo things. Different people replaced them, but these three were the originals. Take That To The Bank, Night To Remember, Second Time Around, For The Lover In You, Dead Giveaway, Full Of Fire, and Make That Move are also great songs from them!
This is my jam right here. Shalamar was kind of tough to categorize because they came up in disco and then kind of morphed into different styles as music started changing. To me it's blends of disco, funk, and r&b. They added some b-boy type to dancing into their live act at one time. Their singer Jeffrey Daniels is credited with actually teaching Michael Jackson how to moonwalk.
This was a groove back in the day for us, when I was a kid. Howard Hewitt's silky vocals, Jody Whatley with the background laced tight, and Jeffrey Daniels and that bass line. Shalamar shined like a diamond. Check out their other hits, like Second Time Around, Take That To The Bank, Dancing in the Sheets, and Big Fun.
Great reaction 👍 Shalamar made so many quality tracks in the 70's & 80's and this one always brings back fond memories for me. I would recommend another Shalamar track 'This Is For The Lover In You' which is amazing...You will hear just how good a singer Howard Hewitt is 🔥
Look i'm old school, & lived through this decade as a young child. At tge time thus genre of R&B music was called progressive R&B. It was a New wave of music, sweeping not through the traditonal vibe of Black American music, but it also penetrated the european market including where i live....in the UK. When SHALAMAR first preforned on one of our prime time music programmmes...'Top Of The PoPs....back in 1982 which i saw live in BBC tv studios, One of the main members of SHALAMAR, Jefferey Daniel performed The Moon Walk, which he first devised. Also by the way, he performed to 'Night To Remember'. To sum up by the end of the 1970's, disco was dead & out ,& in it's place sweeping the whole Dance secne was this whole New sound & vibe of what was called at the time progressive R&B. SHALAMAR.....is one fantastic example of this brand New movement
Asia's right, Disco boom was the 70's. Shalamar were at the end of it in the early 80's. Coterminous timing with Punk and New Wave interestingly. Then it was electronica and rap. Pop is anything popular in all modern times.
Love Shalamar. Jeffrey Daniel was fantastic. I remember seeing him body pop on Top of the Pops in the early 80s. It was all we talked about at school the next day.
I LOVED Shalimar back in the day. Greatest hits album my Goto for cleaning my apartment. Reading the comments I learned that Howard Hewitt & Jody Watley were part of Shalimar!? And I have albums (still) by those two. 🤦♀️
Golden years 1977-1983 for soul/disco/funk. Then big bands/groups had to adjust to 3 people due to synths. Like Cameo, Bar-Kays and others. Shalamar, Dynasty ✨❣️✨
Shalamar recorded two songs perfect for weddings. The song "This is for the lover in you" for wedding proposals and the song "A night to remember" for the honeymoon. They are also played at many receptions. Shalamar was the best.
Yes, don't miss out!! Y'all need to react to 'Take That To The Bank' and 'A Night to Remember'!! I would call this music of this time extended disco because it is club/party music. I know because I was there!!💃💃
Must react to "Dead Giveaway". Any tune with the lyric "For years I've been your analyst, I've been as patient as I've been kind" strikes a chord with me 😆😆
So much talent with big egos. They could've been a supergroup if they had just placed their egos to the side. But Watley had enough of lead vocalist Howard Hewitt and decided to quit the group. From about '79 through '82 they were at their peak. They were the true 'What couldve been" group. 1979's 'The Second Time Around' is one of my favorites and 'A Night to Remember' is another great song thats on the same album as this song 'There It Is'.
This is just another great cut by Shalamar. Try "Make That Move", "A Night To Remember", "The Second Time Around", and of course their beautiful "For The Lover In You".
Your feeling it BJ they have some great stuff even showed Michael Jackson the Moonwalk another great band at this time was’ Imagination ‘ with Body talk amongst others
They make me want to Shalamar lol. Try "I Can Make You Feel Good" sometime. Patreon Movie Suggestions: Condorman, Shipwrecked, 7th Voyage of Sinbad, The Time Machine, The Journey of Natty Gann, Rocketman, Legend, and The Neverending Story. Can't wait for you to choose :D
Please do The Second Time Around by Shalimar!! I grew up listening to them. Best to do the video, they're great dancers. One of them, Jeffrey Daniel, was a regular dancer on Soul Train and he taught Michael Jackson the moonwalk! Howard, the lead singer is incredible, and Jody Watley had a huge solo career.

"Take That To The Bank"
I'd love to see a reaction to Howard Hewett's solo songs...he's the lead singer in this song. I recommend "I'm For Real" from him.
I LOVED Shalimar back in the day. Greatest hits album my Goto for cleaning my apartment. Reading the comments I learned that Howard Hewitt & Jody Watley were part of Shalimar!? And I have albums (still) by those two. 🤦♀️
Rock on!

Check out their song…”You Won’t Miss Love Until It’s Gone” one of their hidden gems that a lot of people don’t know about😄
Jody Watley had a successful solo career back in the 80s with hits like Looking For a New Love, Don't You Want Me and Some Kind of Lover
oh man! Shalamar so smooth!! oh yeah. ; )
If listening to Shalamar...then you must play Dead Giveaway..its there best in my opinion. Keep up the great work!

Jeffrey Daniel of Shalamar is the one who taught Michael Jackson how to do the moonwalk. Look it up.
