  • This is a walk-through tour of Maymont the mansion. They also had a summer house in Afton, VA called Swannanoa. We have a video on that house as well.

Stunning home. The beautiful stained glass window. It must be very valuable.

Yes the glass was from Tiffany and Co. I have a video of their vacation home Swannanoa which also has a Tiffany stained glass window. Thanks for watching!

This home is exquisite! I have to say that my eye immediately was drawn to this video as that it looks on the outside exactly like the estate on the hill, that was owned by the Arkell's and he was a NYS Senator in mid 1800's, and I worked there as activities director and nurse for over 20 yrs from late 1970's-200'0s. It was like home to me. It was turned into an adult home in 1952 by his daughter Mrs. Barbour and she set up and advisory board for the adult home. It is all still running well to this day!
The inside is a bit different as the home of Arkell Hall has been kept much the same with door that one enters and the car entrance etc the same, but just a little different in other ways.
The Dooleys name then shook me for a second as my dad's family were the Doule's and this name is Doule's name is spelled a little different, but yet similar when spoken. It was spelled in various fashions. They lived in the loveliest home next door to us., while I was growing up.) I just was surprised at this and am so glad I did get to see this mansion. My husband was in the Navy, and he was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia and we did live in Virginia during first part of our life together and moved back to NYS by my wishes. My husband was planning to stay in Virginia had I agreed. I did like it there though. Tis video just made all of this make me feel connected a little bit to it all.
If only I knew about this estate and maybe could have even been hired as a tour guide when young yet! Would have loved staying then! This is so beautiful, and this video portrays it all so nicely. Thank you for bringing it to us! Not sure if the summer home is on a video or not, but maybe it is a private home, not sure? Everything is so lovely and cannot wait to see more!

Wow! How interesting! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! I do have a video of their summer house, Swannanoa, a marble palace built in the Blue Ridge Mountains of VA. It is privately owned, but they do give tours. It was once beautiful, however, it fell into disrepair. Thank you so much for sharing all that information! I hope you have a very Merry Christmas!

@@jeepadventures1339 Thank you! I did move on to video of the summer mansion and that is truly gorgeous! The views must be stunning when actually there! To think they moved every year for a vacation because it was too warm for his wife. Heat can be a problem for many.
So glad tours are given now, and it was repaired, refurbished and saved. Both mansions are truly divine and cannot think of many who would not love seeing them, especially in person! Perhaps one day I may be able?!

Yes it’s definitely worth it. It’s rare to see a historic home with so much of the original furnishings. Thanks for watching!
