Chester clearly trusts the cucumber, as he turns his back on it, and doesn't watch it intently. Not sure about love. I wouldn't want to be ignored that much by someone in love with me. He does have a couple of moments of clear enjoyment when he is caressed by the cucumber. Maybe that's a start.
