90125 was released the year I graduated high school. Everyone in the "New Wave" music industry joked about the band of geriatrics putting out a new album. That laughter stopped the day the album dropped because (in my opinion) Yes had created the best New Wave-ish album of all time. When the Chicago based radio station WLUP played the first single, the disc jockey was left speechless for at least 30 seconds after the song. He followed that silence by asking, "What the hell just happened"? The album hit #1 within two days of its release and remained at that spot for six months. Pretty impressive for geriatrics.

@@chopperdeath I love both 90125 and BG. Honestly I love all of the Rabin era material. I like BG a little better than all of them and that is mostly due to the songs I’m Running, Final Eyes and Shoot High Aim Low. Talk is one of their most underrated albums.

I have to agree with you there I don't think there's anybody now that can match him. I also think that yes is very very underrated, compared to their old old stuff 60,70s in regards to leave it very different style.

I agree, However Chris knew EntWhistle CREATED the electric bass guitar. Rabin’s 3.5 albums deserve special treatment- like Dio 4 albums of Black Sabbath AKA Heaven & Hell.

Yeah, I also love the song "Hearts". Strangely it doesn't get mentioned much by others. It's a masterpiece.

My wife passed January this year, complications from Parkinsons. Thankfully - the irony of using that word - she passed in her sleep. To this day I'm still in mourning. That and Rush were playing all the time on my awesome Panasonic Walkman with Dolby, auto reverse and 5 band equalizer. 😁 that whole album as well as the Big Generator album is great. It has been a while since I have listened to this album also. I can say this though, they really did set out to use really different and unique instruments in each of their songs and to showcase them individually. Each song was put together very well and came together in a very different way with this version of the band than with the older version of the band and it still has a very distinctive sound that makes it very much their own sound.

#strawbs Hero and Heroine - (1974) the album is a concept album of a love affair between a young man and his needle. The drug heroin is personified as his lover in a relationship doomed before it ever begins. Aren't any great live videos available (except for the song Hero and Heroine). Any other live versions are largely from Strawbs various performances on the annual boat cruise hosted by Yes..."Cruise to the Edge", and I wouldn't recommend them as a "first" listen. The whole album is out there in UA-cam though.
    Key tracks,
    "Autumn" (the impending doom?)
"Hero and Heroine" ("hero's" adrift )
"Out in the Cold" ("hero" comes to terms with his emptiness)
"Round and Round" ("hero" commits suicide)
"Hero's Theme/Lay a Little Light on Me" ("hero's" anguished pleas and instrumental outtro)
Strawbs went through a few phases of their career. Started as a British folk band, merged into progressive folk, became more "electric" for a couple of albums (Hero & Heroine and Ghosts) and became largely lighter again. Their first keyboardist was Rick Wakeman (before he was in Yes) and David Cousins (band founder and primary writer) has been noted as one of the great "song writers" of the period.
    from Brian in Ottawa (again)

Kel, Yes was finally inducted into Rock N Roll Hall of Fame in 2017. One original member was unable due to his death, bassist, Chris Squire whom Rich was imitating. In his place, one of their buddies from Rush, Geddy Lee played their set during 2017's Ceremony.

So happy this 90125 was released in1983. I was a 17yr old then....and it "revived inspiration and positivity...." . ...especially for me...since I was committed to playing varsity basketball back then.... my first of 2 years. Great post thx Kel n Rich !!!

Guys, even though this comment is way late, you guys are great even with the loss of your son. Bad news like that is hard for me to take even though we don't know each other. Go easy guys. As you's obviously know music has a massive power to help anywhere anytime. Thankyou.

Hey guys look up amongst others who requested O Keefe Music and you will see who is Amor Odio Amor. Which is Love Hate Love translated. I been on here since way back. I started on when Led Rushmore did.

To get the FULL effect of Leave It, you have to see the official video. It is a feel good song.

Yes, as the name implies is a reflection of the positive and you will find that theme, message, and feeling conveyed almost universally throughout their music.

You HAVE TO watch the video for this song (Leave it). It's just them standing there singing but they are up side down. When the music starts their heads and bodies do all sorts of weird shit.

What a great prog rock album. Didn't read all the comments, but 90125 was actually the catalog number of the release. I was in university at the time, and working in a music store when the CD came in. It was very easy to log it in, the catalog number was the same as the title.

I was in L.A. when this came out. And both A.O.R. stations were playing every cuts. There is still good proggy stuff on this lp to please a lot of the prog nerds.
I first heard if Trevor Rabin in the late 70s when his south african band RABBITT came out. I realized back then he had the chops to go onto higher levels.
