The battle of the Goito bridge was the first battle in the first Italian war of independence between the Piedmontese and the Austrians and took place on 8 April 1848. It was also the first battle in which the Piedmontese corps of Bersaglieri participated. The Bersaglieri corps had its baptism of fire on 8 April 1848 when the battle of the Piedmontese army was fought against the Austro-Hungarian army of Field Marshal Radetzky2.
