Money issues, and also lots of their players, young talent ,left the island in order to have a better living..They had a good team until 2004 -2008...then it was just a total collapse. Sad realy
Communism, that's what really is happening to Cuba's national teams (both, women and men). The Cuban volleyball federation DO NOT let Cubans players that play abroad to represent the national team. Then you have more than 50 players from both sex that have real talent useless because of the bureaucracy nonsense. Neither the FIVB do something about it. You have then, Leal (playing for Brazil), León (Poland) and Juantorena (Italy) that are among the best 10 players in the world and cannot play for Cuba. In the women side, is the same, Cuba can assembly two teams and both can be on the top 8 these days. The actual Cuban national team is a sub20 with almost all of the girls under 18. Sad but amazing at the same time to know that Cuban school is NOT dead, not just yet.
Ray Ray I think that on the Men's side, it’s more hurtful such ban, otherwise, Cuba would have a Top 5 team ...but on the women’s side, the damage it’s beyond repair on the women’s national team. it’s something that will have at least a good decade of hard work and playing catch though.USA team, The Dominican Republic, along with Puerto Rico have taken Cuba’s place as the Top nations in NORCECA...and to that group I’d even put Mexico! ..Yeap, it’s really that bad
Marcos Cordero perhaps but..., what about these players: Kenia Carcaces, Yoana Palacios, Rossana Giel, Ana Yilian Cleger, Rachel Sánchez, Liannes Castañeda, Wilma Salas, Alena Rojas, Gyselle de la Caridad Silva, Yenisei González, Daimí Ramírez, Yanelis Santos, Daymara Lescay, Diaris Pérez, Alaima Cesé and many more playing in Turkey, Brazil, Italy, Azerbaijan, Perú, Russia, China & Japan. Don’t you think that with that roster Cuba could be among the top 4 in the world? Just a tip, with some of them, Cuba was 4 in Beijing 2008, silver at Guadalajara 2011 (loosing against Olympic champions Brazil 2-3 in the final). Honestly, with all the respect, the Dominican Republic , Puerto Rico or any other team won’t stand against a true Cuban team. Only Brazil and the United States would be a real threat in the Americas. China, Italy, USA, Brazil, Russia and Cuba would be the top elite with Turkey, Serbia, Netherlands and Japan the near top teams in the world. My opinion...
Cuba this team was in another league. Chinese team looked to slow, clumsy no match for power, speed, variety, agility, technique, tactic, players' skill, footwork and everything. Lai Y.W and the other team players, they were too slow, too clumsy, too lazy to move their feet even though they were underdog.
@@joblessskin I'm sure they can. U forget the excellent blockers carvajal and torres. They all can jump higher then zhu. Cubans from the 90s can beat most modern teams. They're just that good
Equipazo cubano. Lo mejor del vóley mundial, no tienen comparación estas morenas eran extraordinarias...
Que lujo tener a Mireya, Carvajal y Torres en un mismo equipo.
Yes indeed! And there is Regla Bell, Costa, and Izquiero! A super great team 💪👍

Best of Cuban Ladies..... Mereiya Luiz, Regla Torres, Regla Bell, Carvajal, Costa and Izquierda...

I missed watching such great Cuban players. I don't know what happened to them now, no longer in the top 3.

White ball - perfect visible and recognizable, unlike current terrible Graca-Mikasa ball..
I used to play with that kind of ball. It is a bit heavier and harder than today's balls.

I think sun is a very underrated player. it's just the Cubans were just too strong. if it was any other decade she would have shone
