Thank you for the video! The fan fins could not be detached from the housing for me, so I just had to clean the fan with a brush, maybe it is a different model, but I did not want to break it.
One thing to note, these laptops come with multiple variants of the thermal module which use fans made by different manufacturers (FCN, AVC and DELTA from what I was able to find). It is possible that not all fan types allow for the propeller to be easily lifted out of the bearing.
Hello, i have legion 5 2022.. Does the fan same with this video? I want to clean my fan but it looks like the fan can't come out from the heatsink. (Sorry for my bad English)
@@bento9858Hi. It is hard to say without seeing the fans, but I've read online that some of the fan variants use plastic welds instead of screws and can't be taken apart easily. Instead of the screws that are being unscrewed in the video, there will be plastic protrusions. You could cut them off to open the fan, but then it would be difficult to put it back together. Your best bet is probably to use compressed air to clean the fans without taking them apart. In which case it is best to either disconnect the fan cables first, or to make sure that the fans don't spin too fast when blowing air into them, or you could fry components on the motherboard.
@@Max_Mustermann wow thanks for the fast reply, oh i see.. I want to open it because the air not coming out so much when using my laptop, and the temp going 86c.. It feels like something blocking the air to coming out if you know what i mean.. But i will try to use compressed air, thank you very much for the info man, have a nice day and god bless you.
@@bento9858 No problem There might be dust/fluff stuck on your heatsink on the side that is attached to the fans, which blocks the airflow. Not sure if it is possible to detach the heatsink from the fan. If not, you could try to blow compressed air into the exhaust side of the heatsink to blow the dust out. But I wouldn't do it too forcefully, so that the dust doesn't get blown into the fan bearings. Hope this helps and a nice day to you too.
I can't take my fan off the housing, probably different model. So I've Been using small tip Paint brush + isopropyl alcohol to clean those fan for the past 3 years. Works great.
Nice video. Very thorough cleaning (like how I would do it)! Thanks for sharing. For a noisy fan, is there a bearing that can be oiled to quiet it down?
Thanks! Good video, this will come in handy when I will have to replace the thermal paste (it's almost been 3 years), I've tried cleaning the fans before, but they cannot open from the top side because they're fused with the copper pipes (which sucks) I found this out while I was going to clean them and almost ended up bending the metal frame of the fans (it's tightened with screws so it looks like it can come off but on the top it's fused together with the pipes which is not that obvious at first sight). It kinda sucks that you have to disassemble the whole cooling system just to replace one fan, but it's better than nothing. Also I saw you replace the thermal paste, wouldn't it also be a good idea to change those thermal pads while you're at it?
If the fan unit doesn't wanna come out, just blow air gently. It will be good enough. Also you can reuse the silicon thermal pads. Dont need to replace.
@@computergeeksrepair I have some fans that look the same but they will not come apart from the base if I use anymore force I would start to bend the fins so the newer ones might not come apart so you know.
There are multiple variants of the thermal module used in this model with the fans being made by different companies (AVC, FCN and Delta). It seems that the blades can be taken out easily only on some fan types, the ones in the video being the Delta variant.
Thanks. Usefull, just my blade on left, got broken. Checking if can replace only blades, fan, and see that it is possible in some versions.greedy lenovo wants all the unit to be replaced together... instead of a tiny pice of a plastic blade replacement.
I have a friend who found replacement fans but the top black part is riveted and I don't have anything small enough to get them out I am going to try and clean everything up and see if mine still make noise. I don't see anything with a part number on the box he gave me.
@@computergeeksrepair ok, i swapped the fan and put some honeywell on my laptop, it dropped the temps from 101 C to 86 C while playing BG3. Thx for sharing the step-by-step teardown tutorial bro :)

I have the same model and one of my fan is squeaky and stiff. When I use my laptop it sounds like an idle truck in my room. My question is can I just buy the fan component and fix it myself like you did in your video with the correct tools?
@@Max_MustermannFor me it was the fan on the left! i Installing the new fan + heat sink also gave me trouble as I had stripped screws and the alignment of the unit was so off :(
@@Tuffkins Sorry to hear that. I was considering replacing the GPU fan myself in mine as the bearing slowly got louder over time. But in the end decided to extend the warranty instead in case the problem gets worse, which cost around the same as a new fan would.
@@AjayJadhav09 nope. for now temporarily i went to a shop and they ran that fan with 2V supply- and that got it fixed. no noise for now. but this is temp fix. so need to buy a new one later in the future.
Repairing it at Lenovo cost too much money, so I replaced it myself after watching this video. Thank you.
With the help of this video, I was able to replace my Legion 5 fans, one of which seemed to have bad bearings. Thanks for sharing this!
do you replace the whole fan or only the bearings?
because i have the same problem to, the fan seems rocking and produce some noise
mine are having the same problem what fans did you order?
Very nicely done. Unlike some other "Techs" I've seen do these, you actually cleaned off and replace the thermal paste.
WELL DONE!
Excellent video! I opened up mine 5 months in to isntall an ssd and was surprised at the amount of trash inside just a few months in. Thanks.
Glad it helped!

Is the black tape that’s on the outside edge of each of the fan units important in any way?
@lizzie2688 not really. It just keeps the air through the fins on the radiator. A tiny bit of leaky air doesn't harm any cooling efficiency.
should you put the tape back to it's position or is it unecessary?
no need....
