The improved 9k515 Tornado-S was upgraded with the special GLONASS satellite navigation system used in the Smerch missile system. The 9k515 Tornado-S has guided rocket rounds enabling it to fire out to 72 miles (120 km). The 9k515 Tornado-S has a longer range and increased effectiveness, due to the use of new warhead payloads and a reduced launch readiness time of just three minutes. The 9k515 Tornado-S approved for service in July-August 2016 and started its serial deliveries.
На предприятии «Сплав» были созданы РСЗО нового поколения серии «Торнадо». «Торнадо-C» представляет собой глубокую модернизацию 9К58 «Смерч». На вооружение начало поступать с конца 2016 года. Состав РСЗО 9К515 «Торнадо-С»: боевая машина (БМ) 9А54; транспортно-заряжающая машина (ТЗМ) 9Т255; учебно-тренировочный комплекс, средства автоматической системы управления огнем (АСУНО), автомобиль топографической привязки (топопривязчик) и метеорологическая машина. Дальность ведения огня до 120 км, в перспективе с возможностью увеличения до 200 км. При стрельбе залпом рассеивание снарядов не превышает 0,3 % от дальности стрельбы. Залп одной боевой машины реактивными снарядами калибра 300 мм, оснащенными кассетной головной частью с 72 кумулятивно-осколочными элементами, поражает площадь до 67,2 га. Время свёртывания и покидания огневой позиции боевой машиной комплекса БМ 9А54 после залпа составляет около 1 минуты. Экипаж боевой машины сокращён до 3 человек.

This MRLS system is so underrated too. With new guided missiles that are based on Glonass, it has the accuracy of an Kalibr cruise missile. Since it can reach out to 120km, they could just bring it 90km from the front lines and fire. It can shoot and scoot too. Since the range is so long, no artillery is going to be able to fire back. Having something like this 50km-90km from the frontline is so much quicker then calling in an airstrike or launching cruise missiles. It can also surprise the enemy. A single Tornado-S far from the frontline is like having 6 airstrikes to call on any time you need it. Reloading time is fast too, but these MRLS usually work in groups. This is one of the best investments Syria could get if they ever decided to buy
This weapon system including ballistic rockets is underrated. However cruise missiles are fully overrated. In WW 2, both types of rockets have there origin in germany. German V 1 rocket, father of cruise missile, coulb be easily shot down by AA guns/weapon systems! Since the creation of supersonic rockets in these weapon systems it's more complicated. Ballistic rockets like the german V 2 rocket are by far more terrifying! More advanced guiding systems, didn't effect them much since WW 2. In fact there is one point of difference between Russia and USA. Russia's weapon systems are operating under every condition and are field tested👍

Wow, really big rockets for a MLRS. This thing packs a strong punch and a impressive range.
And is way more efficient than regular artillery, you can saturate a zone with rockets really fast and relocate before the enemy have time to counter you.

It is capable of destroying anything in the area of 67 hectares, which is about 100 football fields(and this is just one vehicle). Basically, this missile system is next to nuke, when it comes to firepower.
It depends if they're unguided like the flamethrower Rockets or many other Russian unguided missile systems then it'll be pretty ineffective

One thing the Russians have always prioritised more than anything else under real combat conditions is the ability to sustain their hardware in the field with minimal resources - behind enemy lines if needed.

Not even close, but they are impressively well made and a battery of these can land some devastating fire.
There are plenty of munitions in use by a variety of countries more destructive than this... the thermobaric weapons the US and Russia Deploy are an example (MOAB and the russian FOAB) Russia and America both have cruise missile launchers that can unleash a devastating explosions too. But it is a proud achievement of the Russian Military, I say that as an American, i'm damn impressed by the system.

Actually, there's nothing to catch up to. There's no equivalent to Russian mlrs in US arsenal. Russia has always been leading in the way of artillery and indirect fire systems.
Please don't misunderstand me. I'm not saying that as an insult. It's just that American and Russian combat strategies are not comparable and therefore their military equipment are also not comparable. Lot of people make the mistake of comparing the performance numbers of US and Russian equipment and claim one is superior. But they are wrong.
America, due to being surrounded by sea on both sides, mostly centered their military strategies around naval and aerial warfare. Russia on the other hand is surrounded by land(and mostly unfriendly nations, unfortunately) centered their military strategies around land based warfare.

But do you know what the big problem with secret weapons are? You can not test those in public or in a battle somewhere in the middle east because you dont want your secret weapon to be seen by your rivals.
Just imagin, you have been attacked or you are attacking a major power and you want to surprise him with a totally new high tech weapon (lets say the F-35) that you have capped secret until now.
So now you have a F-35 that has not been tested propaply and we all can see how much have been fixed to just make it safe for the pilot to fly. The war would be over bevore such a complicated plane can fight in battle.
Also your industry is probably not prepared to build the plane in large quantities. You know, such a big and complex project does need a lot of high tech components.
Even the F-35 is obsolete when comparing with the latest up and coming "tools" extreme lasers, lightweight and requiring no ammo as well as hypersonic and electromagnetic power combined into nano weaponry
