  • I highly recommend soaking the bolts and bearings with PB Blaster or equivalent for this job a few days before if you're a DIY'er
I also recommend some sort of plan to remove this if you are anywhere where rust is common. These things can rust weld themselves to the knuckle of the car very easily.
I spent an entire day hitting the same wheel bearing on the same car on the other side.
I have used this same style tool around 100 times before it failed.
The one I used in the video is here:
    amzn.to/3uSNT01
The wheel bearing I used is here:
    amzn.to/47PxyHI
However, use whatever you want and are comfortable with.
Just if you're still here please plan to have that thing be extremely stubborn on removal.

I had to replace both hub assemblies on my 2016 Subaru Crosstrek. I was on a time crunch and wanted to buy one of these. I couldn't wait so I made my own with metal I had left over from other projects. I changed the design a bit though. I made the backing plate to fit the entire hub. Each stud had a hole . I welded the two foot piece of square tubing over one stud hole. Then made a gusset at a 45 degree angle. I welded to the tubing then welded the gusset between the two lower studs. This allowed me to put four nuts on the lower four studs. After mounting the tool I put my floor jack under the lower control arm and applied some pressure to the suspension. This eliminates any bounce. It took four wacks with my sledge hammer and it came out. This hub had never been replaced in over 80,000 miles. The other side had been replaced a year and a half earlier and only took two wacks with the sledge. I live on a dirt road between two low water bridges, so my car crosses water several times a day. They were rusted pretty bad and I did a brake job while everything was apart.
One other piece of advice for someone doing this job for the first time, remove the wheel sensor before removing your hubs. Allot of the videos I have watched people leave them in. It's one small bolt holding that sensor in place. This way you have no chance of damaging your sensor.

I seen the yellow bearing buster used on a youtube video a couple years ago when I was having difficulty removing my old 02 obs front hub. So upon seeing that and struggling so much I decided to craft a similar tool. Instead of mounting it directly to the hub though i've realized that it works far better to mount an old brake rotor to the hub backwards then mount the tool to it. I guess it just helps distribute the impact more idk but usually 3-4 whacks does the trick.

What also works every time is to tap two of the rear holes for the hun mount with m14 x 1,5 thread in two bolts from the back and then from the front insert a 2-3 ball bearings and then thread in original bolts from the front side and impact them slowly and walk that hub right out!!

Where do you put 2-3 ball bearings? Thank you

@@kevinrue8325 in the space where the bolts used to be that secured the hub\ bearing to the knuckle. After you tap the back of knuckle and insert a couple bolts from the back there you then insert 2-3 ball bearings in the hole and then screw in the original bolts and slowly tighten going back and forth between bolts until the bearing/hub works itself out of the knuckle

Question for you Brucey. Got a 2015 OB. Nail in tire side. Geolander TA with 18k on them. Can I get away with replacing just 2 on an axle or need to do all 4 with the 60/40 allwheel drive?

I would just replace all 4, personally.

Whatever the strongest largest ones I had in the shop. I want to say they're grade 8 1/2" bolts.

The company that made the oem is sks it is still made in Japan not china. I ordered the bearing and the hub tamer and will do battle next week. Just a hint. You do not have to disassemble the park brake shoes for the bearing insert yo can use a light grease any kind you do not need anti seize . Also torque all bolts and restake the nut for the axle after torque torque your lug nuts as well.

get your parts from online subaru dealers, Moog has a bad rep these days.

What sucks is I've heard bad things about OEM, Moog, Timken, of course Detroit Axle, etc. There doesn't seem to be a good part anymore from anybody.
OEM failing at 100k is pretty pathetic.
