Farm Animals Protect Chicken Friend from Hawk Attack || Dogtooth Media

- These farm animals transformed into heroes like those in tear-jerking cartoon Animals of Farthing Wood - as a goat and rooster rushed to save their chicken pal as it was attacked by a hawk.
Jaap Beets was standing in his farmhouse in Gelderland, Netherlands, on September 5 when he heard loud screaming from his livestock outside.
Incredible CCTV footage showed a goshawk as it dive-bombed one of his brown chickens, sending feathers flying all over the paddock.

That feeling when a chicken has better friends than you do.
Sadly - it DOES.😢
😂 😢
No surprise there
relatives too
😂awww who beat you ?
As someone who owns goats I can say that if they find an excuse to headbutt something, anything, they will freaking go for it, something like "I've been waiting for this moment my entire life"
Hopefully for the goat it isn't a ram.
made my day xD
🤣
So gun owners in Florida are goats?
😂😂😂😂
I was attacked by a rooster as a toddler, they don't screw around. I was a bloody mess and almost lost an eye.
I now have a rooster that looks just like the one that attacked me. We are buddies, he guards his hens ferociously but he also warns me if someone is coming up behind me. He also kills mice and moles and leaves them at my front door to show me his good works. He's awesome!
It's food for you
His kills are gifts to you. My mother used to rent a home that had many windows on one side. Birds would mistakenly try to fly through them. (The owner would not allow her to do anything structurally. And her attempts to disguise the windows helped, but wasn’t always successful.) Anyways, for the ones that didn’t die immediately and were injured, she would nurse them back to health. Even her cats, would stand guard to protect them from predators- other cats, dogs, birds of prey, us, etc. She was careful to make sure they didn’t get too comfortable, and encourage them to be on their way when ready.
Every. Damn. Day…we’d get home from school and somebody would find a dead or nearly dead creature on the front and back porches. From the birds she nursed back to health. As kids we didn’t quite understand and thought Mom was nuts. Because she’d yell and scream at the birds flying low or hopping up to drop off a gift…yet, she’d smile softly and wipe a tear away she thought we didn’t notice. Mad about the new creature she’d have to nurse or bury, but so happy that her patients survived well enough that they thought to thank her in the best way they knew how.
Grandmas cat used to bring her half dead mice. Into the kitchen. She would hide them in her fur to get them into the kitchen. Then proudly release them when Grandma came in - who would reprimand the cat. But she did it anyways, for many years.
Glad you overcame, I assume, your fear.
Also helps that your probably 6x its size now lol
A rather ill-tempered tall black rooster used to try to shred my shins when I'd enter the chicken yard to scatter feed, so I started using the lid off the plastic trash can the feed was stored in as a shield. He'd launch himself at that lid anyway, both feet clawing madly. He never figured out that I was friend, not foe, but his head was so tiny (despite his height) that his brain must have been about the size of a lentil. I realized he was acting essentially on pure instinct, and looking out for his hens. Okie-dokie, pal.
Roosters are incredibly noble animals. They will give their life in any fight to protect their flock.
I like how the goat assesses the situation: at first he's just approaching, unsure whether it's just in-fighting between two chickens, then starts picking up speed as he notices that it's a real deal emergency
Gilgosseyn, it looks to me like the goat waits to see if his boy the rooster is going to handle it, but sees that rooster needs back up! Then goat is ON.
I don't think anyone wants to get close to a fight between two chickens. Only roosters can deal with that violence and brutality a d cruelty. Lol chickens have a lot of drama and roosters keep that under control. Its always a good idea to have a rooster if you want to keep chickens. Plus, roosters protect the chickens from predators. They can FIGHT. Its why cock fighting (next to dog fighting) has historically been popular and still is in many places. Despit the barbarism and cruelty about it.
Did you know, the reason no one hears about pit bull attacks everyday on the news anymore like in the 80s ans 90s in the US is because the federal government cracked down on dog fighting. And in the last couple years animal cruelty (as dog fighting is legally chatergorized) is a felony and if you get convicted of it, you get put on an FBI watch list. Surpising that took so long since they have made the connection back in the 70s when they started researching serial killers about thr common behavior of animal cruelty before moving to humans, and psychology and research tell us that people who abuse or neglect animals or pets, ALSO abuse and harm humans. Florida h1s tried to pass a bill to give training to social workers to look for signs of animal abuse or neglect as well for this very reason, but some in Florida think that social workers are overworked too much already and children should be the only priority, esp when animal abuse and neglect is "so rare". (I believe, in an article about it, one of the politicians agaisnt the bill used a quote from a social worker, saying they had never even heard of a case of animal cruelty on the job as proof that it is rare. Even though i don't, as an English major and law student understand how that suppprts their argument. If it was never part of their job to look out for them, WHY would they hear about other social workers seeing it? it was never a sign to look for and it was not something that went into a report.) It isnt. Its VERY prevalent. It just doesn't get very much attention, becausz even someone who wouldnt directly cause harm to an animal, think animals are not as important, or worthy of protection as humans are. And very few bring attention to or investigate animal abuse, cruelty, or neglect and people get annoyed when shelters ans rescues try to do, or vegans or animal rights activists because a lot of people dont want to think about such horrible ans depressing things. Anyway, ill shut up now.
@@alyssaheller7860 That's very understandable. I saw a case recently where a man that enjoyed abusing kittens and other animals as a youth, ended up killing his gf, their unborn baby, then proceeded with killing his gf two children along with another little girl that was sleeping over, but not before r wording his gf 11 yr old daughter. The connection is very likely there, but like you've said, people find disdain in acknowledging such matters at times. However, I digress, seeing as how this is a lovely little video, and not connected to such a heavy topic.
Real Deal Emergency 😊😊😊

Goats are so underrated in the animal kingdom. They can be very expressive with their bleats. Just a quick story: Few years ago, I was walking to work when i heard a goat bleating in its enclosure on the side of the road. I shouldn't have paid much attention but its bleats were so expressive as a cry for help , that it made my walk stop instantly, I could really hear it asking for help, so i went to check and saw that its horns were stuck on the soft steel wire mesh fence. He stayed very calm for the minute it took to remove its horns from the wires. When it was finally released, i heard one of the most expressive "Thanks" i ever heard... and it was from a goat bleat. It then proceeded to jump around a few times before going away. Still to this day , it gives me a smile when i think about it.
As one who raises goat, I can attest to that. Out of all my 20 Savannah goats, every one of them has a unique voice all their own. They have different vocals for different things: Food, greetings, Help! I’m in labour! And all that.
I think bottle raising a set of twins was the most interesting that I ever learned in how to help these orphan twins to mentally grow properly into goats and not “little humans” I actually had to learn proper nanny greeting and nursing bleats as well as making sure they spent lots of time with other goats. Both are now well socialized but still always come running to greet me and in the same way: they make gentle bleats and nuzzle my face and sniff my breath. Once I’ve done that, they wag their tails and follow me around the pen.
Me and my husband were riding down a long drive way out in the country when we saw a goat with its horns stuck in the fence too. We stopped and my husband got it out for him. We went on to this house and on the way back that goat had his horns stuck in the fence AGAIN. We stopped again and my husband got it out and we went on. I wonder how many times it takes before they learn? LOL.
Bleeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaatttttttttt Thank you!!!! 🙂
I too have seen those videos. So beautiful.

Im shocked how well they helped the chicken, the goat wasn't just randomly attacking anything either, it knew to go for the hawk.

Hawks are the biggest anxiety for me when it comes to my chickens, and I’ve been fortunate to never lose one to a hawk. I did lose a couple chicks to a cat (it bypassed my dogs and a cage to kill and then not eat them.) But twice now I’ve seen them stalking the chickens, both times I was able to shoo them away by waving my hat and shouting. Both times the chickens went running and the hawk diverted its dive.
And yeah, chickens make great pets, I don’t think of mine as livestock either.

There's solidarity against predators among the preys, and this goes beyond the species. I remember that documentary where an adult whale prevented a scuba diver to dive in, because she was aware a big shark was just underneath. Nice video.
That was a chilling story. For those that don’t know she was a marine biologist and she was studying humpback whales. During her swim a male humpback started pushing her around. He tried to keep the woman on his head and belly. He even lifted her out of the water for a second when a tiger shark got too close. I believe this is why early American farmers often mixed a few goats in with herds of sheep. Under attack from predators, sheep lose their minds and become more vulnerable, whereas goats take charge and are able to give them at least a fighting chance with their greater intelligence and courage.
Never knew that…
Depends on the sheep too. There's a "wild" breed in Scotland that don't behave like normal sheep. They don't flock together, but hide all over the place.
a good ram will do the trick
Donkeys are very protective of the herd. Doesn’t matter what the hard is comprised of. (Edited because my tablet is stupid)
@@stuckgrenadepin.225 Donkeys, goats, and even llamas can make great herd guards.
This is just beautiful. Its amazing to see how well animals bond when they live together. Theyre a little family.

I want a buddy like the first rooster, defending with courage
I have many roosters and they defend their flock from predators.
@@cazgreen we had a rooster that tried to fend off a hawk that was lurking outside of the fence (we also have nets so none of them get in). Our brave young rooster was so keen on getting to the hawk that he put his head through the fence, which the hawk cut right off. Well, its was still attached, but barely.

What an amazing rescue! The hawk really had that chicken under control when the others dashed in. I'm amazed it was another hen, not rooster, and a goat!!! What pals!
Animal cries are so telling. One day in a swanky neighborhood I was living in, a suburb of LA, I heard a puppy wailing for help. You could not ignore those cries, yet most people walking down the street did just that. I knocked on my neighbor's house where the cries were coming from but no answer, no car in driveway. I went around to the back yard, let myself in, and found a puppy had fallen into the pool and was drowning. OMG! Poor thing. I rescued the pup, left a note on their door, and took it home with me across the street to dry out and recover. When they came back, they were immensely grateful. As it turned out they were babysitting a friend's puppy, and foolishly left it outside with an open pool. It would have drowned for sure if I had not 'broken in' to their backyard. You have to listen to animal sounds, they are just as expressive as human ones. Even fish and snakes sound the alarm.
I think the other one is a rooster.
The other chicken was a rooster. The roosters attack any threats to the hens.

I lived on a farm for many years. Animals are so much like little kids. They can fuss and fight and never seem to get along. Yet one new animal comes in and starts picking on or hurting another. Watch out, he can get a whole flock, pack or herd of other animals on him in a second. Family is family, no matter what!
Wow that is some true loyalty and friendship between those animals! Amazing
But what of the hawk, what will it eat, berries? The hawk is suffering because it's hungry and whatever it finds to eat will suffer from being killed? It's an endless cycle of suffering and as such, the whole life project on earth should end.
We all know dogs are, but goats, geese, and donkeys are very protective too.
And chickens too ☺️
Donkeys are savage defenders.
So are turkeys.
I fuckin hate geese ! Just minding my own business and they start hissing at me 😂 not to mention always blocking the road when I’m trying to drive by lol
If that had been a donkey, that hawk would not have been able to fly anywhere that day. Or ever😂
It is amazing how much controlled force the goat was using. Not enough to hurt his friend but enough to be in the way.
And the bravery of the other chicken not caring about its own safety. This could have gone south real fast.
Sure hope the crew got extra treats for this! Scary to watch but thankfully a good ending and a lesson we can all learn about friendship and having someone's back.
I once saw two crows fighting a big hawk - high in the sky. They were struggling desperately. Just when it looked like the crows were getting worn out, two more crows came steaming in and drove away the hawk.
The Rooster ran up FEARLESS! Then the goat as soon as he saw what was happening....Mother Nature is so awesome! ( so are farm animals that protect each other!!!! )

This is just so wholesome. It goes to show that animals, especially those not often kept as pets, are a lot more interesting and emotionally complex than we often give them credit for.

I’ve seen plenty of humans not be half as loyal when a brawl brakes out as that first chicken was!
because we are humans vs humans ...need somebody else to save us
Because humans actually think of consequences. Clearly you're not.
Let me give you a real example:
A friend of mine while walking at night away from a club saw a woman being harassed by two other men. He went and tried to stop those men. Next thing they started to fight, my friend landed a punch that knocked one of the men on the ground. The guy hit his head and later died.
Guess what happened, my friend spent 3 years in jail. He tried to defend someone but ended up killing a person *unintentional that is* but still is not considered self defense.
So now tell me, when my friend will get out of jail , what do you think ? Will he help another person when in a similar situation? Will the person that was saved give a shit about my friend ? NO . The stupid person didn't even want to testify in court, she literally left the scene before the cops got there.
Also, people like you blaming "humanity" for not doing things are actually the ones not doing a single thing to help others.
That was a Rooster. Roosters care for and defend their flock of hens.
Aurora, ikr? He took it so personally! I thought it was hilarious tbh. Plus he talks about humans thinking of consequences and proceeds to tell a story of someone not thinking of consequences… 🤦🏻
@@adastraa11 That's what he actually did . He is not a violent person at all. The two guys jumped on him as soon as he stepped forward to defend the girl.
Bottom line of my initial comment is that i can't stand people on the internet that think everything is honey and sugar in this world. You step up for someone and risk everything without even knowing it. And in the end nothing matters, you're the one taking the hit.
It's amazing how you can tell how careful the goat was being in targeting the hawk whilst not trying to hurt his chicken friend at all.

There's the real hero of this battle. Without this other chicken's intervention this could have been over in less than a minute.
