What a blessing to hear Dr. Thomas speak about his own preaching. I took Dr. Thomas's course "Preaching as Celebration" in the DMin in Preaching program in Chicago, and it changed my preaching and my life. And now I am seeing I have so much more to learn now.

I have missed Pastor Frank's voice since Mississippi Boulevard. I was not a member, but I visited often. The depth of the sermons and the spiritual layering and unlayering were just what I needed. When I just heard the term "contemplative preaching," I thought, "That's it!" Thank you for contributing your gifts toward the diversity of the African American preaching. Bless you in your journey now.

For the True Worshippers of God, there is no Rev Dr. titles in scripture nor in the era of the church. Jesus had no academic / scholastic background. Now many who affirm they are pastors excercise more wisdom than Jesus. The Holy Spirit is the guide for believers not academia. No Baptist Church in scripture. There is one true church per Jesus to Peter. That church came into fruition in Acts.

What you said sounds good but it's not biblical. Eph. 4:11. Read that. It should help you to understand.

      John 13:16 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord;
Ephesians 4:11 lays out the varied callings of God's servants. Keep in mind the Apostles had oversight over the local church Elders / Bishops. Bishops did not have oversight or control over any other pastor or gatherings.
Jesus called out men to be Disciples / Apostles not theologians.
Psalms 111:9 "He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his name"
No hu(man) has the title of Reverend in scripture but God. Eminence, Arch Bishop, Rev. Dr. are all ungodly titles because scripture says God will not give his glory to another and those titles reflect pride. Isaiah 42:8
"I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images."
      1Corinthians1:26
For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. Why? Because man would pervert scripture for his own glory.

Many of the false / in error churches of this day ( only one true church ) request candidates for pastor present academic degrees, credit reports, ordination and license, etc. No post church ( Acts ) ordinances support such. Man looks on the outward appearance. Giving a pastor a salary or offering to reach a sermon is ungodly. Matthew 10:8. The word of God has no charge. Pastor's salary is to be based of his care for the members of the Body of Christ.
Isaiah 56:11 "Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are shepherds that cannot understand: they all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter."
No scripture where Apostle Paul ( a learned man pre conversion ) asked, requested or accepted money for himself expositing the gospel.

One Lord, (Jesus ), One Faith ( onJesus ), and one Baptism ( in Jesus name ). No scripture tells men / women to be baptized in three titles, viz., Father, Son and Holy Ghost. No scripture shows anyone being baptized in those titles , Matthew 28:19.
      Luke 24:47
"And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem".
The true " church" began at Jerusalem. Peter conveyed to Jesus " thou art the Christ the son of the living God. Peter's faith ( Apostolic) that Jesus was God's son sealed it. Hence, The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostles Faith.
      God Bless

You said there were no titles in scriptures. As far as your other claim that they are smarter than jesus, you are the only one who feels that way. In no way do they give any notion that they are smarter than christ. Of course Jesus didn't have to go to seminary, He's Jesus. But the disciples studied under Jesus. Paul study under Gamlia. Joshua study under moses so forth and so on. If there were a degree program back in biblical times, they would have their dr. Degree.
