This vid illustrates perfectly why I almost always put the word "dupe" or "dupes" in quotation marks. There are TONS of eyeshadows on the market that use identical or very similar pigments, yet the formula used to press them (or not in the case of loose pigments) can change not only the mica particle size, but the overall depth of the base hue. Then you factor in grade of pigments used. For instance, clionadh may be using an A grade pigment whereas a brand like looxi or pfyf may be using a C or D grade. It's why we may see differences in overall sparkle, shine, shift, etc. It can also account for pricing differences. Brands aren't going to tell consumers this information. It's something you either learn over time from being a singles collector or by getting into making cosmetics. It's also why when I occasionally do comparisons in stories I try to notate that while two shades may be pigment "dupes" the formula makes them different. As for how they will look on the eye? Probably very similar with slight differences in shine, shift, sparkle & depth of base. So all that said, do I consider all of these "dupes"? Pigment "dupes" absolutely. 😅*wall of ivy/m51 & quasar/tiul are the exceptions from this group of comparisons as they're not pigment "dupes"
I would definitely say that Sublunar and Titania are complete dupes to one another. It's crazy they're from the same brand with being almost the exact same except for particle size. Titania is one of my ultimate favorite shades along with Halo of Stars. I thought I owned M51 but it was Space Case. I'll have to pick that one up soon ❤ Thanks for sharing
So this is really interesting to think about. I sort of consider all these what I like to call “functional dupes”. They aren’t exact duplicates of each other. But the purpose/concept of them is the same. They have small differences and ideally you’d choose the one that most fits your style/preference; such as being more into smooth vs chunky texture or being more into strong color bases versus sheer bases, or wanting either a warmer or cooler version of the same shifts. They’re like opposite sides of the same coin. I hope that made some sort of sense. 😅

same shade/shift but different formula can go either way for me in the dupe bucket. i have sublunar and i love the bigger particle size. had i just had titania though, i wouldn't buy sublunar just for that, even though i'd likely prefer it because it gets the job done, y'know?
Same for me! For me it depends a lot on how much I like the eyeshadows being compared too. If it’s one of my favs I’m more likely to care about minute differences haha

I just got my first clionadh order and got a few dupes (on my skin tone). Revenge by sbsd and Tessera. The next one threw me for a loop because one looks blue in the pan and the other is green but Alsephina from TM and Emblem are exactly the same somehow on my eyes. There might be the slightest difference in the shade of the pink flip. Alsephina's pink is slightly more fuchsia or purple leaning in some lighting but identical on me other than that. I wasn't expecting it with the different base colors but noticed the similarities as soon as I swatched it. Also I have enceladus too but it just looks like a straight silver on me. I've never seen any purple or gold in any lighting. The only other color besides silver I get is a soft blue when the light hits it just enough to make you question if you actually saw it or not lol That's so interesting how drastically different they can look on people with the same skin tone just different under tones.
I have a video on recommendations of where to start for beginners! in terms of brands i would recommend Clionadh or Terra Moons if you’re in the US or Canada, and Glamshop if you’re in the EU

Do you think it’s possible to reduce the particle size of a flaky shade like Sublunar by mixing it up into a paste with alcohol and working it over with a glass muller? I actually tried it because I find it unwearable as it is, but I was maybe a little too cautious, only did it a little bit before rep-pressing, and only saw a small difference. I’m thinking of trying it again also with Ganymede and a couple others. 2. Do you think Falling Star from TM is similar enough to Clionadh Statue Garden to call it a dupe? 3. Is there a dupe for Clionadh Quest in the purples from TM or SBSD, maybe Phantom Galaxy or Permaheart? Ok sorry for all the questions, really appreciate your content. Thanks!

Thank you for watching! 🥰 1- this is honestly a GREAT question and I have enough multichrome pigments in my collection that I can try for science, over the weekend I will try with a small sample and see what happens! 2. Believe it or not I don’t have falling star from TM! From what I understand that’s more of a purple flash from straight on and statue garden is more of a pink / red. I think it’s actually a lot closer to Made on Mars from TM but it has a deeper base 3. I actually just ordered quest from Clionadh during their sale so I will do comparisons once I get it!!

They’re doing a collab with a creator, Krystal Clear Makeup, and a lot of people aren’t thrilled about it. She was against vaccine mandates during Covid and from what I understand some of the people she followed during that time posted racist content, as well. Some consumers weren’t happy about TM’s response to the whole situation, too. It was a thing. Anyway, Boo’s Beauty and Kathryn B were among those who did videos about it on YT since they were upset.
I 100% think these are all dupes. Every. Last. One. Lol I can’t believe Terra Moons had the AUDACITY to make a flakier formula of the same shade and not mention that in the description…..

The worst smelling eyeshadows I've ever bought were from Simply Posh. My TOGB shadows smell a little but nothing compared to SP.

Niello is more similar to tm cosmic collision. Enceladus doesn't have the strong purple & yellowy gold in cosmic collision & niello 🤗
