Your door opening is actually tight, I’m a contractor and have had to deal with some pretty hefty gaps lol, and you should use long screws in your hinges especially the top and exterior doors all the hinges especially if you’re door is heavy, looks great guys
yes at least 1 long screw in the hinge side and 2 on the latch brad nails will move just saying
each hinge
Thank you James! We will keep all this in mind!😁
Hi guys.
Just a safety tip.
STOP CRISSCROSSING YOUR HANDS ON THE CHOP SAW.
If you have a board on the right side of the saw, hold it down with your right hand and control the saw with your left hand.
If your board is on the left side of the saw , hold the board down with your left hand and control the saw with your right hand.
Try getting comfortable using both hands using the saw.
When you crisscross your hands, and the saw jumps, the saw can come right at you and you can loose fingers or an arm..
SAFETY FIRST. and zero trips to the hospital. I've seen lost fingers.
I'm a teacher and I'm OSHA certified.
I'm enjoying you and your family on your journey. 28:02
OMG! The cookie break!!! GIVE THAT GIRL A COOKIE!!! SOOOOO stinking cute! That made my day.
😁😁
Can’t forget ...how is just adorable and smart your elegant helper 😊...and feeling very excited about her work🎉......and of course your moving on...I love your kitchen❤ and I lobe your kitty too...kkk...I love kitties, I have had kitties ever since I can remember ☺️
She’s so so smart. Ugh she is getting too big! 🥹 I can’t wait till we can get to the final product!
We're repairing/rebuilding from Ida (thank you insurance companies for the struggle) we know what it's like to have the shower curtain doors and we'll raise you thick black plastic sheeting walls. We are currently having the floors installed, so we have kids sleeping in closets because they're the only places mostly finished. We also have what we have not so effectionately calling the "hurricane refugee kitchen" no cabinets, a laundry utility sink hanging precariously from the wall & fridge on the back porch. The two rooms upstairs have two queen size beds in each room as 6 of the 7 of our clan are banking up. Also our 5 yr old is so ready to get her mom & da out of her room that she literally packed the whole room & moved it into the storage pod! With the floors going down we currently have a temporary make shift living/dining room in the master bedroom, but no ceiling, we have two reclining sofas in our kitchen & everything else in either storage or the garage, and by everything I need to point out that with our washer & dryer in the door way, there is no way for us to get to our fridge & freezer or the microwave that we had set up thinking we'd spend most of our time there. Luckily we have some really great people in our friend group that have been bringing us meals. All in all this past two years has been quite the trial-and-error phase of our lives because due to the delay in insurance money, we've have to do 95% of the demo & haul off, 100% mold remission, 75% insulation installers 50% of our drywall hanging and finishing, learn electrical, learn plumbing, become simi-profreshional tilers & in the very near future cabinets builders & whole house painters & finishers OURSELVES! Oh & we'll be dry pouring new patio slabs as well. But it's happening!!!!
Heather we are very sorry to hear that you and your family are going through this. The eye of hurricane Rita, Laura, and Delta came through our area. They cause so much damage to this area and it will never be the same. We can definitely emphasize with your situation. We hope that your progress moves quickly and y’all receive many blessings!
Jim when trimming windows and doors you can install your vertical pieces then cut a 45° on one side of your horizontal piece then flip it upside down with your 45’s touching on one side and mark your other side and make your cut make your cut proud so you can fine tune it
Thank you Freddie!
OMG -- I am flat dog gone in love with the superhot kitty. And the munchkin that loves cookies. Keep up the absolutely wonderful videos, and please, please, always take time out to love on the kitty and the munchkin!! 🥰🥰😍😍
😁
OK, OK, doors are nice I guess, but........."I need a cookie!" 😁😂🥰
🤣🤣🤣 we will bring the cookies, y’all bring the milk
When I lived in southern Alabama, I put up yellow rope lights, they didn't attract bugs (skeeters, etc.). They lasted for years, we had to wipe them down every few months, but they worked well.
Awesome!!
If you do your shimmering from the inside you can use the shims to set the gap between the door and door stop so it's even on all sides.
Awesome! Thank you John!
Awesome video... Nice to see you are getting her excited about cooking at a young age. All my kids had 1 night a week that was their night to cook "with help along the way" and now they all can cook and enjoy it. You guys have a wonderful family and it's so nice to see with everything going on with our world at the momment.
Thank you so much!
Glad to see that y'all are feeling a lot better. Outstanding job on the door installation. 👌👍👍👍👍
Thank you Timothy!❤️ the rain has been going around us, but this heat.. 🥵
Good job you guys. It was fun watching the door strike the top door frame. It never fails! No matter how square you think you have it… but shims will always take care of it and as you learned, trim covers up everything. Also, I still gotta say I love how those cabinets turned out. Stay cool!
Thank you Mr. Timothy! Hope that y’all are doing great!
23:15 that was the cutest thing ever of Ladley ❤. Great video guys. Doors make a big difference, especially for the bathroom 😂. Loving the details of it coming together
Thank you Terence!
When think ya nailed it... house shifts over time.
Jim (Capt Croc) I would advise you to remove all of those short door screws, they are only in there to keep the door to the frame from manufacturer, so make sure the door frame has something behind it so when you use the longer screws it wont pull the frame out of plum, looks good y'all, yeah and Im glad y'all are feeling better. Hopefully the shorter screws hold on over time and not pull out.
Thank you for the tips James!
Lots of shrimming 🙌 doors look great. Your little one is super cute and Louise has settled in so well and is super chilled 😁. Thanks for the show. Doors are so under estimated 😉
Thank you Kristina!
Awesome work you two . The Jimmy shimmy sounds like a real dance.
Thank you!🕺
The doors look great!! Ladley has grown soooo much during this process and she is beautiful!!!
Oh yes! It’s going to be great to be able to look back years to come.
Your exterior trim around the whole door you won't even see the gap LOL FANTASTIC INSTALL you TWO and It looking good. God Bless you ALL. Kitty is so cute and pretty colors for sure.
Thank you Sandra!
Hey, it's your house and your work your money and time do it your way. We're all learning watching your site. You guys crack me up. I used to love doing heavy lifting all myself but weak stomach wall hernias and arthritis , and my hubby has med issues now so projects just sit. It drives me nuts not doing then i do and strain a muscle do it while your young 60 comes up on you fast.
We hope you are able to find ways to complete those projects. Maybe a little help from some hootis’!
24:45 Always try to hand over tools so that the person about to use them, doesn't have to fiddle with it to use it. Hand it to him where he can just grip it and start nailing right away. I use to be a helper, and my pro's always appreciated this.
😁😊
Lovely video. Ladley will grow be able to do anything!!! Great doors/frames.
Thank you Tracy!
Never knew how annoying installing a door can be. You guys are doing great 🎉😊
The only thing I dislike more than installing doors is taping and mudding drywall
Get ya a few hootis’ and your golden!
on our first remodel, the doors dang near killed me. Decades later, on our last remodel, doors STILL dang near killed me. I am not fan of 'learning limits', but this one I will never forget. Doors are NOT my thing. 🤣
They are definitely a pain!
Looks good the screw through the hinge is a must if you want a good install to last.
Thank you Ralph!
Just ordered lights to go around my garden fence. 👏👏👏
They work really well!
Paint before trim... where you can. And paint trim before hanging it, when you can. It's much easier ❤
😊
Also u must paint all 6 sides or its void warranty. Wouldn't hurt to put some brads into door stop they only use small staples to hold them on . Also remove all shipping supply from door before installing
Awesome job! Ladley is the cutest!❤
Thank you! 😊
Might I suggest painting the walls with a roller, before installing any trim. Might save a lot of taping and cutting in.
Yes!
I have really liked your journey, and how you have learned and used new tools and techniques along the way as you have gotten them. Goes to show that you don't need a lot of fancy tools to get started on a project, but if you get some better or specific tools they can be utilized to make things a bit easier. - Cheers
Thank you so much! We appreciate you taking the time to watch!
I have been using the word Hootis all the time now Thanks
You're not the only one! 😂
❤bonito trabajo megusta mucho
Love it!😁
The progress is superb! Keep going! Thanks for the good clean entertainment. ❤
Thank you so much!
Oh.... the door's with the trim are so much easier to install... :)
Great job! Whatever works, I never measure when I can mark a length, it's faster. The doorknob fit was the hardest till I found a few tricks. Good luck and good fishing.
Yes! Thank you for watching Rick!
always Enjoy y'alls videos, God Bless and your house is lookin awesome 💞
Thank you Christina!
I love your channel!!! 😊😊😊 My husband and I used your "dry pour" concrete technique doing our patio. It worked great!!
That is awesome!
You guys need to try a dry pour countertop! Do you think it would work? That would be a game changer!
Coming soon😁
Shim hinge side first. Have your level handy. Check constantly. Measure at 45 degrees from top & bottom to make sure it is square. I hope you checked the actual door frame for being square. I install a 1/4 metal plate between the frame and the jam. I drill out the deadbolt and striker plate openings. You just need to send heavy-duty screws thru the door frame, thru the metal plant, and into the framing stud. This will make it almost impossible to kick in. You raise the door up according to your final flooring level.
Great idea!
Look up 6 panel doors the cross is at the top and the Bible is open at the bottom. It's pretty cool!
Glad to see y'all finally got normal interior doors down there. When I was down there after Katrina all we could get was split frame doors and they sucked so bad to install and have a solid door. I'm sure someone has already told you why you give 2 inches is you have to have room for the door frame and any error in framing. Glad to see you put shims under the frame, it really helps if you have to drop one corner. I can't tell you how many houses I have gone into to do a repair and the door is hitting the frame, I had to remove the entire door to raise it enough to get a correct gap between door and frame
Well Darrell, it sounds like we are grade A carpenters in your eyes! 🤩 We really do appreciate the feedback because hearing from the people that actually do this for a living know the dos and don’ts.
The best shims are pieces of cedar shingle. You can get it. Lowes and Home Depot. You slide one in from each side and move them back-and-forth until you get the right amount of fill. Use screws through the door and shim not nails so you can easily adjust if necessary
great video you are so nice family and your little princess stole the showis so cute amazing and what a great progress
Thank you so much!
Glad y’all feeling better. But your little princess stole the show. Give her another cookie for doing so well! I’m sure she will be actually helping out sooner than later.
Thank you!
You guys are the real deal.
Thank you!!
Beau travail. Belle mise en place de vos portes. Bravo les cousins cajuns 👍👏😘🇫🇷
Thank you Gerard!
Those doors look great.
Thank you Juanita!
Y'all framed that door opening really good. Your right, those door frames are really flimsy. Y'all did a great job. I love the character of your floors. They look really good. Ladly is a total sweetheart.
Thank you so much 🤗
you've gotta be careful with the "shower curtain, privacy maker, door hanging, with the lower 1/3 see under neath hootus, might get a little cheaky, " (if you know what I mean)
Y'all make me feel like family whenever y'all make these videos. Thank you for being you
Thank you so much for watching!
Looks strange to see trim go up before drywall mud is not finished. Looks amazing nonetheless. Good job! RO didn't look too off. Thanks for sharing
Thank you Lou!
Tip for nail holes, use drywall compund to fill. Much cleaner and easier to work with.
Thank you!
Level the floor first then shim from the hinge side first
Another great episode.....most contractors guestimate....
Noce to see you guys back and well keep up the great work 👏
Thank you!
Yet another great video! Your little Princess is a real charmer isn't she! She's got your eyes and your smile, and she just loves that kitten! Great job on the doors guys, and yes, bathroom privacy is a given!
She sure is!❤️ thank you for watching Dave!
The Hootis info-mercials are great. keep' em comin'. definitely Meme worthy!!! 😂😂😎😎
Hootis is a must on the CCL home front!
Ladly is so cute, you guys are way to hard on yourselves you got this great job
Thank you so much!
I've done a lot of guestimating in my life.
The first construction job I had a friend wanted a 16x16 foot room addition.
I knew nothing but wanted to help a friend who knew nothing. So I did it 34 yrs later it's still there. ( that's also how long I've been crossing my fingers😀)
My birth name is Jimmy. At about 12 years old I decided everybody had to call me Jim except my mom.
She always called me by my first and middle names Jimmy Wayne.
Surprising having interior doors changes the feel of things. Especially the bathroom door.( Agreeing with you Jim😄)
When hanging doors I've found that the door and the frame were always a little off. I think somehow they got shifted during shipment.
Easy fix though.
Ladly was hamming it up with her cute self.
Don't know if she realizes yet that she's being seen by thousands of people on the other side of the camera.
So are any of the rooms totally completed?
As always wishing you three the best.
Love you guys
That is really neat! We almost share the same name Mr. Jim! We always love your thoughtful comments! No sir, some are close but not complete yet.
The trim around a door frame is called an architrave in the UK - I think it’s the same I’m the US 😊
It is but only architects call it that really.
That’s cool!
@@robertboyer5498 This is like the old game - Tell me what you do for a living without telling me what you do for a living! 🤣
they're also called architraves in Australia aswell, nothing to do with architects
Great job! Good teamwork.
Thank you!
Looking good I love that seasoning put it on everything, the easiest way I found to hang them doors is to hire someone to do it.🤣🤣🤣❤️😎
We do too! That’s a staple in our pantry.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Sadly, the only person we would hire had a date with her kitten.
@@CajunCountryLivin 🤣🤣🤣
Extra kiddy seasoning in the eggs is the secret ingredient 😊😮❤ wait no door on the bathroom 😂 Jim in all his gory 😂😮😮🎉 Doors are normally shimmed ❤ We screw off every hinge on the jam and where the door handle strikes. We also check the inside to see if there is a even gap between the jam and door. ❤ also screw off the top ❤ that little indentation in the door, that is why you do it on the windows as well, it’s so the trim matches the whole room/doors ❤ that kitty is getting overtime usage 😂😅. Door looks good. Until the next one ❤❤❤
Robin!!!!! Yes to everything that you mentioned! Now it makes since as to why people leave a reveal on the window frames! Thank you for the tips😁
I can't begin to tell ya'll how much I enjoy watching your videos, you make my day. The way you two get along and work together so well is truly inspiring. it is very obvious the love ya'll have as a family and the humor you two put out constantly cracks me up. Oh and I drive my Wife nuts calling everything a "Hootis". Keep up the good work, God bless, and keep those videos coming.
Thank you so much Daniel! We make each other laugh all day long and Ladly has is right there with us.
Everybody needs a hootis!! 😁
Great job Jimmy
Lydia-😡

Thank u for letting us in. 😊😊
Thank you for watching!!
Hi, you should level your hinge side first before you put the door in and open the door and add shim from the inside so you can see the gap that is being left
Yup, a bathroom door is a must and not just for those royal stinks and not disturbing your idle contemplation. Also some people like sing out of tune in the shower, too, and you don't have to explain the bedroom door.
Yes a door is a must for the reading room looks great guys good job
Thank you!
Looking great guys. Nice job!
Thank you!
Great job y'all 👏 Looks fantastic ❤

Very true!
Yall are coming along great! As the Creole's say "Piti piti, zwazo fè nich!"
Thank you!
Great job on the door. Glad y’all are feeling better.
Thanks so much Gary!
I'm a contractor and I would recommend that you work on the side of the door where you can see the gap between the door and the jamb!
Good idea! Thank you!
@@CajunCountryLivin You're welcome! And your idea to put a longer screw in the upper hinge is right on. We put a long screw in that upper hinge on EVERY door and make sure that the screw goes in one of the holes closest to the center of the jamb so it sinks into the 2x4 framing! We have encountered SO many problems where a door was lacking that and causing sagging, scraping the floor, latches not working due to misalignment, inability to set the deadbolt, gapping, etc.
Great job! Doors work for me too. Y'all stay cool down there.
Thank you Charles!❤️
God and Family first always.
😊😊😊
I try to keep my Guesstimtion Hootis in my Hip pocket...cause ya never know when ya gonna need it.
That’s right😁

It’s not just a door, it’s one step closer to a completed home :) We just poured the foundation piers last Monday for our barndominium and that was a HUGE step for us! Now we can move to the next step. Looking great as always my friends, keep it up we love watching your journey. Cheers!

Absolutely!
It's hootis time!!!
Always!!😁
Great job 👍 coming from a door guy. So here’s a little history on the door you installed the 6 panel colonist Tex
The 6 panel door originated in the 1700s as an expression of Christian faith. The top 4 panels represent the cross, the bottom 2 panels represent an open bible.
Very cool information!
I love your doors, they are Beautiful
Thank you Paula!
