  • Here is the kit I used:
    BrassCraft Universal Installation Kit for Gas Range- amzn.to/3xZ6mFJ
    Jobs like this would be easier if you had wrenches like the one I used here- amzn.to/3NnrafS

    Nice. I would turn the gas off at the meter main with a sticky shut-off valve like that for extra safety.

    As a plumber/pipefitter. You dope & TAPE everything. I was always taught to use both. For gas, it’s a special Teflon tape. Usually yellow. But regardless, dope/tape every joint

    That is actually not a compression fitting, it is a flared fitting. A small dab of sealer on the threads is a good idea. You're right, it doesn't seal on the threads, but it lubricates the nut when you tighten it down. Also, you be amazed at how many of those old valves are leaking a little. A gas installer told me about 30 or 40% of them leak a bit. I would change it to a 1/4 turn valve with teflon seals. Well worth the $8.00 or so it'll cost.

    4:05 If that's the case what? Can the crush connection be retightened if leaking or do you get one shot at it?

    • @thecraigofalltrades
      @thecraigofalltrades  2 роки тому +5

      Oh good catch, I skipped my thought process there. Ya if that's the case then you need to see if you can tighten more as it may be loose. Otherwise you would have to look at the connection at the threads. There may be something wrong with them there or something. But almost always if you see a leak you just need to tighten it more. Thanks for the question there, I'm sure anyone it will help anyone else having that question too.

    Great video, very helpful. Good luck with Samsung, I had nothing but problems with their appliances.

      Thanks I did a lot of research on this model before I bought it and felt pretty comfortable with it. The funny thing with appliances like this is there are always a ton of bad reviews for all of them lol, so far I'm happy with it

      @@thecraigofalltrades I had no issues for the first couple of years then the igniter stopped working, ended up replacing that twice, then after about 8 years the oven would drop temperature after heating, maybe 8 years is the average life expectancy for them but I expected better. I could have replaced the control board but figured the igniter was next so just moved on. I saw someone had a class action about them. I like Samsung monitors though, good panels :)

      How about LG? I have an LG dishwasher and it is awesome. Thinking about getting an LG range.

      I loved my LG gas range. It lasted 13 years, until the touch pad started breaking apart. Then the buttons would not work and I would get an F-3 error message. The top burners were fine, never had trouble with them, but I can no longer use the oven or broiler. We looked into replacing the touchpad, but we could not find the replacement anywhere. :( That's the problem, with electronic parts. I'm looking into an analog gas range.

    If you loosed the nut on the other side of gas shut off, would have made it easier. Then tighten nut back up.

      ya that's fair, does the same thing. Really any cleaning product that gets bubbly would work but soap produces more bubbles to me so it's more reliable on pin hole type leaks.

    How long should you wait for pipe dope to dry before using the stove? Is there a grace period?

      Yeah I had the same issue with my gas line for stove. The installation techs didn’t wanna touch it so I had to call a professional to install a new gas valve. Cost me like 350 now I’m here watching videos just in case the stove tech can’t install the new kit…
