When Syria and Russia where having their price wars at thr start if the pandemic, Trump purchased as much oil as possible to fill out reserves in an attempt to stabilize domestic oil prices and prevent domestic suppliers from going bankrupt.
The only reason there is so much reserves to continually release is because of this swift action. Interestingly, we should actually be making a profit by selling off these reserves that we're purchased at a much lower price.

The gas prices alone are crippling for my family.
It's somewhat ironic. They cite the need for all this spending because people live paycheck to paycheck and have no savings but then do things to drive inflation and fuel prices up, just to come back around to claiming we need to do more of this silliness to help people because they don't hsve any money.

So let me get this straight. It takes between 21 to 35 days for a Russian oil tanker to get to US ports to be offloaded.
It takes between 35 and 60 days for a tanker from the Middle East to make the same trek.
It takes about 10 hours to load the tanker and up to 24 hours to unload. If it has to wait in port to get to an unloading dock, it can take up to 3 days.
The average tanker burns 2,625 gallons of diesel fuel per hour. 22.38 pounds of CO2 are created from burning 1 gallon of diesel fuel.
So, in one hour, a tanker ship hauling oil to a refinery in the US creates 58,757.5 pounds of CO2 per hour. Averaging the travel time of the tankers, that's 27.67 million tons of CO2 per trip.
In comparison, your car creates between 6 and 9 tons per year.
Without going into all the equations of how many tankers come to the US per year, let alone our exports, will someone please explain to me how drilling our own oil and moving it through pipelines, along with importing oil from Canada via pipeline will not be more environmentally "green" for the world.
Please explain to me why buying oil from another country is good for the environment??
Or better yet how buying oil from another country is better than pumping our own oil??

To secure a lease today has ZERO effect on the price of oil today. The leases are for access to construction, which you have to then proceed with building the rug, getting it out there, getting it operational, getting supplies from the rig back to the country. At a minimum the earliest a newly leased rig would impact oil supply is 2 years out.

With all due respect, Energy Sec. Jennifer Granholm has no idea why energy prices have increased. Consider her reply that gasoline prices are so high because the price of oil is $110/bbl. In 1980 the price of a barrel of oil was $120 yet the average price of a gallon of gas was $1.19.
You know how products are shrinking in size on the shelves and increasing its price.
She probably thinks it's the same economic magic she didn't pay attention to in college.

I'm a lifelong Democrat, and I am so, so horrified by the behavior of Democratic officials, and their refusal to answer questions, or to stop speaking when the senators asks them to, I just am astonished and horrified. The strategic petroleum reserve? Geez. And, my gosh, she's smug. So smug. Turns my stomach, that much rudeness and contempt.
