  • Most Mixers Use Sweep EQ Technique Wrong. This Mixing Tips Video will show you both: how not To Mix Songs and How To Mix Music properly. How this trick can create even more frequency conflicts.To Attend a free trial Class of this Audio Production Course send email to: andrewzeleno@gmail.com
    In This Video We Will Talk About: We start with the main idea of Sweep EQ Trick and explanation why and how it works. We'll check an example with frequencies. We'll check my beat written without loops. We turn all plugins off and we will check how most people use Sweep Technique incorrectly. We will listen to how wrong frequencies sound like. We will compare if we really improve audio quality with incorrectly implemented Sweep EQ. How to choose Q and Gain. How to choose frequencies. How saturation of EQ affects on what you hear. How you may clip your AD converter and how it affects on how you make decisions on frequencies. Why Andy Wallace and Chris Lord-Alge work on SSL consoles and they don't cut frequencies. They prefer boosting frequencies. The Beatles Let it Be example with Waves EMI TG plugins from Abbey Road. We'll talk about balance and if Sweep EQ bring balance. How to hear the problem with instruments. How to train your ears. How to understand if your sound boomy, muddy, boxy, enough sub, cutting through, too fat, warm, defined. I will show how exactly you work with Sweep Technique based on a synthesizer of the beat. Why you shouldn't concentrate on the good sounding instruments. Why every movement on EQ can spoil your mix. How this Sweep technique can create more frequency conflicts.

    !!! I use the most fair approach. No prepayments. You get a free trial class which is a real class with my students. If you like it, you enroll. But still no payments in advance. You will pay only after you start the course and you can do it during the first week of a month. Not in advance. Also we have monthly payments. So you don't pay for the whole course. I will be proving that it's the top quality education class by class. 99% of students finish all 9 months of the course. I've been doing it like that for 8 years in a row. Get the Free Trial class - it's a fair approach!

    I enrolled Andrew’s course over skype a while ago to improve my audio production skills. I have live sound engineering background for about 15 years and now I really wanted to advance in studio production. What is the most valuable about this course imo is a proper approach to recording and mixing. I consider myself a nerd of audio so it was a relief to see Andrew is indeed as well. He loves what he does and really knows more than you expect. So far my goal is to finish the course as I have couple of months left but even now my studio mixes improved. I love a live comparison of my mix to one of the greatest mixes professionaly done by industry leading engineers. I hope everyone signed to this course would fill gaps of production knowledge that keep them a few steps from professional mix.

      Exactly. I always say to my students. Ask yourself how you feel when you mix. Do you want to be in charge of what you doing based on huge knowledge and experience? Or you want some external opinion or theory to decide what to do?

    You're SO right about this subject. I almost went insane, at some point, listening for resonant frequencies for hours and hours and hours. Day after day. OCD-like behavior.
    My hearing wasn't normal for weeks (!) afterwards. Not due to loud listening levels (I kept levels low) but due to ear fatigue, and my ears and brain getting hyper-focused/sensitive to all kinds of "resonant" frequencies it "heard" (dug out) from whatever sound I listened to.
    Did all those notched frequencies accomplish anything? Nope. I ended up undoing it all. 'Cause with 50-100 notched frequencies - the sound had totally lost its soul. And even lots of its odd and even harmonics. Such a rabbit-hole.

    • @AndrewZeleno1

    Right now i am at the first half of the course and it has already improved my mixing skills dramatically, Andrew teaches you how to think as a real audio engineer, to make your own decisions not based in other people´s presets or thoughts, he teaches you all the nuances, things i never realized before, and his program includes stuff you dont find in any other course, like very deep integration with SSL gear and plugins. The program its very complete, i have friends who are attending courses at university, 20 times more expensive and still they tell me they dont learn as much as Andrew teaches you. Also you have homeworks and you can make questions in real time, Its the best course i have ever made.

    Very wise point made that I seldom ever remember to consider. Thanks for the tip. This is how you avoid chasing your tail in a mix. Ive wasted years of my life chasing my tail all because I didnt understand the synergy of the whole mix as I overly focused on re-learning my plugins mixing individual sounds in the mix solo.
    Everything always sounded great...until I heard it together in the mix lol. Poor me lol. Im the guy who had a jillion cuts in the EQ removing "bad frequencies". So much of mixing is about knowing how everything sounds together in the mix at all times & the "cause & effect" of any individual mixing move done in a track/bus.

      Thanks! btw I recommend the 2nd Part of my Vocal Mixing Video which is just released. Reverb, Delay and Harmonizer secrets which Waves and CLA hid inside of their plugin. I show even settings of Chris Lord-Alge Reverb with Lexicon plugins. CLA says Slap Delay is John Lennon's 166ms Delay. No it's NOT! :) Many unknown things about his effects. A lot of thing to learn from this video.

    After spending thousands of hours on mixing, and still struggling with making perfect balance your video really helped me out! Its like holy grail that saved me countless next hours of making the same mistake. But what now? How to implement this? Sleeping 8 hours per day and drinking tons of yerba mate + morning mixing session's with fresh ears? The hardest part of it is remembering that, i find myself forgeting about it in the further parts of the mix. How long did you worked to make it you daily routine? I mean stay focused about overall balance, dividing separate space for every instrument and not overdoing notches on every track. Thank you for your hard work Andrew!

    I'm guilty of this bad habit! I used to notch down all the whistling frequencies and ended up using 20 bands! The result was it sounded worse! What I've learned was only fix the part that sounds wrong, and of course it'll sound bad if you boost it up to 20db! Thank you man!

    Great video!

  • @ciddax754
    @ciddax754 5 років тому

    That is so true. Don't analyse per sweep a 'bad' frequency per default. That tool you use, when you hear a singled out vocal or instrument and spot a problem. The filter sweep is like a magnifying glass. You can analyse with it things, but it exaggerates everything.

  • @hpept
    @hpept 5 років тому

    What you say makes a lot of sense to me. I've followed several tutorials about the technique and I also realised that others enhance something that wasn't there to get rid of it. Logic and common sense is still your best ally

  • @CERTI0151
    @CERTI0151 5 років тому

    When I use this technique I switch the project to mono and turn the volume down a lot and listen to all of the instruments together and you can really get what sounds like “inside” the mix and actually sweep until you like the sound of that frequency and it gives it its own space in the mix. I mix at very low volumes and always have lots of headroom. That’s a good technique that’s helped me for a long time

    • @AndrewZeleno1
      @AndrewZeleno1  5 років тому +1

      I hope you realize how Fletcher Munson affects on your quiet listening and the fact if you turn to mono all mono incompatible stereo sounds will be filtered+volume change and you actually don't hear the real sound of your mix due to partial out of phase cancelation.
