Bob called Tobin and said he had a song that he'd just worked out in his head and he HAD to meet up with him ASAP. He showed Tobin the guitar parts and Bob played drums and they recorded pretty much this version that appeared on the album. Tobin said that it took maybe 20 MINUTES max from the time that Bob called him to the time that they laid it on tape
Sober next to the bathroom sink or bloody frigging lit.. This. Kicks. Ass. I hear this after 3.5 beers and more and I know I needxto teach my grandchildren..
I still want to see more Racing Car (!) videos (!) .... Sorry but I'm a kid from the 70s who grew up on this before I found out about Football, Baseball, and Basketball..
That is an absolute trip you mention Joy Division with this video as well, because my bud who just about sleeps in classic cars digs this video as much as he does Joy Division! I just have to nearly cry as I smile because when I was a little man all I wanted to do was sit and watch classic cars on sunny Saturdays, and here is the most killingest "highlight music" to go with it!
Dan Brenner They are as honest a band as joy division thats why, they just kick off the human vibes in the same way it just creates the emotion. Class Act
Kev H Does Joy Division do songs that are in the same genre as GBV? Or maybe a better question is what album to start at if I was going to listen to them?
Dan Brenner Theres only 2 albums unknown pleasures and closer they dont sound like gbv in style theyre just 2 bands that connect with their audience well
Kev H Ok, good reasoning there, I can see it, its just that I don't like hearing something as dark as Joy Division being tied into something as upbeat and spot on with the guitar and drums as GBV, especially when you hear this (see deer75 comments). I am stuck trying to find bands to listen to that have the same early GBV feel to them because a lot of their later albums tail off from the feel they were getting at in Bee and Alien and Under the Bushes and whatnot.
FOR THE FUCKIING BENEFIT of all the future generations of GBV lovers, PLEASE POST THE LINK to the video and more like them! (see chick from "Faster Pussycat Kill Kill! crying for equivalent of emotion..)
He does a hell of a Pete Townsend kick even after 50!!! See UA-cam and SF concert June 2014!!!! And to see him SMILE at the show when the sound system screwed itself after all the morbid and grim pics you see made the damn $50 priceless!

This after he had said the night before, he was pretty much done making music.
The great thing about low-fi music on UA-cam is that it still sounds great at 240p.
Yup lol
Greatest band ever.... full stop

Two of my favorite things in one video. Guided by Voices and vintage motorsports.

Joy Division aside, the best two-and-a-half minutes of music of all time.

Far left love and tolerance leaves me unsatisfied
Playing in SF on Saturday Nov10. I'll be the dude with CAL hat turned sideways after we beat Spoiled Children in football.
Rob Pollard is drunk...
When is he not? I fucking love these guys for more than the music because they drink all the time, smoke cigs all the time and live the lifestyle.
