The problem we have in the Kenyan music scene is the invasion of talentless people who are just seeking fame. These people don't really have a passion for music, I have personally met a few and told it to their faces. 2 of them confessed to me that they are entering the music scene thru 'gospel' then after they are known they can switch to secular, I have more talent than them yet I can't sing to even save my life.
This kind of thinking has brought in so much crap into the music scene and I as a consumer and a customer/ client would not want to spend even a shilling on such nonsense simply because people are think we should support our own musicians. Never.
I will not waste my time coming to a concert even if you did it for free. Give me quality and I will support you. Remember the songs of groups like 'safari sounds' 'them mushrooms' etc their songs still sound fresh till today.
True, bt pinye pia ako extent mbaya, we have to appreciate the efforts even if there is no talent then we tell the truth later after appreciating their efforts
Mediocre is even an understatement ,Kenya has the worst music you could possibly find on earth 🙄 that's why the music industry is going absolutely nowhere !
Lies from the pit. 😂😂
Kweli
Your name itself is going nowhere, use your real name.
Very stupid, Ignorance at it's best!!!
@Tony Ojiambo yes I actually used to listen to them ,and they were okay ,whatever is there nowadays is just poor ,especially gengetone very very poor
Kenya music is not only mediocre but garbage too. There are good talented Kenyan artists though, but their content never gets played because of media cartels courtesy of corruption. The cartels prefer to shove crap boring annoying and stressing music down our throats.
they are pathetic . we have no standards in music . what happened to akina eric wainaina?
Usually i don't comment on videos but as an upcoming artist i have to!
Kenya music industry is good but the problem we still have is that we don't have our unique style, there is no that sound you can easily attribute to kenya! WHY? We copy so much till we don't have any originality in our own music!
Let's talk about the content now,
Kenyans we don't understand that in music we have to know in which part of it you are the best!
Having good vocals don't make you a songwriter, and having rhetoric skills doesn't make you a musician!
The best example is Celine Dion!
They write for her, then she sings!
But in all i know we still have those who are pushing this industry and we will make it!
You're so awesome! 😅
about our own sound... it's only us Kenyans who termed our "genge" "kapuka" and "benga" as mediocre. I'm a beatmaker/producer and trust me it had become a trend for artistes to ask for more dance hall and afrobeats(naija and bongo) Ignoring that kapuka sound Clemo introduced us to. secondly, it's only in Kenya we speak sheng' as a national language... we should embrace that to be unique.
Pinyee is simply corporate period he has no time for mediocre such as kenkeetoniii nuisance odi muranga sijui
Mbochiii ya kenkee
Finally the truth
Some Kenyan music is medicocre, some Kenyan music isn't mediocre. The same goes for music from elsewhere. For every 1 foreign artist played, 1 (or even 2) Kenyan artists should be played.
I love this guy. Living abroad for years, explaining what some songs mean can be tricky. We need to be more serious with our music. Less hiphop, less dancehall more from our own culture...West Africa, South Africa even TZ have put us to shame!! WTF is lamba lolo?!!
Don't feel shame because of one thing let us encourage them to do better kenya is good in so many things globally and remember God can't give it to you all so let's not forget to appreciate what we also have that other countries don't have.
@@goldenamana3174 I feel very ashamed by some of these artists. Lamba lolo is putrid yet we have kids yelling it out. What happened to the power of subversion from music?
What people forget is that Kenya uniqueness in culture is its diversity. We are a people who form more than 40 different tribes which very diverse in both culture and tradition. There's no one defined Kenyan accent as West Africa, South Africa and even Tz. We should use that for our advantage instead of trying to look for a single culture to fit all. Kenya has a culture and its called diversity. Lets's celebrate that even in our music and stop trying to find a single sound or style that defines us all the different sounds that we have. There's beauty in diversity.
I support Dj. Pinye. Quality music my foot. Only a few musicians make music which can be supported. To much western influence in rap. Too much stupid content in music. Music back then when i was a kid was good. Now most is just trash. Writing songs may not be easy but at least write content which can be listened to. Who the hell writes a song about matiti. What the hell is that?
true pinye what is lamba lolo...stick hzo song mi CONI content few like otile brown and Vivian shinskii wanajua kenye wanafanya
This is a lost generation not only music but even in language, they can't express themselves fluently in any language they have to mix with Sheng. Even when being interviewed on air they mix languages and they think it's cool. Using languages like mtoi instead of mtoto, nabuy, naget.... Is misleading children being born because they think that's the language hence confusion even when they write composition in school. Kenyans we are good in so many things we can also do well in other areas like music and being clean we litter too much anywhere without caring
That's our own and we should be proud of that
@@geoffreynyakwebaonasistheo9487 there are things to be proud of not nonsense if something is not good it is not you can't paint a black dog white. Let them be corrected to improve
If someone loves you they corrected and if you are wise you appreciate but if you're a fool you will hate and argue. Correcting them means we love them and we need them to improve and if you are one of them just accept Kenyan musicians have to style including you.
Khaligraph Jones is currently the most successful rapper in Kenya. The Kayole rapper was crowned the best ‘Best Rap Act’ in the 2018 African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) which was held in Dallas, Texas, USA.
Fresh from winning AFRIMMA, Khaligraph has been nominated for yet another continental award - Soundcity MVP Awards Festival.
The Soundcity MVP Awards Festival is an event presented by Soundcity TV which awards plaques to musicians and performers across Africa. Since 2007, the winners are chosen by the viewers and fans by popular vote [sic]
Stiff competition
Khaligraph will be going head to head with Africa’s rap heavyweight including Ghana’s Sarkodie, Nigeria’s M.I. Abaga, Phyno and Falz and South Africa’s Nasty C, A.K.A and Kwesta.
Sauti Sol have also been nominated for Soundcity MVP Awards in two categories - ‘Video Of The Year’ and ‘Song Of The Year’ for their song ‘Short n Sweet’ with Nyashinski.
Artists who do Mugithi ,ohangla, coastal tunes, rhumba, katitu have a great chance of creating something beautiful but they make trash videos .
Love what you are doing with analysing the Kenyan music scene. Perhaps turn it into a show with full discussions from industry players & professionals and even give us the history. Definitely a lot of untapped content in this area. Keep it up and looking forward to seeing bigger & better things
Even the Nigeria and Tanzania music we listen to represents only one percent... for example Nigeria has over a million singers we only know 40 or something... we will listen to good music...
What we need to do is just simple play Kenyan music an the generation that will come after 15 to 25 years will be fully in support of their own artist..... Straight
kenyan music is filled with one hit wonders and mediocre stuff.Making the artists not have a strong fan base. Then our style is not unique to us like Nigeria south Africa and Tanzania.
Kenyan music 🇸*🇨🇰🇸👌
I'm beginning to see good content in this channel. This is a plight for artists to more constructive.
Great . The music is improving 2020 and being played more.
M with pinye... Bro look @ how home boyz created music... It was different... Look @ recent things happening... We still stuck in the same problem of music.
Most Kenyan artistes are mediocre and thus the quality of most Kenyan songs is shit. A few good artistes.
kenyans love anything foreign
Because they can't play, they can't express themselves they are not fluent in spoken language just sheng and slot of rusbbish
Cause most Kenyan music now is shit
Depends where we playing.
Y'all just pretending ,just cos they sing something sexual in sheng you call Kenya music mediocre ...when you phones still got porns ...you play chrisbrowns privacy ,ushers peace sign ...this is our language and these kids have talent and they are creative ...they are singing what they are exposed to and now y'all acting as if what they are singing are from another whack planet ....wanaimba Tabia zenu ...."baby turn around let me see that matakoooooooo" I bet 90% of men say that in their heads just walking around ...#playkemusick
Of course it is. Next question?
it is bad kwanza khaligraph ni matusi, good music nika ya sauti Sol, octopizo, nyasinki that's the only music unaeza sikiza na mamako
Music from Kenya is poor but not all of them
Thank God the truth is out
OK.. By that time, the music industry wasn't that set up.. But to an extent or some music is down
Kenyan music is mediocre? Come on, that is a generalisation. Some are definitely mediocre but there are a lot of great ones but old and new school. Don't forget that sauti sol are Kenyan musicians.
We have content King Kaka, just not good content
No originality, be Kenyan.
It's so easy to write a song...its the part making music that is hard. A 10 year old never heard Michael Jackson play live,by they sure do know the nigga and his music...what's the difference...we still talking about e-sir years after his death, and I don't even know who did that song dandia kama mat...what's the difference...
Hahahaha. Whoever told u its easy to write a song lied to u. Its not. Music is an art and sometimes its a poem. They just dont make bad videos there is no content in their music since they write bad songs.
@@CeeJay254Art that's exactly the point..it's not easy, and u just can't wake up one day and u are good at it...some of these humans just wanna be famous
@@christianngalaka4393 hahaha. Ooh. Nimeona i misunderstood ur point. But u are right. I think people are gifted with the talent of writing music and others aren't
F Pinye😂😂😂😂💔
Kenyans don’t like to support their own like Nigeria and Tanzania do that’s why we’re so behind! Kenyans also try too hard and only make mediocre rap songs. Y’all sleeping on GOOD Kenyans artists like Arrow Bwoy and Masauti!!
Ukweli mtupu. #Overdoz
Dj Shoga ,,His BF lives in UK..Dj Pinye ni Shoga.
I hate Naija music, ave never understood what they say in their shit music. Sauti sol is enough for me. I hate it when i hear 5 Naija songs playing in our stations continuously before a Kenyan song. (Don't impose us foreign content by force) we have lots of quality contents out there who have been denied platform to showcase what they can offer. ((SHAME ON YOU LOCAL DJs, TV SHOWS AND RADIO PRESENTERS!!!!))
Nabii hawezi pendwa kwao, but either u like it or not 🇰🇪 music is dope n is high time we scratch our bro n sis(music) for them to represent we in international.....
You're 1 out of 100 no music just nonsense
Don't put the blame on Dj Pinye. He was very honest to them, he only insisted to artist to create amazing content!
Kenyan music is 90% trash!!!
Dj Shoga ,,His BF lives in UK..Dj Pinye..Have you ever seen him with a gf..Nijo lol
Is kenyan news mediocr3?😒💯😷music is subjective...lol😂

@Kevin En very true...but unaeza kuwa na kitu mzuri lakini kama watu hawapay attentiom to it itauza kweli??
Rda DJ

I myself dont like Kenyan music

@@boborider2205 give me direction to it
BOBO RIDER.....I salute you!!
@@renmwenda8874 haha
@DJ ATM, Is cool. We can live with that. 😛
Kwenda...just go play where u used to play...we doing well without ur opinions and support... Shindwe
True
Kapinye
Kapinye wewe
Wtf
Kenya tuko juu acheni ufala... i clearly don't think our music suck. Ni vile hatupendi kuinuana
Hakuna kitu kama hio. Zamani the music was good. These days most suck. Just trash. I can only listen to Sauti sol, elani and so on. But the rap sucks. Khaligraph wraps like an American. Instead of just being true to himself being a Kenyan. No content today. Just sucks
pinye is a loss to Kenyan music
You are more lost than him, bravo DJ Pinye Kenyans artist has to style up
You're more lost like the artists you need direction
Kenyan music is mediocre I support pinye
