I was in the US Army and practicing Pagan. I was stationed in Fort Benning, GA. I was solitary. There was no sponsor down there. I know they exist, just not there. Still. Hearing that there are still sponsors supporting Pagan Soldiers makes me beam with joy.

My dad’s friend in the army was pagan and kept his hair long because he braided it for protection, the army said he had to cut it and when he told them it was part of his religion, they told him that paganism wasn’t seen as a religion in the army and he had to cut it. Well we had him take a dna test and turns out he is Scandinavian and they braided their hair. So he presented that to them and now he’s allowed to keep his long hair.

As someone who works at Barnes and Nobles, when I saw the one that I worked at has a whole bay of tarot I freaked. I couldn't find the witchcraft section at the one near my house. From what I know, also could be that the times have changed, but different Barnes and Nobles will focus more on different sections. Totally felt the "OMG there are Tarot cards here!?"

I literally JUST saw a documentary on that case where the woman fought to have her Wiccan husband's religious symbol, the pentacle, on his gravestone because it was denied by the military. It was in 2007 when the military changed their code and began to include the it as one of the religious symbols. I didn't realize they were from Texas! That's my home state so I'll have to look up the group!

I almost feel like pagan circles are wayyyyy more popular and organized in the military than in the "real" world. Military has a huge involvement in open and equal representation of religion in the force. Some circles have people coming out in the hundreds every single week! I can not even find something similar to it in the civilian world without it being behind a paywall!

I loved this video especially the talk about how different each state is. My spouse is in the Air Force and we are stationed in Utah and it feels like the witchy community is almost nonexistent here. 🙁

Living in a dorm I've been trying to get used to working with water. Luckily I have a little handmade ceramic bowl I got at a craft fair to put water in that feels sacred and positive. And I found a little trick where I can shake my jar of eggshell powder and the finer rubble puffs out like smoke and I can wave that over my alter matt without making a mess of eggshells

Still watching 1:11:56 but wanted to say that as a gaulish polytheist and also a folkmagick practicing witch, I absolutely love this interview. In both brythonic, gaulish and goideic cosmology (the little we have attested) water is very important for the drus (the World tree). You have the dark waters of dumnos flowing around the roots and you have the aedris (sacred flames) above. Water and fire is a part of spirit and soul, both nurishment/sustainable (maxtias) and the good health (suslantias)*. I recognise so much in this interview in the practice of sustaining a sacred grove and gave some new amazing perspectives. I adore that it was mentioned that celtic as a term is am umbrella term. Only critism is ....we need more lol, jk kinda but still not lol.
*these 2 terms are reconstructed gaulish.

When I was around 12 I became obsessed with this kids magic wizard book and also wizards of waverly place. So I had the character Alex’s wand. So I would take this book a d wand with me everywhere and I would literally go hide somewhere and try spells and even tho the spells were ridiculous (cuz it was a children’s book) I really “knew” I had the power to do them.
I just think it’s so interesting that I had the belief in my own inner power before I even knew what inner power was.

I found this a very informative and inspiring interview, which made me aware that I work with water more than I realised, so am now investigating the books for further insight. I was particularly interested by her comments about the White Spring as I had a similar experience when I did my first full immersion there six years ago. The atmosphere in the Temple combined with the water temperature can make entering the pools a very intense and primal experience, especially if you go in naked, which is allowed there. You emerge feeling as if you've been physically and spiritually scoured and although it later leads to a feeling of being refreshed, renewed and unburdened, initially it's more of a purging and isn't an easy thing to put yourself through. It features in some of the priestess training courses run by the Goddess Temple.

I love when you guys brought up serpents! There are serpent mounds in ohio, where I live, made by the Native Americans. It’s considered an historical site here, and what I’ve read/heard is that was used to guide spirits after death. The head and tail also point to the winter and summer solstice! It’s also up on a plateau overlooking brush creek! I feel like every culture holds significance to snakes in the supernatural in some way.

I just bought both her books, a little hard living in Mexico, but you must not have them in continued print Amazon does not sell them they are 3rd party from United Kingdom, which I have purchased from two major bookstores with great success. I have used water magic in my craft many many years ago when I was practicing, and you are right there is nothing out there for water magic, I just knew. So this will be really cool to experience your view of its magic and how you use water in your craft. Thank you Olivia for bringing her on.

OMG! I too grew up in Fl firat on Cocoa Beach, then on the St. John"S River. Married a Marine, spent time in Jax NC but there was no pagan community apparent at the time. Didnt come out of the broom closet until my 30s after my parents transitioned to their next existence. Not only did I realize my connection with water, but I realized how much of it was taught to me by my father and grandmother on the downlow. Great interview!! Buying the books ASAP!

You are right... 20 years ago it wasn't cool to be a witch. But many of our ancestors found it even harder. Perhaps that is why we have gone through grieving times, even non acceptance of our selves. Which is actually FEAR, either real or really remembered. (Yes, we are blessed now, but tide is turning in serious sad and scary ways, ie recent Row v Wade decision.) So we need each other, Right?
