South Central Cartel was not known in NYC at all back then. Chances are pretty slim Mobb Deep took their name
The labels will make you bite.
Actually if you know the industry the chances are great
Havoc said on math Hoffa podcast Diddy made them change their name from poetical prophets to mobb deep and we know Diddy bite ppl shit just saying
Gangsta Team ft. MC Eiht, Spice 1, 2pac, and Ice-T is a bona fide classic
No it aint......
I remember this story of P stepping to them nikkas at the time, I was like P was crazy. He wasn't crazy. He was just all the shits. He even held down the whole East during the west and east beef.Rest Up, Bandana P.
Mobb Deep was in Unsigned Hype in 1991 as Poetical Prophets. It was a coincidence both groups had those names. There were also two havikks in ssc
Nah, that aint no coincidence.
There was no coincidence.
The person who gave Havoc his name was in The Symphony video. It really ain't that serious. Great minds think alike. No one saying y'all soft or anything but you not running through QB either untouched if you try anything.
SCC been around since '89
Tragedy gave Havoc his name in 87. Prodigy changed his name from Lord T the Golden Child to Prodigy in 92
Ain't nobody steal from these dudes
They did...
They stole from them. Mobb deep stole from them.
Man I'm 50 and I'm from South Central LA I live in Oregon now but Havoc and Prodigy from South Central Cartel was the Original Hav & Prod. Plain and simple.
South Central Cartel came out first. But yeah, maybe it’s just a coincidence Mobb Deep ended up using the exact same two names for themselves 🤦♂️
@@Daygostylz I mean shit happens
RIP Guru helped squash that shit
Mobb deep landed on the same mixtape with those west coast dudes. Prodigy spitting that shook ones part 1 verse. Good night, bro. The West Coast did have the name first, but with that mobb deep production/lyrics, the west stood not a chance.
No offense but these guys are not going to be able to compare with Mobb Deep in no form or fashion
You must miss the memo ain't nobody talking about that
Mobb deep was from queens bridge projects they wasn’t afraid of nothing but I liked both south central cartel and mobb deep
Nothing compared to La and I'm from the Midwest. Whether it was AZ tuckin tale from 40 or Mobb Deep with these dudes. La in the 90s was gang central. Mobb Deep never seen nothing like that.
NY was crazy in the 90s as well. im sure LA was bad too just in a different way.@@millardthomas9059
Remember how Mob Style ran NWA out of Harlem. Every coast had dangerous bullies and gangsters and every coast took losses especially when they were out of town@@millardthomas9059
@@millardthomas9059az tucking tale nope
@@SHARPEYE1 Az from NY. E-40 a real gangsta from the bay. That was the smartest decision AZ ever made. If a NY dude don't want smoke with a La dude, they certainly don't want smoke with a Oakland/Bay area dude. Biggie could have died a year earlier, iykyk.
There’s a Sean P from Brooklyn NYC and a Sean P from Atlanta
Yeah, but those are actually their names
@@kgordon8834 True very True
But didn't he actually go by Sean Price?
@@actinupmedia yes he did.
And a reggae singer Sean P.
Mobb Deep had a bigger impact than these gentleman. Respectfully
Because they stole their shine!
@angelsblackboard8008 dude cut it out! It's a name! If they made good music they would have blew even if their name was the the doo Littles or whatever. You're delusional.
MUCH bigger!
Depends on what coast you're from ...
@@YCNSD it doesn't matter the coast. Mobb deep sold millions of records worldwide and arguably one of the best producers and rapper in hip hop. Mobb is internationally known and locally recognized. South Central cartel wish they had half of mobb deeps accolades.
South central went hard back in the day
South Central Madness is so dope, I still bump it, hard ass posse cut
SSC was hard back in the day!
SCC
Ain't no way the Mobb knew about SCC and vice verse back in them days. I fuck with SCC but ain't nobody steal from them smh... no idea's original under the sun
Your homeboy you crazy as hell stop all that CAPPIN
All Day Every Day!! Great time in my youth jamming to them and glad to see they still alive and doing interviews talking about their past 🎉
I remember hearing these two on the tales from the Hood soundtrack. Summer of 95 was great!!!
Prodeje was a great hood storyteller, especially on the havoc and prodeje albums. Truez neva stop from 97 was mad underrated
I think Tragedy Khadafi gave Mobb Deep their names.
I was 10 back in 1992 and it was around that time was when I saw the South Central Cartel video for "Servin Em Heat" on a video-on-demand channel called The Box. I grew up in New Jersey and saw that that was the same year Mobb Deep dropped Juvenile Hell with "Hit It From The Back." They were basically high school kids at a time when America Online was the only commercial Internet and MP3 technology was 4 years from being invented. It was just an unlikely coincidence because Dre, Snoop and Cube were the only West Coast artists getting NYC radio play at the time.
Great integrity telling the truth without farther dissin mobb deep great they could let petty shit go💯
Another Gang story that was my shit.. still is!
I first heard of Havoc and Prodigy of SCC in 92 when I was in the 9th grade. I didn't hear about the Mobb Deep until 96.
Thank you for your honesty homeboy
As a former radio mix show DJ in New York I never heard of South Central Cartel until after Mobb Deep blew up with 'Shook Ones'. To be perfectly honest I didn't even know that South Central Cartel was signed to Def Jam until this video, and I was being serviced regulary by that label. There was no social media back in those days all us New York DJs had were record pick up day and UPS deliveries from the labels. How did this breakdown in communication happen? I don't know but the music industry is a small and very weird animal...
pOetiCaL propheTs
(mobb deep)💯
i love both groups.
for me, there is no other group on both coasts, which represents their style like they do. with "the infamous", (and "hell on earth") mobb deep got eastcoast's blueprint of dark, hardcore- street hip hop.
scc on the west made so many favorite g-funk tracks of mine, their soulfullnes is untouched imo.
"kickin' game" and "all day everyday" are absolute classics!
havoc of mobb deep got his name from tragedy khadafi (intelligent hoodlum) around the mid til' late 80's.
prodigy renamned himself around ca '92, when they started to record "juvenile hell".
don't know, maybe the mobb heard of scc as they were around since '89.
peace to all of them!
r.i.p. prodigy!
S.C.C. signed and released music before Mobb Deep
(Signed 91 & released album 92)
(Signed 92 & released album 93) Prodigy's name was "Lord-T The Golden Child" and the group was called "Poetical Prophets" in 92-93 they became Mobb Deep
Ngl I heard of Mobb Deep before I did of S.C.C. and I was confused af cause I thought they were the same people and were switching styles back n forth 😂😂
SCC was out first homie
@@cassandraclark5499 I know that but at the time I thought Mobb Deep & SCC were the same people. I was young and dumb 😅
@@6eostorm oh okay it was a misunderstanding I was about 13 when that album dropped by SCC
@@cassandraclark5499 I was like 9 and became a fan of both groups and continued to listened to them to this day. My two older brothers were big Hiphop fans and they used to put me on to everything.
@@6eostorm that’s always a win because you have more access to things over your age group in a sense
Mobb Deep was always Mobb Deep when they had deals and they were always hardcore. They were in the source as the poetical Prophets, but Juvenile Hell was a Mobb Deep album. Peodigy was on the Boyz on the hood soundtrack.
I'm from the south and i heard of SCC before mobb deep. I knew some LA niggas who played it for me when i was about 12. I thought mobb deep copied them. Much love to both groups
eggzackly
Nah I've never heard of SCC over Mobb Deep. All the people I know played Mobb Deep.
They were pretty dope west coast rappers but mobb deep was just better💯
🧢 Mobb Deep was out 1st
You must be a kid or ignorant.
Eh everybody gonna have their side of the story that makes them look like Superman. Nobody sued each other over it anyway. I was listening to a Prodigy interview and said that it was Jack The Rapper where he confronted SCC drunk with the sickles(knives) and told them they had it first and SCC had to change their name. He said SCC kept saying they were the east coast Havoc and P and we were the west coast Havoc and P. Prodigy said SCC was 🐈⬛ and walked away. I don’t know how it’s possible that Mobb Deep in those days would even be aware of what SCC was even doing in those days and the same SCC. Nobody will ever know or admit the truth truth but really the definitive Havoc and P is Mobb Deep. Much respect to SCC tho.
I always liked the west coast better than east coast
Mobb deep for kids
South central cartel for real gs
Lol
Mobb Deep used to hate on the West Coast for real.

Gangstarr
I am unfamiliar with these guys.
Respectfully of course but Mobb Deep from Queens NYC are legendary.
So are SCC
South Central Cartel was one of the first gangsta rap groups PERIOD! Way ahead of their time.. Much respect to Mobb Deep but their fans couldn’t come off the front porch yet when SCC was mobbin 💯
I doubt SSC was shook
Mobb deep are studio pranksters compared to south central cartel, those guys are from the most active turfs from both sides of the 110 freeway
I see why they didn’t get nowhere
Mobb Deep is from Queensbridge which was also pretty bad. Hoods are hoods. Most importantly Mobb Deep made better music which is what it’s all about. Who cares who committed more crimes. That’s not something to celebrate
By the time Mobb Deep released that bs Juvenile Hell album, South Central Madness was over a year old. Big Prod is being modest. Mobb Deep stole those names from SCC
I believe they did too. Cuz ain’t no way. They probably seen them names in the record store at the time and didn’t think too much of it and took the names for themselves. I love Mobb Deep tho lol. Just keepin real.
Man ny niccas be biting shiiii all the time just like biggie stole his name and juicy song from the notorious B1 in Mississippi his homie said he was in the other room heard the song called his boy and said your song on the radio and he said nah dawg I ain’t on the radio that’s when he found out biggie stole the song he sued bad boy but due to a long process of a law suit time passed and biggie got killed so out of respect he dropped the case against bad boy look it up
Tbf it’s possible. Having same hood nicknames is very common in same city/state. Now imagine a whole country in every hood.
Do your googles champ, Mobb Deep debuted with Hit It From The Back came in 93, never were called anything else, and that album was hard af, "They got me Locked in Spofford"!!
It took 2 seconds on google to see south central cartel was out 2 years before that

Im from from virginia, and frfr both of them groups dropped about the same time as far as i can remember.
I'm from North Carolina, and we only knew about Infamous Mobb. #East Coast4Life
I phuck with SCC music more than Mobb Deep. They got hella bangers. "G's Game" and "Gangsta Luv" still gets bumped. The only song from Mobb that I like, is the song with Lil Kim ugly ass and the intro song in 8 Mile.
Mobb Deep didn't steal their names from these cats, but...
They did have the name first.Mobb was Poetical Phrophets. They just yapped their shit and stepped to them like what, nikka?!This dude is trying to downplay it by saying, there weren't no threat.lol.He got pressed for that name😂😂😂😂.I heard of SSC but couldn't name one song from them.I just found out L.V. was with them.

SCC was out like a year or two before Mobb Deep
3 years before

Havoc and Prodigy from South Central cartel are the originals plain and simple mobb deep came a little bit later
Poetical prophets was mobb deeps old name and it was gangster shit from jump .

They both came out in 91, no kids from queens Bridge projects heard of no corny ass rappers from out west. Especially since the only thing popping from out west at the time was nwa and snoop, NY was still running things.
