He's not just dinking and dunking it down the field. He's F*in slinging it all over the field. As a 9'ers fan, this is so awesome to watch. What the playoff have in store for us remain to be seen but at this point in time, this is awesome. We haven't seen this type of QB play since the Jeff Garcia, TO, Stokes, Hearst years. Purdy has nothing to lose and he's playing out of his mind and making the most of this opportunity. He has almost as many TD passes in 6 games as Russell Wilson had all season!
Yes, Kyle's offense and the talented skill players are helping Brock, but Purdy is also playing at a very high level for any NFL QB, let alone a rookie. And yes, he's still learning and improving, but his floor is already high. Tampa's defense was good and so was the Commanders. Miami's was good too in its own way. Purdy handled them better than most starting QBs.
I am an Iowa State fan, and I've seen him play many many games in the four years he played in Ames. The guy was one outstanding QB. The media totally ignored him and focused on players from other schools. I am glad the 49rs decided to give him a chance, and by doing that, they discovered a gem. I hope he wins the SB in his first year in the NFL.
@@stergiosserres6680 purdy was getting first round hype and his college stats are amazing and his college record was better than most of the draft plus he went to a mid-major college with a good conference so what changed? Did the analyst make yet another mistake?
@@jasonlasick4396 all NFL analysts, experts, and coaches prioritize two things when they draft QBs. Arm strength, and height. Doug Flutie proved that a short guy can play the game too - and it was not just him. (One that comes to mind is Mark Sanchez, and maybe even Russel Wilson, Tua, and Justin Fields ....don’t know exactly their height, but they don’t look tall to me). Now, Purdy runs the 49rs offense like a well oiled machine. He spreads the ball around like Brady did for so many years. H definitely got a bright future ahead of him. To answer your question. Yess. The analysts made another mistake, and I believe most of those analysts and coaches , believed that Purdy was not even good enough to be in the NFL’s practice squad teams. Now they see the kid playing at the highest level, and they are slobbering at his talent.
120+ touchdowns in high school and back to back championship games both loses. 100+ touchdowns in college and 32 school records. Fastest split 10 at the nfl combine at 1.55 seconds 10 yard. Fastest in the nfl. Number 1 rated quarterback in the nfl. Youngest quarterback to pass for 300+ yards and 3+ touchdowns in a playoff game breaking Dan Marino record. Why no one drafted this stud when everyone needs quarterbacks.
As a 49ers fan, I've watched every single game, for years. I saw Kyle with backup QBs before. They had some success, but looked panicked half the time. Anyone who says this is about Kyle's offense needs to explain why it didn't look like that with all of those other backup QBs, or even the starters. Because this is looking better than Jimmy. It felt like Kyle has been more aggressive with his play calling. At first I thought he just decided to go for it since they had nothing to lose, with a 7th round rookie QB, but a lot of those play calls were there with Jimmy as well. It has more to do with CMC really, Jimmy looked much better in the 4 games he with with CMC starting. From week to week, Kyle has figured out more things he can do with his new weapon. Switching him and Kittle is one of those new things. If Kyle keeps up these play design/calls, and the defense keeps playing like the #1 defense they are, it will be hard to beat this team in the next 6 games btw, that one INT in the Miami game was on 4th down. If you don't complete the pass, the next best thing is an interception. An incompletion or a sack means better field position. It was a good decision, he gave his guy a shot and it was basically like a short punt. I've seen a lot of QBs throw it away or take a sack in that situation.
I am now a 49ers fan because this guy has the same last name as me and I've been anxiously awaiting his NFL debut. I can't believe it happened so soon, and I'm glad he's on a good team!
Great break down! “He thinks he Michael Vick too??! “ 🤣🤣👍👍 It has been such a pleasure as a long time 9er fan to see this kid excel A diamond in the rough ! 49ers struck gold!! 7:35
Disagree with "diamond in the rough." That suggests an unpolished, elite talent. Purdy's the opposite, his polish and grasp of the finer pints of his position is his best attribute. Purdy is a found treasure, not a rough diamond.
@@rca-559 What about him? He'll make a great backup for Purdy until they can find a team that buys in on his potential and is willing to trade assets for him..
Superb analysis, thank you for that breakdown of Purdy’s performances so far. Loved that added analysis of the defences he’s faced thus far. The pass-rush from the Dolphins was very strong, they smelt blood, but he was superb and faced it down and grew from there. As a 9’ers fan I’m also worried he hasn’t faced strong opposition such as the Eagles, Cowboys, etc yet, but then THEY haven’t faced the hottest team, most powerful defence, in the NFL either, so swings-&-roundabouts there. The next 2 games will add further to his experience and self-confidence (not that he’s lacking that!).
Brock is my cousin, not only is he a phenomenal football player but he’s also a great guy and man of faith. He will always put others before him , that’s a leader any team would want
Bill Walsh always talked about how important a QB's footwork was in evaluating them. I look at Brock Purdy's feet when he drops back to pass, and it reminds me alot of Joe Montana's footwork. I think the 49ers have struck gold again. I am a believer in the young man as a consistent starting QB in the NFL.
As an Iowa State fan, I am excited to see Brock come into his own in the NFL. I am just apprehensive of his performance in the playoffs, he had a habit of messing up in important college games/bowl games.
I'm getting some strong Patriots vibes from the 49ers in the years to come. The coaching staff is amazing, the management is amazing able to get great line ups for both the O and the defense, and now they've finally found themselves a QB able to execute on what the management, coaching staff, and the O line ups are giving him. Great things to come and potentially a dynasty if nothing horrible happens
I wanna touch on that last point of people saying he only looks good because of the system. That's an absurd reason to tear away his success. He should be complimented for running the offense as well as he has. I think he is fortunate to land in a situation that matches his natural skill set so well, but everyone should be patting themselves on the back. For the scouts to recognize his ability, for the coaches who placed their trust in him, and for Brock who has taken advantage his opportunity to the maximum.
Great work! The details about defense and assignments really enhances the whole game experience. Can't wait to see what's next and what the playoffs look like.
This is one of the better analysis styles I've seen. Subscribed. Obviously the depth of knowledge, but the whole 'package' - unobtrusive but still there back ground beats, well paced video with detailed but simple graphics (read: no John Madden squiggles), and polished off with an understated narration style. Keep packing the dry humor, Tex. Great stuff!
This is one or the nice stories of the season. Thank you for this great video, your analyses are Always spot-on and i like how you take your Time talking about defensive schemes.
He's a solid QB with a great team around him. Not talking anything away from his play because he is managing the game very well. I'm a Bengals fan. I'm thinkin there is gonna be an 80s rematch for the SB this year. The niners are by far the most complete team in the league. I just hope he doesn't get Nick Foles-ed after coming in and playing so good and get traded to some crap team expecting him to pull off some miraculous turn around of their entire franchise.
During the Bucs game Purdy takes a shot on the opening drive from Tampa with a helmet to helmet call and then proceeds to demolish them. That hit didn't not phase him it just pissed him off.
My favorite thing about Purdy is seeing him after a touchdown not celebrate but instead dap up a lineman or two and get off the field for the PAT. He’s already showing true professionalism at a very young age. I’m not going to jump on the hype train to early but right now it’s hard not too.
There was a time when Purdy's name was at least being mentioned with Heisman. He was a long-time started at the D1 level so he does have some battle scars. He's athletic and a quick study. Not the strongest arm but quick release and knows his limits. He's going to be around a while.
Some things you just can’t catch and his pocket awareness/mobility and quick thinking is top notch. He’s not the most athletically gifted but he more than makes up for it in other areas.
Great video. Although he’s shown some cracks in his 4.5 games. The fact that he’s playing at this level in his rookie year is a testament to his composure, the system Shanahan developed, and the supportive nature of the locker room. 49ers are a team built to challenge the best. Looking forward to the playoffs.
Thank you for showing the levels of difficulty and the movement of Purdy. Jimmy would have been sacked by 90% of the plays that were shown. Nothing against him; Jimmy's a pocket passer without Purdy's level of mobility.
Anyone who watched a lot of Niner games the last 10 years knows that this kid already looks like a playmaker compared to everyone else we’ve had. The poise is real.
I'm 32 and been a Niner fan since day 1. I have never felt this way when Purdy drops back to pass, it's like literally anything can happen at anytime for our offense
@@Psalmist6693 when the niners traded for CMC they essentially got another deebo. He’s a RB that can play WR, similar to deebo who’s a WR that can play RB.
I have not heard any comment on the coaching from Iowa state that developed Brock. Playing four years with good coaching has to be an integral part of his story.
We have annointed practically every QB since Young as the next HoFer. Purdy has performed marvelously. Lets ride this hot hand as far as it goes. If Purdy turns into a longterm superstar, all the better, but lets keep out expectations modest for now.
As a former ISU student during Purdy’s entire career who watched almost every game, I understood why he was a 7th round pick. He used to be a 1 read QB who’d stare down receivers and lacked in arm talent. Now though, his field sense has improved considerably and even though I still think the arm strength is suspect, he’s improved in basically every area and everyone associated with the cyclones is so excited for him
He is surprisingly nifty in the pocket with excellent feet, and has seemingly caught up to the NFL game really quickly. While we've seen other flash-in-the-pans before, I think this kind of early success can lead to long term excellence- if the Niners handle and develop him correctly. I never saw him in college, and can only imagine that his size held back his draft stock.
A lot of people don’t see it because they’re haters. I think we have the next Brady on our hands. Def a top tier QB. Kid just turned 23 and has the demeanor of a 50yo. He’s special.
Jimmy G is who he is. There’s enough tape on him. I don’t think he is as bad as a lot of the SF media says he is, and I personally was pumped when he came back to SF. I’m sure he will go win wherever he goes but might not ultimately win a SB. Brock obviously has a small bit of pro tape on him and all of it is fire. The same people overstating his skill set will shit on him as soon as he slips a little. Brock has definitely outplayed anything I thought he could be so I’m cautiously optimistic about his run.
I'm not near ready to crown Purdy yet, but it's hard to argue that the offense doesn't look different with him running it. Purdy is willing to throw outside the numbers and actually looks first for the big play deep. Those are things Jimmy rarely ever did. Plus, Purdy has displayed quite a bit more mobility than Garoppolo. He's saved himself in instances that would have likely been sacks for Garoppolo. He seems to play better under duress. Also, Jimmy is known to make at least 2 throws a game that leaves you scratching your head. Despite his lack of NFL experience, we haven't really seen that from Purdy....yet. Which brings up the point in that Purdy could just be getting started. Jimmy has all but reached his ceiling. There are fans and even local analysts who watch far more 49ers tape than the average fan who say it appears as if Kyle Shanahan actually trusts Brock Purdy more than he ever did Jimmy G. Again, I'm not ready to crown him, but I can certainly see a possible future with him being "the guy". ....and, I'm a fan of Lance.
Jimmy is super uncomposed in the pocket. Watch his feet before any throw that isn't a bang-bang play. Also Jimmy is nowhere near as athletic. I do think Brock is a product of the system and he won't look nearly as good at a mediocre/bad team but he is absolutely better than Jimmy. That's not even an argument.
I’m here to report from the future. Cowboys vs 49ers. 17-12 niners. Let’s keep this Cinderella story going Brock. I think we got the next Brady on our hands boys. I said it in a family group chat after his first game. Next weekend against the Eagles in the conference finals. LFG.
Really nice film breakdown. Recurring theme with Purdy are those quick feet, it’s impossible to predict his release point. I’m seeing Roger Staubach, not a true runner but a scrambler who can throw from anywhere and any posture. Good release isn’t as elite as Garoppolo, but he’s in trouble less often.
I think the fact he’s been thrust in when he was, being such a late pick, and doing well is crazy. There’s been first round draft picks who’ve done a lot worse
I watched him on the Shrine Bowl and I saw a career backup like Case Keenum or Brian Hoyer at best. When I watched him enter and dominate the Dolphins and Bucs I couldn't believe it was the same kid. I give tons of credit to Shanahan and Griese for coaching up this kid. I have to remind myself he is a rookie every time I see him composed against pressure which is typically a killer for rookies.
Honestly, Bill Walsh was a master at taking QB who were not seen as much & making them something. Montana was a 3rd round pick, but Walsh saw something. The system, Walsh's & the Shanahan's is designed for the QB to be a success if he can execute. It's not an accident that Shanahan's dad ran the Niners O before taking the HC job at DEN. Griese was brought in for Lance but, obviously, all the QB benefited. Just my two cents as an SF native who got to watch Walsh at Stanford then with the Niners.
He’s the next Tom Brady. The kid is the greatest rookie QB I’ve ever seen. And I’m a Steelers fan. He’s just incredible to watch. I think SF will be the next dynasty.
Narrator of this video must have played; he knows his stuff and tells a good story. Saw video of the call the team made to Purdy when he was drafted. The 49ers wanted him and are just reading the benefits before expected.
This is a great take, ive heard so many unhinged takes on purdy talking like he is the second coming of christ. Hes good, sure, but more importantly, he has a lot of weapons and a fantastic coach at the helm. We need to see more games with him against decent teams. The cardinals, dolphins, and even raiders to an extent were all very easily winnable games, and the fact the raiders managed to give them a really hard time is a testament to how they could get exposed against mahomes or burrow.
Just wait til first time Trey unloads a 60+ yd bomb in training camp and for the conversation to just continue. Dude has performed and improvised at high football IQ. Not biggest arm, but operates well in pocket, on run, under pressure.
@@ceebee8042 No doubt at least as a high level backup, but what he’s shown is better than some of the 32. It’s always crazy to think how many people just never get the shot. It only takes the two starters above him to get season ending injuries and then you have to perform under whatever circumstances you’re thrown into.
Purdy is not just gonna give the job back to Trey. He'll fight him for it, and Brock has earned the right to make it a proper fight. If Broc wins playoff games, especially if he wins more than 1, then Trey starts the next season as a backup.
@@hagamapama He's winning that fight. He needs to clean up some jiterriness and survive defensive coaches scheming against. He's also shown nice pocket mobility, quick enough release, nice pre snap/post snap processing. He's a better QB for Shanahan at the moment and until proven otherwise.

I like what Joe Montana said. “You never want to put your QB in a bad position.“ He said that when referring to Jimmy G running out of the end zone. He said JG should have known where the line was, but Kyle calling a seven step drop (via shot run) put him in a bad position.
Damn. He really does. Steve young is one of my favorite players. I know his scramble like the back of my mind. It’s extremely similar indeed. Great observation.
'Arm angles'... 'weapon'... 'edge rusher' -- today's buzzwords that get scouts and coaches fired. They are all trying to find these subjective, flashy, nonsensical/meaningless skills instead of true fundamentals and balanced formations/personnel groupings. In terms of Brock and the 49ers -- they are awesome, no question. Only team that looks organized and the quaterback is playing so well because the timing of his drop back allows him to always be in perfect rhythm. His 4th dimensional trait of understanding time/space is matching perfectly with what the 49ers always do (since Bill Walsh). Anyway, I am just joking with you about the buzzwords. (Although those words are starting to get tired... really, really tired!) The fundamentals you cover and the way you teach the concepts visually is very refreshing -- and VERY well done! I hope the NFL shifts back to being efficient, sound, fluid, balanced, and on time. Maybe coaches will go back to grading these timeless treasures instead of zoom/zip motion, extending plays, no-look arm angles, while trying to evade the edge rusher by changing his arm angles. Blah, blah, blah....👎
Coming in late... it's surprising that like many other benchers who've been given the opportunity, he hasn't succumbed to the pressure and fallen apart. It's obvious he's confident in his ability and in his teammates ability to move the ball in tandem with one another. Success breeds success... so coming out strong helped to solidify his teams trust in him that he could perform.. as well as his trust in himself. Nice to see a fella, that not much was expected from... Shine. Now it's just a matter of facing better defense teams... and avoiding injury. Then we'll know that he's made of. Here's to hoping his career doesn't get snuffed out just as he's gotten noticed in the bigs.
I love how people say give this qb a few years then he will be good. Let him be under this qb and learn first. Meanwhile Purdy just comes in make plays and win.

if sports journalism is your passion, this is the place to be. think of this as the ‘math’ side of sports. breaking down defenses, learning offensive schemes, etc. there’s a lot! but in learning the intricacies of the game, you become a much smarter and therefore better journalist. knowing what makes players and teams successful is a huge aspect of scouting and to me, the best journalists are really just great scouts who can put their perspective into writing. best of luck in your pursuit
Purdy is what I thought Zach Wilson would look like on the jets.
Please don't remind us 😔
Bingo same here, I thought Zack Wilson would be playing like this as well. But when it comes to scouting QB it's toughest position to scout.
They say zach has a strong arm. But you need more big arm to be successful. Sorry jets. Jimmy is our gift to you lol
@@rca-559 you’re absolutely right. Look at purdy he doesn’t have the strongest of arms but he’s far ahead of Zach Wilson in every way.
@@Kaisaccountt even though 49ers they surround him with weapons. Wilson has been a disaster. Wilson compare to mahomes arm strength.
He did such a great job as a rookie thrown in there. Hopefully, he heals well. What an underdog story.
Those of us that watched him play at ISU have been waiting for this. We knew he was going to be a star.
Yes, what he have like 30 school records? 100+ college touchdowns and over 120 high school touchdowns and at least two a game in the nfl. Dude a stud.
His floor is already high? Is it unusually close to his ceiling?

"Struck gold" has a whole new pun in San Francisco
Purdy was a good qb in college and I'm not an Iowa St fan. This guy was largely under-rated.
Purdy was a beast in college and I’m an Iowa fan. Although it is kinda trippy watching him throw to Kittle now lol
If Kyle keeps up these play design/calls, and the defense keeps playing like the #1 defense they are, it will be hard to beat this team in the next 6 games
btw, that one INT in the Miami game was on 4th down.

Disagree with "diamond in the rough." That suggests an unpolished, elite talent. Purdy's the opposite, his polish and grasp of the finer pints of his position is his best attribute. Purdy is a found treasure, not a rough diamond.

Purdy is becoming the most relevant "Mr. Irrelevant" since Ryan Succop.
Brock is my cousin, not only is he a phenomenal football player but he’s also a great guy and man of faith. He will always put others before him , that’s a leader any team would want
He’s 100% class on and off the field
Tom Brady is living proof that it doesn’t matter what round your drafted in, Purdys out here reminding us of that.
Excellent analysis, very clear and outstandingly knowledgeable.
Ahh the sprint right option the play that launched a Dynasty. Red n Gold forever!
Montana to Clark!
I love these videos they really teach me so much about defense coverage and offense formations, and routes combination.
Thanks for your work in this video. Very helpful analysis while keeping it fun!
NiNERS vs the Bengals in the superbowl cause I think joe burrow got mahomes # now.. NiNERS fan here but i do like what the bengals are doing

jimmy g wouldve taken the sack
Absolute poise while being chased down in his own end zone, doesn't even hurry the pass.
My favorite thing about Purdy is seeing him after a touchdown not celebrate but instead dap up a lineman or two and get off the field for the PAT. He’s already showing true professionalism at a very young age. I’m not going to jump on the hype train to early but right now it’s hard not too.
More impressive is how hes able to stay in the pocket under presure and not force a bad throw
Great content, keep up the good work. Appreciate your channel.
Make that 20 years.
Honestly the best thing about him is that there’s no drop off to go from Jimmy to Brock
The offense got better with Purdy
If anything, they look better. The big difference I see is when Purdy throws, I don't automatically expect an interception like I do with Jimmy.
@@Spongemonkey26 4 INTS in 11 game is pretty solid but I agree that Purdy looks a lot more steady so far.

Do you have to designate before the play who the running back is? Cause if it is not, I can imagine them causing all kind of confusion
I have not heard any comment on the coaching from Iowa state that developed Brock. Playing four years with good coaching has to be an integral part of his story.
He's got an arm and he's got guts. I think Brock Purdy is gonna be important for us in the near future.
We have annointed practically every QB since Young as the next HoFer. Purdy has performed marvelously. Lets ride this hot hand as far as it goes. If Purdy turns into a longterm superstar, all the better, but lets keep out expectations modest for now.
Wow, love your play analysis! Great job.
excellent breakdown. So well done. Purdy could be good, we need time to see how he responds when his confidence is dented.
As a former ISU student during Purdy’s entire career who watched almost every game, I understood why he was a 7th round pick. He used to be a 1 read QB who’d stare down receivers and lacked in arm talent. Now though, his field sense has improved considerably and even though I still think the arm strength is suspect, he’s improved in basically every area and everyone associated with the cyclones is so excited for him
Great video, very informative sharing how the offensive and defensive systems actually work
Easy to understand analysis, even for non football coaching types.
I hope my man gets to 100k followers, this is the best NFL content on UA-cam! Without all the silliness!
You mean record breaking performances. The best quarterback I’ve seen in the last twenty years. He’s the real deal.
A lot of people don’t see it because they’re haters. I think we have the next Brady on our hands. Def a top tier QB. Kid just turned 23 and has the demeanor of a 50yo. He’s special.
he's a natural in terms of timing. foot work, throwing motion, everything seems to be like a dance.
How did we go from Garoppolo is only good because he’s in San Francisco to Brock Purdy is the future????
Jimmy G is who he is. There’s enough tape on him. I don’t think he is as bad as a lot of the SF media says he is,
and I personally was pumped when he came back to SF.
Jimmy poops his pants under pressure. Purdy has a big brock under pressure.
cuz this offense averaging more with him without deebo💀
Fantastic video, great breakdowns of coverages. Well done, man. Keep up the excellent work👍
Them getting him at the very last pick of the draft was the biggest steal by any team ever
Doesn't matter how strong your arm is, how clean your spiral is, how athletic you are. It all depends how good you can play being pressured.
I’m here to report from the future. Cowboys vs 49ers. 17-12 niners. Let’s keep this Cinderella story going Brock. I think we got the next Brady on our hands boys. I said it in a family group chat after his first game. Next weekend against the Eagles in the conference finals. LFG.

He's not doing anything spectacular but his qb IQ is high. He's a student of the game. He lives in the film room.

Lol at least watch this short video before yoy comment
HIs ability to take risk in waiting till the last second to get the ball out is ballsy af but its working.
As a Niner fan this is amazing!!!
God has got to be a 49ER FAN!!

Excellent analysis. So cool that Mr. Irrelevant is making a major impact for a very good team. What are the 49ers going to do next year?
This is a great take, ive heard so many unhinged takes on purdy talking like he is the second coming of christ. Hes good, sure, but more importantly, he has a lot of weapons and a fantastic coach at the helm. We need to see more games with him against decent teams. The cardinals, dolphins, and even raiders to an extent were all very easily winnable games, and the fact the raiders managed to give them a really hard time is a testament to how they could get exposed against mahomes or burrow.
Nice job. Super detailed. Love it.
Just wait til first time Trey unloads a 60+ yd bomb in training camp and for the conversation to just continue.

I like what Joe Montana said. “You never want to put your QB in a bad position.“ He said that when referring to Jimmy G running out of the end zone. He said JG should have known where the line was, but Kyle calling a seven step drop (via shot run) put him in a bad position.
The white deebo samuel and the black CMC LMAO
Gosh, Brock reminds me so much of Steve Young. When Purdy scrambles he looks so much like Young, IMO.
Blah,blah, blah....👎
thank you for that dissection Professor TF. Sub'd & liked.
