Drunk Woman Crashes Mustang At Over DOUBLE the Legal Limit Before DWI Arrest

- On May 14, 2023 around 4:06, the Vineland Police Department was notified of a motor vehicle accident that occurred on E Sherman Avenue westbound near the intersection with S East Boulevard. Officer Eduardo Santiago arrived on scene around 4:14 PM, and Officer Christopher Howard arrived shortly afterwards around 4:17 PM. When Officer Santiago arrived on scene, he observed that a 2009 Mustang driven by 24-year-old Sabrina had struck a 2022 Subaru WRX from behind. None of the drivers or passengers reported any injuries.
As he was speaking with the Sabrina, he observed indicators of impairment. Sabrina told the officer that she had been at Uncle Ricky’s earlier that day. Officer Alexander Hunter also arrived on scene to assist around 4:27 PM. Based on the officers’ suspicion of impairment, Sabrina was asked to exit the vehicle and perform field sobriety exercises.
Officer Hunter started with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. During the HGN test, Officer Hunter observed a lack of smooth pursuit, distinct and sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation, and the onset of nystagmus prior to 45 degrees. Vertical gaze nystagmus was not observed. The second exercise was the Walk and Turn test. During the Walk and Turn test, Sabrina did not touch heel-to-toe on each step and took an incorrect number of steps. The final exercise was the One Leg Stand test, and Sabrina failed to raise her foot in the proper fashion and displayed a lack of balance.
Based on the motor vehicle accident, the indicator of impairment, and her inability to adequately perform the field sobriety exercises, Sabrina was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. Sabrina admitted that she was in possession of a substance that could cause impairment and that it was inside the vehicle. Sabrina was transported by Officer Hunter to the Vineland Police Department for further processing. Officer Santiago stayed with the vehicle until it was towed for a mandatory 12-hour impound as required by John’s Law.
At the Vineland Police Department, the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators was read to her, and she agreed to submit breath samples for testing. Her Alcotest results indicated a BAC of 0.20%, which was more than double the legal limit of 0.08%. After they finished processing her, Sabrina was released to her mother pending her court appearance after she signed the Potential Liability Form on Sabrina’s behalf. Sabrina was issued the following summonses: Operating under the influence, reckless driving, and no liability insurance coverage on motor vehicle
Court records indicate that on August 16, 2023, Sabrina pleaded guilty to operating under the influence. As a result of her guilty plea, she had to spend 12 hours at an intoxicated driver resource center, use an ignition interlock device for 3 months, and pay a total of $640 in fines. The other 2 citations were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.

@BlueStateside As a veteran trucker, I can see the consoles of most four wheelers. The amount of open beers, drug paraphernalia, and unmentionable acts is staggering. But the worst, people so involved with their phone that driving is secondary.

NJ used to have the most cops per Capita. They've been surpassed by Hawaii, but they still have a ton of them. Policing for profit is huge over there. Even the local guys have head on radar. They have delayed red enforcement. In most states if you enter the intersection before a traffic light turns red, you are good, but in NJ you must completely pass through the intersection before the light turns red. Also, DWI is considered a traffic violation in NJ, which means they can not get a jury trial. I'm sure this is just the tip of the iceberg, but I moved out of that horrible state long ago.

I used to drive after having a cocktail. I made sure all of my documents were in place and easily at reach.

I’m pretty sure the DUI’s that say “I’m not going to lie” and then try and admit some guilt “I was like trying to pick up my phone” or “I was texting officer I’m not going to lie” at the time of the accident leads them to believe that the officers will suddenly rule out their suspicions of DUI because the person only dropped their phone & they were honest about it so why would they lie about anything else 😂😂. They think that making up a reason for the accident that wasn’t alcohol involved but something illegal still such as texting whilst driving (a lot more minor than a DUI) will trick the officers because they were so honest 😂

Sigh ... no license suspension? And only a simple 3 months' penalty of interlock which is B.S. as she can drive another vehicle. Only $640 in fines. Surely a BAC of .20 deserves a license revocation, it's almost 3X the limit. Here in Canada, the roadside breathalyzer is expected. Also, for any Americans previously convicted of DUI and hoping to visit your northern friends, you can't cross the Canadian border for 10 years after your arrest.

I keep my registration and a copy of my insurance in a ziplock bag in the glove compartment. I figured if I ever get pulled over, all I would need to pull out is the plastic bag. These people who have volumes of paperwork in their car really gets to me.
Very sweet/cooperative young lady. Im happy that no one was injured. Hopefully, the young lady understands that this is not the end of the world, but most importantly that driving while impaired should stop here.
