I’m an amateur mechanic and I cannot wait till I learn more about cars and most importantly, get my own car! Your videos are awesome dude, keep on rocking.
Brake fluid is like $7/quart so I just flush it every 3 years or so...cheap and easy to do with no worries about water causing damage to the system. Some manufacturers do specify a change interval in the service manual so be aware of that too if your car is still under warranty!
That is true Chris, however the purpose of this video is to help the people who can't change their own fluid and are not sure if they are being lied to about it.
Thanks Pete I as always appreciate your help and advice . You are appreciated 👍 Oh I finally got around to doing that 350 engine with the Sum - 1103 cam in it I wouldn't have never been able to do it without your help and advice with the videos.. I feel amazing knowing that after 55 year's of age I'm no longer the cowardly 🦁 when it comes to engine's. You have empowered me so much you wouldn't believe. Blessings and more Blessings to you and your Family 🤗👌
Awesome product and quick video. What is the alternative of knowing early enough for those who live in countries where these brake-fluid testing kits are not available?
You forgot the URL in the description. BrakeBleeder.com Timely for me. I am waiting for parts to trickle in from Amazon, Rock Auto, and Inline Tube to do the rear brakes on my 1996 Jeep XJ. I am pretty bad about not changing the fluid unless something else is getting replaced, like a cylinder or caliper. Just "discovered" speed bleeders and will be installing those to make bleeding and replacing brake fluid easier. Test strips are something to keep in mind for the periodic fluid checks. Have a pH meter now for coolant, along with bulb hydrometer too.
Hey quick question Pete, how long would you warm your engine, at summer and winter temperatures, I’ve read conflicting reports on it, some say just drive lightly, others say it’s best to wait a minute or two before driving, or a combination of both?
Great video Pete, that's my first 60 second tip and I think that is a good idea, I'll check for others, thank you. Once I went for an oil change at one of the chain location places, the guy put an electronic brake fluid checker in my reservoir and it has green, yellow, red lights. Of course mine comes up red, he says I need new brake fluid. I told him that "I JUST CHANGED THE BRAKE FLUID YESTERDAY!" So I didn't get it changed by them of course. The thing is I used to trust these guys, and I don't think the guy himself was knowingly ripping people off. Is it possible that the fluid I used was bad? Or, that the electronic tester is a bad device?
I'm still working on making more. Those electronic testers are checking for water. It could easily be set up to always be red. If you put in new fluid I highly doubt it was bad.
@@PetesGarage How about those pens with the two prongs you dip in the brake fluid and get a lighted indicator of the % moisture? Are they reliable or a gimmick?
Nice videos... I learned so much from them. Have a question though.. I have a 2004 Model Ford Ranger pickup with WL engine and upon a cold start, I get white smoke coming out of exhaust and a rough idle that lasts for 30 seconds. After that it works perfectly whole day. This has been happening for 3 weeks now. I haven't had to add water to the radiator and changed primer pump, fuel filter, glow plugs and serviced injectors but problem still exist. Do you think there could be a problem with the fuel pump? Any advice you can offer? Thanks Pete.
Thanks for your reply... Appreciate it. The funny thing though, is that I started it this morning and observed not a trace of smoke neither the rough idle. Started perfectly. So I'm wondering if it could have been water in the diesel. Yesterday I had burned out the tank to almost empty and filled up. What are your thoughts on this?

Yes agree, only gets expensive if a shop has to do it

Thanks for the tip Pete! I've always wondered how you tell when the brake fluid needs to be changed.
Thanks Todd, the answer is usually never
Thanks Pete I as always appreciate your help and advice .

Cool, very good tip, I didn’t know this and was about to flush the whole system because the “looks dirty”!
Looking dirty does not mean bad, but it would help to know why it's getting dirty
Awesome product and quick video. What is the alternative of knowing early enough for those who live in countries where these brake-fluid testing kits are not available?
Great question. The alternative is to just change it if you see a rust color of the pedal gets soft from moisture in the fluid
@@PetesGarage, thanks for looking out for everyone.
Hey, Pete. Thanks for the tip. I really never thought about it before.👍👍
Thanks Andy
Love videos like this!! Keep me coming thank you!

This was 3 years ago. Looking for this at the webside
I'll have to fix that
Always a gem Pete, thank you sir.

Hey quick question Pete, how long would you warm your engine, at summer and winter temperatures, I’ve read conflicting reports on it, some say just drive lightly, others say it’s best to wait a minute or two before driving, or a combination of both?
Well, I have not seen any scientific studies, but if you drive lightly for the first few minutes, 30 seconds is enough
5 years... wow. My pickup truck's brake fluid seems to favor two year changeouts.
That's pretty frequent
Hey Pete I like your vids...just subbed

Is there a reliable and easy test for moisture in the brake fluid?
There are ways to do it, but it's not easy

They are reliable

Could be a leaking injector

That's a definite possibility
Thanks Pete... Continue your informative videos..
what about good old H2O
You will see water separate from the fluid
Is that a sunbeam behind you?
Might be, got rid of it awhile ago
I change it annually every spring.
That's too much
If you feel like you have to I see no problem in that, but you could go a few years
Thats a great tip for us do it your guys
I'm going to do a bunch of 60 second tips
Great advice.
Thanks my friend
So it doesn't need to be yellow?
Not necessarily
i never change mine and i drive many vehicles, motorcycles, trucks, cars... it goes without saying -i never had any problems with brake (oil)...
btw i also avoid riding in rain, as much as possible, cause water is the enemy not only for brake fluid but for everything around your vehicle
I've never changed it either
Awesome like Ph paper
Very similar
Thank u pete.
You are very welcome
Please! Can you please show how to change the brake fluid on a Renault Zoe Thanks! from Tommy Bertilsson From Sweden

Thank you awesome
