Stone By Stone was originally composed by Donovan for the 1972 movie Brother Sun, Sister Moon.
The movie is a dramatization of the events in the life of St. Francis of Assisi - from before his conversion experience up to his audience with the Pope - and including his friendship with St. Clare of Assisi.

Thank you for posting this refreshing, inspiring song, so beautifully sung! If anyone who reads this feels so moved, I would very much appreciate it if you would please say a prayer for me, that I might slow down and live more in touch with the Spirit of Jesus in the midst of my busy life. He forgives me all the time for rushing around too much. We have an amazing friendship, but I need to slow down. I'd like to do better - to be a better friend to Jesus and to His precious will for us to build, with His help, a world of peace, justice and compassion. Thank you.

I hope you've found our Lord in the last year, Robert. It's not always about what you feel inside (even though that's beautiful and tender) - Jesus was a sensitive man during his years on earth - but if you put all of your will at His disposal, if you long for Him and make him welcome, He'll come to you for sure - he promised he would and he is always faithful to his word. And you wont be a Christian like anyone else, you'll be a Christian because you're like Christ! St Francis' example of taking it one small step at a time is Gods gift to the world - to each one of us who cares to listen, or look up and out. God bless you and keep you Robert, dear brother.

This is one of my favourites films.....I feel that it really captures the spirit of St.Francis.
The rendition of this song is done beautifully.....I'm sure Donovan would agree.
I was drawn to the Franciscan seminary as a young college student - love his philosophy. Was sadly disappointed by the reality I confronted. Discovered so much hypocrisy! When I challenged anything, I was labelled a troublemaker, and they were as glad to see the last of me as I was of them! And that's not to mention sex scandals! Hey, I'm gay myself, have nothing against homosexuality. But when you're supposed to be practicing celibacy, it doesn't matter the sex of your partner!
