  • John Lovell is a former Army Ranger turned creator, homesteader and best-selling author. Lovell is the founder of the Warrior Poet Society, a values-based community geared towards training, preparedness, and spirituality.
Part three of this four part series is all about the closing of Lovell's career as an Army Ranger and his transition into civilian life. Lovell outlines his early days in business and the beginning of his marriage and how to build a strong foundation in a relationship. We also learn about the origins of the "Warrior Poet Society," Lovell's now ultra-successful online community.

This week, my husband has come home from work everyday with one earbud in. First thing after the greeting is a smile and, “Have you listened to Lovell yet?” He knows I’m a big fan! We are both keeping up this week and loving it!
Also, weighing in as a female, what John said about the ideas of feminism are spot on. That was a stumbling block in my marriage, too (also now in the 17th year). I was blind to it. Praise God my husband and I came to Jesus in the 5th year, or we wouldn’t have made it! Jesus really is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

A bunch of people were mad at me and said things like you should've stayed home with your family and your mom etc.etc. and my inly response was my father would kickass my ass if i skipped worked because i have a family to take care of....

In no way am I perfect, and don't misunderstand the assertion I made about my situation as helpless whining. There is something to be said for being confident in the choice made with whom you will make a family. No point in making what is inevitably a challenge even more difficult!

2nd Batt guy here. About same time frame as Lovell, different company. Love both yall brothers and all the content and work you do.
I love how you talked about marriage, loss and healing. Had very similar struggles and ended up traveling the same road to God, but not till after OIF1. But after getting out and trying to figure out how not to be a brash callous natured warrior to humble, loving serving husband took very intentional devotion and work. I had to learn to use my strengths to build up people weaker than me than to use my strengths to tear people down. I believe since we are all born into sin the default is we are aligned to be critical in our language, tone and approach. Especially A-types. We have to learn, practice and teach to not do what is natural and easy. But since I over came those obstacles, with help from other great men before me, i have 12 year marriage and still growing with 2 great boys with a 3rd one in the making. I have a family of my own. Would have never had any of that if I never changed who I was before.

I can appreciate the wisdom and sentiment in that perspective.
I'm also on a mission, in general, to expose the fact that we have been bathed in false dichotomies, as a way to keep us fighting each other. The reductive thinking that literally slows down our abilities to critically think makes us so much more vulnerable to gaslighting/hypnotic group-think, which creates a "Crabs in a bucket" mentality, that causes parrots and whips in the public to keep each other in line, and, as we can see more and more, algorithmically generated ideological bubbles that make it even more difficult to be exposed to what the "other public" is exposed to. The result is divide and conquer.
The MSM takes dictation from the government officials who give them prized access, as well as the embedded "State Department" employees who were given an explicit "legal" green light to use propaganda domestically) and top down (owners and board members of giant media and social media conglomerates who created an organization called the Trusted News Initiative (TNI).
I know this sounds a little convoluted, but all we need to do is look at the example of D vs R/L vs R/Blue vs Red, which are all false choices between Individualism and Collectivism, which are interdependent, not mutually exclusive.
The Preamble has The Commons and The Bill of Rights protects individual freedoms. The Constitution correctly points out that we can't have one without the other. We can't imagine experiencing the individual freedoms, while also imagining a privatized Justice System (this has actually been happening, with private, for profit prisons and contracts with minimum occupancy clauses. There have already been multiple judges caught getting kickbacks for handing out extra harsh sentences - even for minors.)
It's my understanding that our job is to balance these ideas, as our society develops. It's eternal vigilance in an emergent context.
We also definitely need to clean our own house first, concerning the government, because the pirates and profiteers who hijacked and captured our government/public institutions and agencies made sure that we blame "the government", even though it is our best tool with which we can resist tyranny.
As we know from "the gun debate", another false dichotomy, tools don't kill people. The same goes for Government, when we realize it's a tool.
Ok, sorry this was long. Maybe there is a dichotomy between Jesus and the rest of us. But, maybe he was trying to tell us there isn't.
I see authoritarianism in more and more places and at deeper and deeper levels of our society. I see false choices and divide and conquer as the main mechanism, and fear as the main driver.
Original Sin is at the heart of pretty much every societal sickness. The pirates have adopted this strategy, because it's impossible to argue against.
Thanks for your consideration and any feedback. 🙏

    • @yahusrevus
      @yahusrevus 9 місяців тому +1

The term "PsyOp" comes to mind. "Politics" anymore is basically studio wrestling. For those of us who remember Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant, for example, the fight was always hyped in such a manner as to make fans choose a side and it always sounded epic in scope. However, shortly after the (fake) match(es), those two would be in a limousine on their way to a steak dinner together at the nicest restaurant in town. Americans, in particular, definitely seem to be being "herded" in much the same way by people who claim to hate each other publicly while being chummy behind closed doors. (Even the fact that some folks are realizing this and withdrawing is a "win" in terms of impacting behavior.)
This actually makes me see faith in Christ all the more important. I still vote, for example, because God knows... not because of anything to do with the "sides" involved. If one candidate supports the infanticide known as abortion, for example, it's quite clear where God stands on the issue and thus where I must stand. What's going on in the world actually has no bearing. God is the same today as He was yesterday and will be the same tomorrow as well. As long as He is always one's focus, the rest simply fades no matter how overtly obnoxious some try to make it. Take heart and have a great day.

As a civilian, the chapter on reintegrating into civilian life really resonated with me. I had a brutal childhood. I grew up in the slums of chicago. I had a really bad tbi, I have many broken bones, I have auditory triggers from traumatic events in childhood. I was homeless for one year in chicago trying to survive the brutal winter in 2017 and then trying to survive the gangs and tweaker on the street in the summer. I finally made it out and managed to get an apartment in denver. I thought I was mentally okay but I ended up in a toxic relationship with a bad person at 21 and I had my daughter with this person. She has now been arrested for physical abuse to our daughter. I'm now a single dad in colorado just me and my daughter at 25 and it's just very hard to put that past behind me and it's even harder to meet people I resonate with to build a new brother hood. Growing up in chicago in the harsh way I did makes me carry myself differently and I can be very harsh like a sledge hammer. I resonate with service members more than anyone else because I don't know anyone else who has lived through hell they way I have. Thank you John and Shawn for sharing this.

I rarely comment on shows BUT this one is a superb episode and indeed series. A long time ago I too was a Ranger qualified squad leader in the Infantry and was and am a devout Christian who loves the Lord. This brought back a ton of memories- I heard leadership lessons and rules I had implemented in my own squad. I cringed at hearing John’s lack of social awareness after being a meat eater because I still suffer from this “malady!” I too started marriage in the same way. Thank you John and Shawn! Keep speaking the truth, exposing the rot, and most importantly loving Jesus!🙌🏻🙏💪🏻#coramdeo #RLTW 12-92

My Ranger Drill Srgt. That is why we respect and loved him so much. We knew if we messed up. It was like hey guys your are getting rusty and need a little coat of oil.
So if he was down doing push ups with us, it was because thats what we do, now when he would smoke us he would just speak calmly and let us know we let him down. That hit us all in the heart, just to know we let him down. All the other DS's would scream and stuff. Not him he would just talk.

I just want both of you guy’s too know how much you both have influenced guy’s like myself and others. In an EXTREMELY positive way. I myself was in a very dark place, survivors guilt and large amounts of anger were a daily struggle for me…but after listening to John speak about faith and being a better father and husband, and Sean telling his stories about how his psychedelic journey helped him pushed me into doing the same thing. And it has changed my, and my family’s lives in such a profound way that I can’t believe the changes over the last two years. You both are saints and I just wanted to say thank you both for helping people like myself without even meeting in person. Both of you are a godsend to a lot of us. There is no way I could ever repay the advice and positivity that you both bring to a lot of us. Thank you both 🫡
